It was a very successful evening. Nominations are now open for those interested in being on the Council. Nominations close Sunday 14 July. Nomination forms are available in the churches and from the Parish Office, and can be left at the Parish Office. Plenary Council Journey Each week throughout July, the National Facilitation Team for the Plenary Council is releasing a Snapshot Report for each of the 6 themes that resulted from the Listening and Dialogue phase. A comprehensive report on all the voices of participants will be released on July 28, 2019. During this time, we are invited to reflect on Scripture, Church teaching and our contemporary situation in order to discern the answer to: How is God calling us to be a Christ-centered Church? The six main themes that have been identified are, missionary and evangelising; Inclusive, participatory and synodal; Prayerful and Eucharistic; Humble, healing and merciful; A joyful, hope- filled and servant community; Open to conversion, renewal and reform. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday This Sunday is Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday, celebrated throughout the Catholic Church in Australia. There are over 120,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholics in Australia and they are an important part of the fabric of church life. Our schools have been celebrating this during the week, and St Joseph’s Primary was in the news– congratulations! The theme this year is, “Peace to this house and all who dwell within”. The Australian Bishops highlight that this theme reminds us that “in our busy lives, we are often bombarded with competing priorities, distractions, worries and concerns about ourselves and others, which can cause us to forget to take the time to stop, look around, reflect and look for our peace in our lives.” Copies of this year’s Pastoral Statement from the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference are available at the church entrances, or can be downloaded from http://www.natsicc.org.au/assets/natsicc-pastoral-letter-2019-web.pdf. Parish Pastoral Council Nominations

Thank you to all those who attended the

Pastoral Council Information Evening last

Tuesday 2 July. It was a very successful

evening. Nominations are now open for those

interested in being on the Council.

Nominations close Sunday 14 July.

Nomination forms are available in the

churches and from the Parish Office, and can

be left at the Parish Office.

Plenary Council Journey

BLESSING OF THE FLEET CEREMONY This Sunday 7th July, at 11am, the blessing of the fleet for the local Emergency personnel and vehicles will take place at All Saints Catholic Church Kempsey, followed by refreshments. All welcome! INSTALLATION OF THE RELIC OF

ST ALPHONSA Bishop Greg has kindly donated a relic of St Alphonsa, one of the patron saints of India, which will be placed in the Kempsey Church. He will lead special celebrations and will install the relic on Tuesday 23 July, 5.30pm, Kempsey Church, followed by supper provided by our local Indian Catholic community. The Mass will be celebrated in English, with some parts in Malayalam. All are welcome! A bus is available to transport parishioners from SWR and return. Pick up at 4.30pm. Please RSVP for catering purposes to the parish office by Friday 19 July.

PLANNED GIVING ENVELOPES Please commence utilising the new envelopes this weekend. Some parishioners will find that the envelope numbers have changed so it is very important that you now use the new envelopes. Tax receipts can be collected from the Parish Office from 10th July. Please call the office in advance so it can be ready for you. The option to contribute utilising Direct Debit has also commenced. If you would like to start please contact Todd at the Parish Office. Thank you for all your generous support!

CHURCH STALL FOR THE MISSIONS

A stall selling crocheted and knitted hats and beanies, jams, pickles and cooking by Clare Van der Veer will be held after the 9.30am Kempsey Mass on Sunday 21 July, 2019.

Proceeds will be donated to Catholic Mission Australia for drought support in remote NSW.

MEMORIAL MASS FOR COLETTE HAYES (NEE HASSETT)

A Memorial Mass for Colette will be held next Saturday 13 July, 10am, Kempsey Church, followed by refreshments in the Kempsey Church Hall. This will be a special opportunity for our parish family to celebrate and give thanks for Colette’s life, and to surround Pat, Col and all the Hassett family with our love and prayers.

PETER’S PENCE COLLECTION Next weekend, 13/14th July 2019, we join with other Parishes across the world in taking up the Peter’s Pence Collection. This provides for the charitable works and structures of mercy identified by Pope Francis. By supporting this collection, you join with other parishes across the world in supporting projects identified by the Pope including emergency assistance to those in need due to natural disaster, war, oppression and disease. Our generosity allows the Pope to respond to those suffering with love and compassion. Envelopes will be placed in the Church for this collection.

FAMILY GROUP FUNCTIONS

On Sunday July 7, 2019 (postponed from June 29), the Moore Family Group dine at the Kempsey Chinese Restaurant at 54 Smith Street in the upper

room at 7:30pm for a meal together. If you are able to come please contact Tony Corley (6562 4330) or Margaret Corley (mob 0429486942) to let them know that you intend to come. On Thursday, July 18, the Magennis Family Group will gather for lunch at the Smithtown Hotel -12noon for 12.30pm. Chinese dishes are available as well as other options on the menu. Cathy and Leo are organising the outing and ask that bookings be made by contacting them on 65621083 by Thursday, 11th April . Transport if required can be arranged by ringing Robyn and Doug on 6562 5245. New members are always welcome!

POSITIONS VACANT: PLENARY COUNCIL SUPPORT

As we move into the Listening and Discernment stage of our preparation for the Plenary Council 2020, the Bishops Commission for the Plenary Council is seeking both lay people and clergy who are willing to be leaders and partners in the process of discernment. Opportunities are available to apply to be the Chair, or to be a member, of one of six Discernment and Writing Groups. CATHOLIC MISSION COMPETITION Catholic Mission Australia are holding a song competition on the theme of the Extraordinary Month of Mission to be held in October 2019. The purpose of the competition is to engage children and young people of every Diocese in composing and ‘singing for mission’. Open to all school aged students up to the age of 19 years, to compose a song and submit it to the Lismore Diocesan Director for Mission by Friday, 26 July 2019. The chosen song for the Lismore Diocese will be forwarded to the National Office along with other entries from Australian Dioceses.
