Regards,

John Redfield Lt. Governor of Division 22/24

My name is John Redfield. If you are new to Key Club, I hope that you have had a fun first month getting to know what it is all about. If you are a returning member, welcome back to a whole new school year! Key Club is a great place to meet new friends, engage in leadership roles, and help out within your community! Now you may be asking yourself: what is this “newsletter” and why did I receive it? What is Division 22/24? Who is this John Redfield guy? Well, because Key Club is an international club, it is a big thing. With approximately 5,000 Key Clubs in 31 countries, Key Club International takes a lot of work to manage. To lessen the strain, there are many divisions in geographical reasons to compensate for all the work. Your school’s Key Club is a part of something much bigger than it seems. Key Club is the gateway to an international community of individuals who have found the

call to serve. A further explanation of the division can be seen on the next page. I really would like to meet all of you in person, because I have so much more that I would like to say, and I hope that I can inspire you to help out in your club and community. By joining Key Club, you have taken a step towards success! I invite each and every member to come visit Divisional Council Meetings, where you can meet other members of our division through group activities, engage in service projects, and learn more about Key Club! Did I mention there was free food? I hope you all have a fabulous school year full of fun, friends, Key Club memories!

The United States of

America is separated

into smaller, more

manageable

divisions. Just like our

nation, Key Club

International is

separated into more

manageable districts.

These districts are

then separated into

divisions, much like

counties in the states.

Our division’s official

title is PNW Division

22/24.

Division T-Shirt Design Application

IT’S ABOUT TIME FOR OUR ANNUAL DIVISION 22/24 T-SHIRT

DESIGN CONTEST!!

Designing a T-Shirt to represent our Key Club Division may seem like quite the

ordeal, but it is a task that must be fulfilled if we want to be recognized! The

following are the requirements of the contest:

The T-Shirt must have the Red Panda mascot with the words Key Club on the

same side (preferably the front)

On the back side you must include the following schools: Ballard

Ingraham

Nathan Hale

Roosevelt

Shorecrest

You must put “Division 22/24” and “Pacific Northwest District” on the same

side of the shirt and near each other, but it does not matter in what

orientation you put them or whether or not they are creatively intertwined

into your design.

Tell me whether the design is going to be placed on a black, maroon, or

orange t-shirt. Please provide me with a black and white design.

It is preferred that you use a computer based program (Microsoft Paint,

Paint.NET, etc) to create your design, but I will accept all drawn designs as

well. If you draw your design, you must be able to scan it and send it to me

through email.

All designs MUST be sent to [email protected] with the subject title

“PNW D22/24 T-Shirt”. The final deadline is December 5th, midnight, sharp!

I look forward to see what you guys can come up with! Good luck!!

October Divisional Council Meeting

Greenwood Branch

Library (Tentative): 8016 Greenwood Ave

N, Seattle, WA 98103

Sunday October

27th, 2013

3:00pm-4:30pm

“What is a Divisional Council Meeting?” “Why should I

go to one?”

Divisional Council Meetings (DCMs) involve all Key Club

members within a division. At DCMs, members get to

meet other clubbers from different schools, engage in

fun activities that will strengthen our division, and learn

about upcoming service events. Oh, and did I mention

there would be food? Save the date!

We will be having our November Joint Service Event at

Food Lifeline in Shoreline! The event will be on Saturday

November 23rd, from 1-4pm. The address is 1702 NE

150th St, Shoreline, WA 98155.

Officers, please begin looking for chaperones for this

event. We will need one chaperone for every five minors.

Please look for chaperones that can keep members

accountable, not chaperones who have just turned 18.

All students under the age of 18 must sign a parent

consent form and bring it to the event. The parental

consent form can be found here:

http://foodlifeline.org/help/volunteer/documents/Parent

ConsentForm-GroupVolunteering.pdf

The maximum number of students who can volunteer for

this event is twenty-five! Presidents, please send me an

accurate response (including the number of members

who will be there) by the 16th of November.

I’m looking forward to a big turnout! See you there!

What is the Eliminate Project?

What is Maternal/Neo-natal Tetanus (MNT)?

Whose lives are at stake?

The Eliminate Project is a joint project with Kiwanis and UNICEF to terminate MNT

on an international basis

In 30 countries around the world, maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) can

quickly turn the joy of childbirth into tragedy. MNT kills one baby every nine

minutes. Its effects are excruciating– tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful

convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. There is little hope of

survival. And tetanus kills mothers too.

MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil, come into contact with open

cuts during childbirth. The disease strikes the poorest of the poor, the

geographically hard to reach and those without health care.

What can we do to help? Through annual events such as Eliminate Week and simpler events such as

bake sales or car washes, we can fundraise to help eradicate and eliminate

MNT. A simple amount of $1.80 is enough to save the life of a mother and her

newborn child. Don’t hesitate! Let’s start fundraising today!!

Presidents, if you have money for the Eliminate Project, please send it in

person so that I can give it to the District Treasurer! Thank you!

On the topic of the Eliminate Project…

One of the best ways you can help out right now is to gather your friends and

fellow Key Club members to take part in this year’s Trick or Treat for UNICEF!

Schools that still need their Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF boxes: Shorecrest and

Ballard. Please contact me at 206-696-6812 as soon as possible so that I can

provide you with all the boxes you need to participate in this event!!

All proceeds

will go to the

Eliminate

Project! This is

an easy and

fun way to help

eradicate

maternal and

neonatal

tetanus!

Impact your

community,

impact your

world!
