CARROT Standard Teaching Guideline

For Productive Class Teacher Responsibilities

Any changes in classes must be clearly communicated to both students and manager. Should be equipped with reliability, punctuality, sincerity, and friendliness as they are the key to success in tutoring via the phone or video. Maintain the CTM schedule to provide complete and timely educational services for students. Conduct yourself in a professional manner in conversation and all other forms of communication. Keep all students’ information confidential. Communicate and collaborate effectively with manager and HQ verbally and in writing. Complete and submit all required work and students’ evaluations accurately and in a timely manner. Attend required staff or tutor meetings and actively participate in additional professional development opportunities.

1.Speaking: The tutor ensures that the students

speak the most.

2.Correction: The tutor provides constructive

feedback and correction for the student. This is done

verbally and in written form. 3 per class.

3.Homework: The tutor gives homework after each

class for self-study practice. Students might not do it

though. Don’t overly pressure them.

4.Attitude: It is very important that the tutor creates

a positive learning environment for the student. The

tutor should provide the student with a lot of

encouragement and praise.

CARROT Standard Teaching Guideline

For new students with CARROT

•They have never done class with CARROT before.

•Tutor can notice that from tutor memo and feedback history sections as they are all blank.

•Do a brief introduction with each other, but keep it short for 1~2 mins only.

•It is recommended to start textbook right after introduction so students feel that they learned something from the first class.

•If students are not prepared for class, tutor can give an overview of the course and ask some questions from the textbook(even if

student doesn’t have it)

For transferred, returning, or makeup students

•They are currently studying with other tutors or have done class with CARROT before.

•Do not ask them to do self-introduction again even if that is your first class with them.

•Most students do not want to do self-introduction as their tutors can change on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.

•Do a short greeting and start the book straightaway.

[First class policy]

1. Warm Up

• Do short greeting and small talk.

• Ask your student if they remember any new

expressions from last class by giving a hint.

→ Review is not recommended for a 10

minute class as the class length is very short.

2. Main Class

• Introduce today’s lesson title/topic.

• Start textbook and help students understand

new expressions and ask them to make their

own sentences to give them chances to speak

and practice.

• Suggest topic or use Daily topic for phone

students who do not have textbook or those

who prefer free talking for that day.

• Make at least 3 verbal corrections.

• Make your student repeat after you.

→ This is more recommended for junior and

beginner students.

3. Wrap Up

• Quick Feedback: Pick 1~2 critical error(s) or

important expression(s) from your student’s

English speaking and give overall feedback

about the appropriate language usage

• Ask your student if they have any questions

about today’s lesson.

• Ask your student to review correction

feedback and prepare for next lesson.

• Say goodbye and end the lesson.

[Class structure for 10 minute class]

1 minute 8 minutes 1 minute

Keep warm up and wrap up short(max.1 minute)and focus on main class for 10-15 minute class. You can spend more time on warm up and wrap up for longer classes(20,30 minute or longer) Build rapport with your students by asking questions and showing empathy. Start wrapping up when 1 minute is left so you won’t end class abruptly.
