DOWNTOWN COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURIwww.downtownkc.org
Thousands of visitors are expected to experience the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts for the first time at a free public grand opening from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18th. Doors will open at 11:00 a.m. Performances in the Muriel Kauffman Theatre, Helzberg Hall and four outdoor stages will run from 12:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Here are FIVE insider tips to ease your journey to the Kauffman Center:
1. Don’t follow the crowd. Be creative when selecting your highway exit. Traffic will be heaviest at the I-35 exit onto Broadway. Consider your options, such as the West Pennway exit and driving to less congested, offsite parking and shuttles. 2. Think ahead. Free parking will be available in the new 1,000 space Kauffman Center garage, but traffic will be heaviest as you get closer to the performing arts center.
3. Make a plan. More than 15,000 parking spaces are shown on this map. Review the parking and trolley map and pick a parking/shuttle area in the Convention Center area, the Crossroads Arts District or the Power & Light District.
4. Free event shuttles will run from 10:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Stops include: Convention Center: 12th & Wyandotte (in front of the Marriott Hotel) Crossroads: 19th & Baltimore and 20th & Central Power & Light District: 14th & Main Kauffman Center: 16th between Wyandotte & Central
5. The MAX Bus will run to the Kauffman Center every 15 minutes from 10:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. See www.kcata.org for MAX stops. Fee: $1.50 each way. Welcome to Downtown Kansas City, America’s Creative Crossroads
