Four years ago I walked into Sues office having never met her, looking for a preceptor for my MSN program; I walked out knowing that Sue would be my lifelong mentor. She mentored me through both my MSN and DNP programs. Sue has challenged, supported, and educated me; transforming me into a more confident person both professionally and personally. She has picked me up when I was down and taught me that mistakes are just lessons to be learned from. I honestly do not know if I would be where I am now without Sues guidance, and I will be forever grateful that she accepted me as her mentee.

Kathleen hired me as a GN to the cardiac floor, R3. Throughout my career at CVPH as an RN Kathleen has been a role model. She has modeled the way for communication through the years with newsletters to staff in all her units. "The Heart of the Matter" was a weekly staff communication that included sharing upcoming practice changes and other discussions as well as kudos and feedback from patients and families. Staff from all areas looked forwardtoit being hot off the presson Fridays and inour mailboxes! In my opinion two of Kathleen's most inspiring attributes are passion and compassion. She has always taken a personal compassionateinterest in knowing her staff, colleagues, and patients. Shehas gone out of her way to take personal and sincere interest and through this those around her carry forward the same. If there is an idea or a change to be made and it is the right thing to do Kathleen's passion will shine through until complete! I would like to take this opportunity to place what I consider to be the best mentor in my 30 year nursing career up on the highest step of the clinical ladder of nurses. When I first started nursing at CVPH I was frightened and unsure of myself and my abilities. My mentor Susan O'Connell provided me with all I needed to demonstrate professionalism and quality care to my patients. She taught me critical thinking skills, job responsibility, accountability, time management and a genuine sense of caring to my patients through her demonstrations. For this I am most grateful as I try to establish all these qualities in the nurses that I mentor.
