It was with great pleasure that Our General Manager John Tissott and I met with our new Patron Mr Logan

Howlett on Friday 18 November at the Club Rooms to welcome him to the Committee of the Club. Sitting up-

stairs on a beautiful spring afternoon looking out over the sparkling waters of Cockburn Sound, we all appreci-

ated what a wonderful asset this club has and the need to look after and improve what we have here. The Com-

mittee is dedicated to do just that.

As mentioned in last month’s Commodore’s Report the Management Committee has individually taken on

specific roles in addition to General Committee duties. I would like to talk about two of those roles in more

detail this month.

In last month’s magazine our Vice Commodore Roy Richardson outlined the Roles of Duty Officers to be ap-

pointed from our Membership base. The role is to assist new and old members in navigating the new parking

arrangements and understanding the Club protocols to ensure an orderly and no stress boating experience at

the Club for members and their guests. He also issued a “call to arms” to Members to offer some of their time

to take on these roles on a roster basis. Depending on numbers received, this could be as little as two to three

times a year. By having volunteers we can save on the expense of hiring additional staff to perform these du-

ties. We all know that this will have the ensuring result of increase in costs and a flow on to membership fees.

It is very important that we control what happens on the grounds and to ensure that members have good access

to the Club facilities and non members are discouraged from trying to take a free ride following members

through the gate. I further reiterate his encouragement to register your interest in these positions and join a

wonderful band of volunteers to continue to make this a Club to be proud of. Please contact the Club office on

9418 5868 or e-mail [email protected].

The second role that I wish to talk about today is the Sponsorship and Grants sub Committee headed by Rhyss

Whittred and Steve Knight. Rhyss has extensive boating experience, not only in his working environment but

with recreational clubs, including the Perth Game Fishing Club. Steve also has extensive work experience in

the insurance and finance areas and outside interests in the political and Chamber of Commerce areas. We are

very fortunate to have these two Committee members to develop and launch our new Sponsorship program.

This program will add to the financial security of the club and to bring member benefits in the form of dis-

counts and offers from the corporate sectors which service our area and our boating interests. They will be ap-

proaching, in addition to outside interests, our membership base. If you receive a call from Rhyss or Steve

please have a listen to what is on offer and add some additional business to your boating experience. Again

please contact the Club office on 9418 5868 or e-mail [email protected] to participate.

Finally, I wish to congratulate and thank the following members who this year have been members of this club

for 40 years or greater. What a great achievement and we thank you for your continued support. The introduc-

tion of an annual long serving member’s recognition night will be discussed at our December Management

Committee meeting.

Works & Grounds

November Busy Bee Report

Weather wise spot on, decided on an early start. Arrived at the

club to find other volunteers had the same thoughts It didn’t take

long to get the ball rolling, Richard with the help of Alan, Ollie &

Robert continued with the task of painting the under croft toilets.

These are now well underway. Once the walls are completed it is

only the entrance doors and a few items to refresh, to be complet-

ed.

The finishing off of replacing the rusted electrical pipe brackets

around the outside of the club house was completed by George T

and Kevin, good job fellows remind me to supply you with a para-

chute next time.

George W was wandering around looking pretty lonely, but not for

long. He was sent down to keep an eye on Roy and Mick , who

were cementing in the refurbished bench seat near the gazebo, he reported back they were doing

a great job.

The dangerous goods shed is now completed, the good

weather has allowed Tom and Brian to complete the water-

proofing of the base.

The B.B Q. area was once again looked after by ever reliable Ernie. As always a great

morning tea by the

girls, much appreci-

ated by all of us.

Next Busy Bee will be held on Saturday 10th December. Come along you are always welcome.

General Manager’s Notes

The summer weather pattern has seen the number of members using their boats in our Sport Fishing Group or

Cruising Group’s organized events, general fishing or chasing a cray or two.

New Dance Floor

Replacement of our main dance floor which is being replaced due to water damage, has taken longer than expected

as the new timber floor could not be laid until the moisture content in the concrete slab had reduced to the required

Australian Standard. Preparation for the new dance floor commenced this week with an expected completion date

of 9 December.

Apologies to members who have been inconvenienced with our irregular bar trading hours over the past two

months due to a combination of the hospitality are not being available due to noise from equipment being used to

reduce the concrete moisture content and an increased number of private functions.

New Parking Plan

Line marking (which has increased the number of trailer/car bays) has been completed and we awaiting new

signage. The new plan incorporates a “one way” traffic flow for safety reasons and to minimise accidents. Trailer/

car bays are marked in white and single car bays in yellow. We are in the process of educating members on the

new system which can be a little daunting, particularly for members who have been using the previous parking

system for many years.

Non-Member Parking Changes

Non-member parking on club grounds has been withdrawn as parking bays are at a premium and our priority is

members who pay for the privilege of parking in a secure compound. New signage has been ordered and House

Rules have been updated. Guests attending an approved private function at the clubhouse can park in bays

authorised by club staff.

Caravans & Camping

Our caravan and camping House Rules are under review following a discussion at the November Management

Committee meeting, with changes expected to be introduced in the New Year. With limited caravan

accommodation available on-site, it is essential that members wishing to use our facility in December, book

through the office to confirm availability.

Hardstand Storage Compound

Members with boats stored in this area are reminded that whilst it is a requirement, it is in their interest to lock

both gates when leaving the compound, to reduce the likelihood of theft. Members are also reminded that they

must chock their trailers and enter and leave through the correct gates.

Wet Pens

Commodore Des Kelly, Committee Member Stephen Knight and I met with representatives of the Department of

Transport twice over the past month to discuss our pen concept plan and power upgrade. I am happy to report that

progress has been made on both items and we are now working with the Department on an amended pen plan

which meets their requirements.

AMC Meeting

Management Committee Member Stephen Knight and I met with Jonathan Smith, General Manager of Australian

Marine Complex common user facility on 22 November. It was a good opportunity to meet Jonathan and discuss

business opportunities and to gain a better understanding of the facility. We propose to organize a “member’s

tour” of the facility.

Christmas-New Year Trading

Office – The Office will be closed on Monday 26 December and Monday 2 January

Hospitality – The Bar will not be open for weekend trading on the weekends of 24/25 December and 31/1 January.

The club will open at 7pm on 31 December for our New Year’s Eve function.

Refurbishment of Lower Level of the Clubhouse and Courtyard

Management Committee Member Richard Chantler and I are working on the design and cost of refurbishing this

area.

I would appreciate if any member with a building qualification or similar experience, who is in a position to assist

the club with this project, could contact me on 0416 2563094 or on [email protected].

On behalf of the Management Committee and Staff, I wish members and families an enjoyable and safe festive

season.

John Tissott

The CPBA Sports fishing group has recently returned from our annual “Beach Fishing” trip to Horrocks Beach. 22

members, wives, fathers, nieces, sons and friends attended the 4 day trip.

Arriving on Friday we checking into the Horrock Beachside Chalets. After

some rigging, tyre deflation and esky packing we were off to throw a bait.

One group fished the mouth of the Bowes river, another headed north to Lit-

tle Bay/Black rocks area.

By far the Bowes fished better with Tim Evans landing many Tailor and a

large Mulloway.

Dinner around the bbq with some Vince Roberts stories ended a great first

day. Except for Vince….Vince was seen @ 2am walking the reefs then at-

tracting the interest of a pack of Wolves.

The Wolves were after a “Vince Story”

First light saw our fishers head in all directions, again Tim cleaned up on the

tailor. Back to the chalets for a breakfast of champions.

Exploring was the order of the day, the Keating's toured Northampton, Mor-

ton Anderson, Schultz boys and Kelvin Litt all tried hard to bog their land

cruisers.

The afternoon saw a very stiff sea breeze. Little bay was the on-

ly suitable place to fish.

Vince Roberts showed us all how to drive on the beach without

locking in the front hubs, possibly Anderson, Schultz and Litt

could have used Vince’s technique earlier in the day.

The only fish caught was a School Mackerel and guess by

whom!

Tonight we were treated to the best buttered chicken (Katherine

Keating) & fresh fish.

We all finished up with some Vince stories and a few Reds.

Well before first light, cars could be heard heading off to gain the best spot. Too late as Tim had slept the night and

had a few in the bag by 5am. Litt, Williams, Anderton and Anderson all picked up some good fish.

Some of us elected the fish for the future.

Tim decided due to safety concerns (his) to leave town after breakfast and the Schultz boys gave up and went home

as well.

Further exploring to Port Gregory for a few of us, nap time for the rest.

A group fish was planned for the Hutt river mouth however wind and weed put an end to this.

Katherine again catered for the masses with a wonderful spread.

Day 4 saw a howling NE wind with a very hot day planned. Vince and the Price boys fished the Bowes with some

success.

The rest headed down the hill and home.

Horrock beach is located in from Northampton. It is a very tourist friendly town and Reg @ the Horrocks Beachside

Chalets will make your stay special.

All club members are welcome at any SPG fishing trips.

CPBA Duty Roster Initiative

Our article in last month’s newsletter resulted in a number of members volunteering to join our group. We

still require more volunteers, so if you missed last month’s article or simply forgot to register, please

contact Cindy at the Club office on 9418 5868 or e-mail [email protected] to be added

to our group of volunteers.

We are establishing a schedule of special events for this group, occasions and days where we are generally

busy, especially during our summer boating period. On these days, we have a lot of vehicle and pedestrian

traffic within our Club grounds.

To ensure member safety and trouble free operation, we are proposing to appoint Duty Officers during

those times to assist and guide fellow members in the most practical way.

Volunteer Duty Officers will be on hand, in addition to our Bosun, to help with managing traffic flow,

parking and pedestrian movement around the Club grounds and, to conduct regular checks for member

compliance with our House Rules and protocols.

Familiarisation with specific obligations and authorities will be discussed to enable each of our volunteers

to provide the best level of assistance.

Roy Richardson

The Cockburn Volunteer Sea Rescue Group completed 26 rescues over the October-November 2016 period

and have returned 71 people back to the safety of land. TracPlus confirms their vessels have done some

miles over this period - and its only just warming up.

Members able to assist CVSSR with their valuable work, can contact the CPBA office for contact details or

Cruising Group

Well we finally had the Fremantle Sailing Club and the CPBA interclub Time Trial. What a great day, the

weather was great and the seas were not too bad from all that boat chop.We had 4 boats from FSC and 6 from

CPBA join in on the time trial.

All up we had 10 boats from CPBA go for the overnighter and BBQ lunch. We left around 9am and cruised up

to FSC for the start at 10am, the convoy was a sight.

All boats managed to find their way around the course without incident, after that we tied up at the main jetty

with the help from Sam the Harbour Master at FSC.

After settling in it was up to the Sundeck for our BBQ lunch and the trophy presentation.

The unbiased adjudicators set up to work out the scores, and

the winners were…….

Wooden spoon went to Andrew Robinson from FSC…….

Third place was one of our own Terry and Marilyn Piper in

“H Division” …………

Second Place went to another CPBA cruising member Rod

and Christine Bonser in World Cat…….

Rod and Leonie Mews In “Equinox 7” from FSC, so the next

year’s event is to be held at FSC again…………

We also had a handing over of the club Burgees between

FGSC and CPBA, Wes McCullough and Jason Berry from

FSC……

Everyone had a great time, all are looking forward to the next

outing…..

So if you like what you have seen in the newsletter, then

contact Cindy at the club to forward on your request to join in

the fun.
