1. Introduction: The European TOUCH Championships take place every two years in different countries (previous tournaments were held in Jersey, England, Wales and Scotland). National teams of countries affiliated to the Federation of International gather to develop their skills and promote this unique sport. These European Championships are also an ideal platform for the promotion of “the European citizen”.

2. The TOUCH, universal sport TOUCH (or TOUCH Rugby or TOUCH Football) is an amateur sport which supports fraternal exchanges. TOUCH started 40 years ago in Australia. It is a sport derived from Rugby codes but excludes any form of contact except the "TOUCH" which is made with minimum force necessary. It can be played for fun or as a competitive sport, on grass, sand, a park or even indoors. The simplicity of play allows beginners to participate with ease. All a player needs is a T-shirt, trainers and an oval ball… A TOUCH team can consist of a group of friends, work colleagues and even members of the same family. Thus women and men can participate together on the same field – it is a truly mixed and inclusive sport. The TOUCH Spirit is based on enjoyment, friendship and an equal playing field for women and men. Through its rules, TOUCH is the sport best aligned to the concept and ideals of European citizenship: based on co-education, it contributes completely to integration, to the exercise of solidarity and to team spirit. It encourages collective engagement, fair play, and respect of and for others.

3. Objectives of the European TOUCH Championships 2008: In 2008, the tournament’s objectives are:

• To give a true European dimension to this sporting event in order to encourage as many European countries to take part in future tournaments.

• To reinforce the concept of European membership by developing the social utility of sport though the sport of TOUCH.

• To give honour to Europe.

• To promote European citizenship to the public.

• To prepare European nations for the next TOUCH World Cup which will be held in Edinburgh (Scotland) in 2011.

4. Venue and dates: The Tournament will be held from 10th to 13th July, 2008 in a suburb of Paris, at the Parc des Sports of Massy (Essonne).

See map below for the general location of the grounds.

In parallel with the sporting event, an exhibition titled "Europe" will be open to the public and will be posted on panels laid out under a stand installed close to the grounds. The exhibition will trace the evolution of Europe from its birth to today. The support of the EC will make it possible to develop this event and increase the likelihood of media coverage throughout Europe. Officials from the international governing body of Touch, the Federation of International Touch (“FIT”) will be in attendance to oversee the competition, thus ensuring that the highest international standards are met.

7. Partners involved in organising the event: TOUCH associations

The participation of European and international associations ensures that the European Touch Championships will meet the highest international standards. TOUCH France as the host nation and TOUCH Essonne (TR91) in particular are organising the tournament with help from the European TOUCH committee. TOUCH in France: The French Federation of TOUCH was born in 2001. Its purpose is to encourage and develop the practice of TOUCH in accordance with the rules and regulations set down by the Federation of International TOUCH (F.I.T.) TOUCH France is a member of the F.I.T. and actively involved in the programs of the FIT European Regional Development Committee. It is also an affiliated member of the French Federation of Sport in Companies (FFSE). TOUCH France has already participated in the previous three European Touch Championships and in the TOUCH World Cup 2007 in South Africa.

Europe en Sport: "Europe in Sport" promotes European citizenship through sport by sponsoring European teams invited to international sports events. This association promotes TOUCH all year round for its values and is willing to participate in the Euros 2008 project by helping the Host nation through an exhibition of Europe as well as by sponsoring a team “EUROPE”.
