Hosted in the rising rice export nation of Cambodia, the TRT world rice conference 2014 offers delegates some of the best seats in the house for a conference which boasts

one of the largest attendance of commercial players in rice, and the biggest assembly of rice exporters, representing a who’s who of rice trading.

Cambodia will reveal its supply and export potential as well as the challenges it faces on the road ahead to developing not just volume, but value for Cambodia’s premium fragrant rice. The Logistical challenges will also be revealed, together with plans that will aim to deliver Cambodia’s promise as a rice exporter.

2014 has seen the return of Thailand, with stocks being sold in early 2014, a coup which took place on 22 May 2014 and the subsequent end of the rice-pledging scheme in Thailand. This has revealed a Thai rice export machine that is trending towards a 10.5-11 MMT total export in 2014, a new record, if achieved. Thai rice is competitively priced, and offers buyers a variety of options, from old crop (from stocks), and a main crop which will come with minimal government support to deliver some of the best priced Thai rice seen in the history of rice trading.

India continues to show strong export numbers, but the non-basmati segment faces Thai competition, as basmati rice is heavily dependent on Middle East buying, and as a returning Nigerian interest will test India’s leadership as a global parboiled rice supplier with some stiff Thai competition. Will a late and below normal (11% below normal) monsoon end India’s reign as the world’s largest exporter of rice?

We meet at a time when Thai, India, Myanmar and Cambodian harvests are underway and this delivers an ideal location for not just intelligence, but for trading, and business opportunities. The corridors of TRT World Rice Conference have many stories to tell of deals and will continue to be an important feature of an event built on networking.

Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines have already revealed activities that have seen more Thai influence, with China also adding to the strong Asian demand at the heart of global rice markets. Add the drought in California, and rising medium grain prices, and the larger crop from U.S. Indica producers, and we have several developments impacting on markets, and the vertical markets within.

TRT World Rice Conference 2014 is in its sixth year, and has once again assembled an expert team of speakers who will share their views, address the developments in key markets, and shed light on the issues faced by the industry. Most of all, the networking possibilities at this event are excellent and a sure way to mix business and

pleasure with the aim of building stronger business ties and knowledge.
