    The 6European Patients Rights Day isdedicated to elderly participation because:

    - patients rights, especially for elderpeople, are at risk

    - the ongoing global economic crisis ischallenging the social European model

    The recent financial crisis together with publicexpenditure policies make more and more urgentthe setting up of a reform.

    The real looming danger is that social and healthexpenditure could be considered as a cost to becut down and that the equity principle could beconverted into a questionable criteria
