There are some long-anticipated fi lms to shout about in this edition, starting with the fi fth instalment of the thrilling Bourne series starring Matt Damon as – you know his name – Jason Bourne.

Based on the novel by Roald Dahl and directed by Steven Spielberg, The BFG is a big friendly giant of a fi lm with a superbly distinctive performance from Mark Rylance.

Ellen DeGeneres excels in Pixar's Finding Nemo sequel, Finding Dory, providing the voice of Dory, a wide-eyed, blue tank fi sh who suffers from memory loss every 10 seconds or so. The one thing she can remember is that she somehow became separated from her parents as a child, so with help from her friends Nemo and Marlin, she embarks on an epic adventure to fi nd them.

At the time of going to print, we await confi rmation of the screening of Ghostbusters or The Legend Of Tarzan – both fi lms are promising great entertainment so keep an eye on our website for booking information.

Our Discover Cinema strand has some great titles to tempt you, including Bayou Maharajah, a feature-length documentary

on the legendary pianist James Booker; thriller The Neon Demon; and The Stanford Prison Experiment.

We have a very full Screen Arts programme including Almeida Live: Richard III; Andre Rieu’s 2016 Maastricht Concert; Branagh Theatre Encore: Romeo And Juliet; and David Bowie is, an Encore of the fascinating fi lm of the fastest-selling exhibition in the Victoria & Albert Museum’s history, featuring a remarkable collection of handwritten lyrics, original costumes, photography, fi lm and set designs – all from the David Bowie Archive.

There's an exciting summer drinks menu available at No.4 Restaurant & Bar including some delicious cocktails for you to enjoy at great prices. Thanks to Vinyl Hunter in St John's Street, we're thrilled to announce that not only will any ticket to our Cult Film Club fi lms entitle you to a free pint of Old Cannon Bitter from our bar, it will also get you a FREE coffee at Vinyl Hunter – just keep your ticket to redeem.

We look forward to giving you a warm welcome over the coming weeks.

In the face of a media firestorm after an attempt to schmooze Kate Moss goes spectacularly awry, PR agent Eddy and magazine editor Patsy escape to their spiritual home – the French Riviera. Directors: Chris Renaud, Yarrow Cheney. Starring: Louis C. K., Kevin Hart, Lake Bell. USA 2016. 91 mins.

For anyone wondering how their pets behave when they’re not at home, The Secret Life Of Pets reveals their antics. Wily terrier Max (Louis C. K.) loses his preferred pooch status when his owner acquires a large, sloppy mongrel named Duke (Eric Stonestreet). The pair meet a posse of abandoned pets led by a deceptively lovable rabbit (Hart). Their adventures radiate an acid wit in this hilarious and charming animation.

From 8 Jul

The Legend Of Tarzan (12A)

Director: David Yates. Starring: Alexander Skarsgård, Margot Robbie, Christoph Waltz. USA 2016. 110 mins.

Harry Potter director David Yates brings breathtaking digital enrichments to the King Of The Jungle’s adventures, and with his rippling torso and steely determination, Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood) adds undeniable magnetism as our eponymous hero. Raised by apes after his parents’ deaths in the African bush, John Clayton eventually returned as the third Viscount of Greystoke to his London home, where he married his Jane (Robbie, The Wolf Of Wall Street). He is unable to resist the call of the jungle when the British government offers him the post of Congolese trade envoy – but he is unaware that a devious Belgian Army captain (Waltz, SPECTRE) is manipulating him as part of a self-serving murderous plot. Of course, though, since he is Tarzan, the forces of evil meet considerable resistance in this rumbustiously enjoyable action drama.

Contains moderate action violence, threat and injury detail.

At the centre of the tale is Sophie (Ruby Barnhill), a characterful and curious young girl living in a London orphanage. One night, she is whisked off to a land of giants, where the BFG (Rylance) teaches her about dreams and protects her from the Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and the Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement).

Ghostbusters (Cert TBC)

Director: Paul Feig. Starring: Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones. USA 2016. TBC mins.

The reboot of 1984’s mega cult comedy Ghostbusters sets itself a very high bar, but starring Bridesmaids’ Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy – with their regular director Paul Feig at the helm – it’s clearly destined for success. The all-female Ghostbusters team is headed by authors Abby (McCarthy) and Erin (Wiig), who were laughed out of academia after publishing a book claiming that ghosts really do exist. They are proved right when evil apparitions appear across New York City. The pair must join forces with aspiring paranormal investigators Patty (Leslie Jones) and Jillian (McKinnon) to save the world from the phantoms as well as a powerful demon known as Rowan. Patty provides the pimped-up Cadillac hearse essential to their task. The team are determined to deal with this outbreak of strange spectres, and we can revel in the riotous consequences.

Accompanied by her friends Nemo (Rolence) and Marlin (Brooks), she swims to California’s Monterey Marine Life Institute, where she meets bolshie octopus Hank (Ed O’Neill), beluga whale Bailey (Ty Burrell) and whale shark Destiny (Kaitlin Olson), who agree to help her in her quest. With Finding Nemo writer-director Andrew Stanton also returning along with his Wall-E and Toy Story colleague Angus MacLane as co-director, this magical, beautifully rendered tale of rediscovery also affirms the importance of family.

Pete's Dragon (Cert TBC)

Director: David Lowery. Starring: Bryce Dallas Howard, Robert Redford, Oakes Fegley. USA 2016. TBC mins.

This live-action remake of Disney’s animated 1977 fable begins with cheery old woodsman Mr Meacham (Redford) delighting local children with stories of a dragon that lives deep in the forest. His sceptical forest-ranger daughter Grace (Howard, Jurassic World) dismisses this as whimsy until she meets the eponymous 10-year-old Pete (Fegley), an orphan who claims his best friend is a green dragon called Elliott. With the help of another local youngster, Natalie (Oona Laurence), Grace then sets out to determine the truth and ultimately spare Elliott from capture and exploitation by Natalie’s money-grubbing uncle Gavin (Karl Urban). Co-written and directed by Ain’t Them Bodies Saints’ David Lowery, this is a skilful and beguilingly suspenseful tale appealing to audiences of all ages.

Wed 13 Jul, 20.00 DOCUMENTARY

Bayou Maharajah (Cert TBC)Director: Lily Keber. USA 2013. TBC mins.

Described by the legendary Dr John as "the best black, gay, one-eyed junkie piano genius New Orleans has ever produced," James Booker remained a somewhat overlooked musical genius until his untimely death at just 43 years old. Booker’s flamboyant singing and playing style embraced everything from blues and R ’n’ B to jazz and classical. He battled addiction to alcohol and drugs, which ultimately undid him. Admirers including Harry Connick Jnr and Allen Toussaint offer fond memories.

Tue 19 Jul, 18.00

Akenfield (12A)Director: Peter Hall. UK 1974. 98 mins.

This innovative and powerful film has become a piece of East Anglian history. In 1974, the people of a Suffolk village acted out the stories of their lives and the lives of their parents and grandparents. Though the film was inspired by Ronald Blythe’s classic book, the cast invented their own dialogue. The action centres on the funeral of long-term resident Old Tom, and travels through the past, present and future of the rural community.

Contains moderate sex.

Tue 26 Jul, 20.30

The Stanford Prison Experiment (15)Director: Kyle Patrick Alvarez. Starring: Ezra Miller, Tye Sheridan, Billy Crudup. USA 2015. 122 mins.

In 1971 Professor Philip Zimbardo persuaded 24 students to participate in an extended role play as inmates and warders as part of his research on prison psychology. Based on Zimbardo’s own subsequent account, Kyle Patrick Alvarez’s dramatic recreation charts the rapid deterioration of human morality as abuse, rebellion and social disintegration lead to the increasingly dangerous experiment’s premature ending. Shocking, riveting filmmaking.

Mon 8 Aug, 18.00 DOCUMENTARY

Weiner (15)Directors: Josh Kriegman, Elyse Steinberg. USA 2016. 96 mins.

Anthony Weiner was a US congressman who resigned following a sex scandal. While he was attempting a comeback by running for New York mayor in 2013, it was revealed that he was still texting photos of his private parts to women he did not know. Documentarians Steinberg and Kriegman were already filming the handsome, charismatic and otherwise savvy Weiner’s apparent political rebirth when this new hell broke loose, and carried on doing so – with jaw-dropping consequences.

The Neon Demon (18)Director: Nicolas Winding Refn. Starring: Elle Fanning, Keanu Reeves, Christina Hendricks. France/USA/Denmark 2016. 117 mins.

Elle Fanning (Maleficent, Ginger & Rosa) plays Jesse, an ingénue in the cut-throat world of fashion, who takes up a modelling career in a shimmeringly vibrant Los Angeles. There she’s preyed upon by a group of envious fashionistas who would leech off her beauty and burgeoning success. Startlingly different from writer-director Nicolas Winding Refn’s (Drive, Only God Forgives) previous work, The Neon Demon is a shock-filled horror-thriller.

Tue 16 Aug, 20.00

Solaris (12A)Director: Andrei Tarkovsky. USSR 1972. 167 mins. Russian with English subtitles.

Adapted from Stanislaw Lem’s sci-fi novel, Solaris is a meditation on yearning and memory, and on the self-imposed barriers that keep us from realising our greatest desires.

Contains moderate injury detail and suicide references.
