  • Introduction If the world was a perfect place of peace, without racism, classism or warring nations. there would be no need for organizations that work to save the rainforests or feed hungry children or fight for equality and civil rights because such things as depleting the earth’s natural resources, greed, and poverty would not exist. The body is perfectly designed to ingest, digest, assimilate, and eliminate nutrients and their by-products very efficiently. A perfect self healing, self correcting organism.   • What to Expect For the next 7 days you will be eating nutrient dense fruits and vegetables, along with some nuts & seeds. As a general rule - fruits clean the body, while vegetables (especially leafy greens) heal the body. Together, they work perfectly to scrub toxic residue from the cells, support the immune system, and alkalize the body. Later you can add herbs to strengthen and tone and support the detoxification of specific organs and systems in your body. An alkaline body chemistry is necessary for the body to stay balanced and healthy. The problem is that we tend to indulge in mostly acid producing foods, which lead to disease and a breakdown in the immune system over time.

    You will have green smoothies and/or fruit for breakfast, a large salad for lunch, and another green smoothie or a blended soup for dinner. Green smoothies are an easy and tasty way to get both leafy greens and fresh fruit into your diet in an easily digestible way. If you prefer, the blended soups are a great replacement for the sweeter green smoothies at dinner.

    You will also be drinking a lot of water, so get the best quality water you can. Adding more water to your diet is one of the simplest ways to detoxify. If you only have access to tap water, make sure it is boiled and cooled before drinking.

    (Water is a universal solvent and does wonders in moving wastes out of the body. However, water does not have electrolytes - electrically charged minerals like sodium, calcium, potassium, magnesium - which provide hydration on a cellular level. Therefore water cannot replace raw fruit and vegetables that contain naturally occurring electrolytes.)

    None of these acid forming foods are allowed: No animal products (no eggs, dairy, or other animal protein) breads, baked deserts, candy, fast food, fried foods, caffeine, or sodas.

    One of the great things that will occur after completing the DYW 7 Day Detox is a tremendous sense of accomplishment. It isn't easy to stop all you know (or at least what you know you love to eat) and drink green smoothies, eat salads without meat, and sip blended soups. So fully expect to pat yourself on the back at the end of Day 7. But your ultimate benefit is how you will look and feel. You should expect to experience most, if not all, of these wonderful things:

  • • clearer skin • improved bowel movements • more positive attitude • higher self-confidence • deeper sleep • weight loss

    It will be best if you refrain from heavy exercise (weight lifting, competitive races, long runs, bike rides or any other activity that leads to over-exertion and significantly increases your heart rate). Walking, non-heated yoga, easy swimming or biking recreationally for short distances, and of course sun bathing (for Vitamin D and an immune boost) should be the limit of your exercise. During the Detox your body will be using all of its available energy for clearing out waste from your body, so you must reserve as much energy as possible. Rejuvenation and weight loss will occur naturally as a result of drinking more water, eating fruits & veggies and thereby releasing toxins, fats, and colon debris; not through exercise.

    *If you are on medications, please continue to take them as prescribed.

  • Possible Detox Reactions Detoxification symptoms (the reactions that may manifest during a detox) vary from person to person depending on your level of health or specific conditions. The reactions are a result of the body dumping the toxins into the blood stream to be carried out of the body.

    This is a good thing and signals that the body is working hard to self-clean. However, since the DYW 7 Day Detox is suitable for a person new to detoxing and designed to be less-disruptive than many detox plans, it doesn’t involve enemas, skin brushing, or require exercise, which can sometimes lessen detox reactions for some people and can be used if the discomfort becomes unpleasant.

    Most reactions will occur on the 2nd or 3rd day and could continue to the end of the plan. The DYW 7 Day Detox should not cause much discomfort, if any - the daily fiber will help with most reactions, but they can occur. Here are some possible reactions to be aware of (and not to be alarmed by):

    • Nausea • Headache • Acne • Rash • White/coated tongue • Bad breath • Bloating/Gas • Constipation or Diarrhea • Fatigue • Insomnia • Brain Fog

    Again, if you should experience unpleasant discomfort with any of these reactions, try one or all of the following: 1. Drink more Water.

  • 2. Take an additional serving of fiber with water before breakfast, but after the OPTIONAL liver flush. If you are not doing the liver flush, drink the fiber/water mixture after your morning water.

    3. Light exercise that brings about a sweat: brisk walking, a slow, short jog, a few laps in the pool, for example.

    4. Skin Brushing. Using a long-handle natural fiber bristle brush, briskly brush the skin. Start with the chest and arms and work your way down the body. This helps to move stagnate lymph through the body.

    5. An enema may be utilized. Use an enema bag (can be purchased at the drugstore) and pure water only. Laying on your back on the bathroom floor, insert the tip into the rectum (use olive oil for lubricant, but relaxation is the key). Take in as much water as you can, massaging your abdomen. Turn over on your left side and continue to gently massage your lower abdomen in a clockwise motion. Relieve yourself when you can no longer hold the liquid. (PLEASE NOTE: this measure is only for extreme discomfort and is not required).

    6. If your discomfort is pretty intense - like a 7 or more on a scale of 1-10, please stop the 7 Day Detox plan. This is an indication that you may need to prepare for a longer period of time before attempting this detox program. Try one of our Super Simple Detoxes for at least two weeks. Then prior to attempting this 7 Day Detox again, go for a minimum of 1 week without any meat, dairy, or sugar.

  • 7-Day Detox Instructions Daily Schedule: • Upon Waking – Drink 16 oz of water or more, with lemon or lime • Before Breakfast – Liver Drink (optional) • Breakfast – 1-4 pieces of a water fruit AND/OR

    1 large green smoothie w/vegan protein powder (see recipes)

    • Drink 16 oz + of water before morning snack • Morning snack – raw carrots/celery or fresh green lemonade juice • Drink 16 oz + of water before lunch • Lunch – green leafy salad (see recipe for allowed ingredients)

    • Afternoon snack – raw almonds or fresh green lemonade juice • Drink 16 oz + of water before dinner • Dinner – large green smoothie or blended savory soup (see recipes) • Before Bed – fiber w/water

    In Addition: 1. 15 minutes of direct sunlight daily 1. In bed by 9pm, no later than 10pm (sleepy or not) 2. Water Fruits: melon (but only mix with other melons), citrus, papaya,

    pineapple, apples, peaches, etc. (no bananas) 3. Green leafy salad: (dark greens, cucumbers, onions, cabbage, avocado,

    tomatoes, red peppers, garlic, few nuts/seeds, etc.) No dairy based salad dressings, only a small amount of olive or sesame oil, lemon, and natural herbs. SEE RECIPES

    4. Green Smoothie: dark greens, frozen fruit, 1 scoop of protein powder, water. SEE RECIPES

    5. Fiber: pure psyllium seed husks powder - 1 teaspoon with 8-10oz of water

    DYW - 7 Day Detox Schedule at a Glance

    Think of this schedule as an experiment to see what works for you. Some people need more variety than others. However, if you would like to keep it simple and, for example, drink Green Smoothie #3 for breakfast all 7 mornings - that’s perfectly fine. You can also deviate from the recipes, but just remember - no dairy (including yogurt), no store-bought juices, and no added sweeteners.

    The only meal that should not change is the large salad for lunch. The goal is to get your greens in for the day. You’ll get two or three servings if you follow the plan above exactly, which will only enhance your detox results.

  • Green Lemonade Juice

    Juice of 1 lemon or lime One bunch of spinach 16 oz of water 2 green apples

    Directions With a Juicer: 1. Juice the spinach and apples 2. Add water and lemon/lime juice

    Directions Without a Juicer: 1. Blend the apples, water, and spinach ingredients in a blender 2. Using a nut milk bag/cheese cloth, clean cotton-weave dish towel, or a fine strainer WITH a large bowl underneath – pour the contents of the blender into the bowl through the nut milk bag (or whatever strainer tool you are using). Squeeze the juice from the nut milk bag until the remaining pulp clumps together and is as dry as possible. If there is still pulp in the extracted juice, run the juice through a fine strainer into your glass or mug. 3. Add the lemon or lime juice.

    I’ve used several juicers over the years, but when I accidentally threw away a piece of my Lexen Healthy Juicer (which I highly recommended if you want quality juice for less than $60); I started just using my 10 yr old Vitamix (if you’ve thought about buying one of these I would suggest getting a certified refurbished Vitamix) and a nut milk bag and love this method. It’s the only way I juice now. You usually have to add water (or juice) to it, but I don’t mind. It does dilute the juice, but it also dilutes the sugar. Plus, it makes more juice and my money goes a lot further. The icing on the cake is

    that the clean up is a breeze and you don’t have to cut the produce into small pieces to fit the chute of a typical juicer. Simply, dump out the pulp from the nut milk bag in the trash, compost, or freeze in a plastic grocery bag until trash pick up day.

  • Liver Drink

    Juice of 1 lemon or lime 6 oz of warm water 10-12 drops of liquid garlic (Kyolic) or a small clove of crushed garlic 1 tbsp olive oil 1 tbsp of castor oil

    Mix all ingredients together and drink after morning water but before breakfast.

  • Shopping List

    This Shopping List should cover you for the entire week (you’ll have to get additional ingredients for the Green Lemonade and Blended Soups, if you choose to make them for dinner). Organic is always best if available and feasible, but not required for an effective detox. The raw nuts and the organic options may be harder to find at your typical grocery store, but start there first if you are trying to keep your costs down. Many conventional grocery stores and large chain stores have expanded their organic and natural foods sections. I have found raw almonds and walnuts at Target, for example.

    Water = for 7 days, 5-10 gallons of distilled, purified, or spring water
