RRCPRBRRCPRB (FAM ID = 4FD) offers signalling connections towards the UE and call control functionality. It is divided into hand groups: RRC-S, RRC-C, MCC, RRC-D.

•RRC-S = RRC-System = HG1•Handles system information scheduling, segment. and broadcasting•1 hand per WBTS•32 hands per ICSU• Hands 1-20 (hex)

•RRC-C = RRC-Common = HG2•Handles the common RACH/FACH signaling procedures towards the UE when there is no RRC connection•1 hand per WCEL•288 hands per ICSU•Hands 21-140 (hex)

RRCPRB - MCC

• MCC = MS Connection Control = HG3• Controls the connection between the UE, RNC, and CN• Requests the capacity from BRM • Produces the RLC parameters needed for radio bearer services and

composes the transport channel parameters • Controls the packet data transfer states according to inactivity/activity

indications from MAC-layer• 1 hand per UE• In RN2.1: 4096 hands per ICSU

• Hands 141-1140 (hex)• In RN2.2: 8192 hands per ICSU

RRCPRB – RRC -D

• RRC-D = RRC Dedicated = HG4• Handles the dedicated signaling procedures when the UE has RRC

connection i.e. it sends/receives messages to/from the UE using Signalling Radio Bearer services of RLC

• 1 hand per UE• In RN2.1: 4096 hands per ICSU

• Hands 1141-2140 (hex)• In RN2.2: 8192 hands per ICSU

RRC Lifetime macro• This macro can be used to check, whether there are hanging RRC hands in the system,

or to approximate the amount of concurrent calls in the system.

1. Edit configuration of the macro• #define DEVICE_NAME "RNC2" // enter your HIT device name here• string path = "C:\\users\\"; // the results will be stored in this directory

2. Run the macro3. Analyse the results

• Both the HIT messages window and the above given path will now contain a list of currenly running RRCPRC’s MCC and RRC-D hands in each ICSU

• There is also information how long the hands have been running (in minutes)• If you can find for example a pair of MCC and RRC-D that have been running for 10000 minutes,

it is pretty sure that they are hanging• If success rate for certain ICSU (or some / all of them) is poor, it might be so that RRC hands are

hanging there• Restarting the ICSU will solve the situation• Try to collect RRC monitorings and ICSU computer logs before restarting if there is time• The amount of active RRC-D and MCC hands per ICSU is a snapshot of the amount of concurrent

calls in the system - however only near exact as each ICSU snapshot is taken separately

HPLRRC• You can output RRC monitoring logs with HPL in order to detect failures

and exceptions• HPL extension is located in OMU• Benefit of HPL is that is does not cause any extra load to RNC • Each ICSU saves 5 MB of monitoring continously

BRMPRB - BTS Resource Manager• FAM ID = 4FB• Load Control, Admission Control, Packet Scheduler• Receives cell specific radio resource measurement reports from BTS. Based on

these reports BRMPRB is able to schedule the remaining radio resources for various kinds of radio access bearers of UE

• Radio resource scheduling function includes the power change estimation, admission decision and allocation of capacity, DL code and DL power for the RAB

• There is 1 BRMPRB hand for each BTS and it is created when the BTS is created• There are 30 BRMPRB hands per ICSU• Allocates and releases radio resources of the cell in radio link setup, modification

or release • Allocates the common channel spreading codes• Can be monitored with E2K service terminal extension
