Redesigned Bowl. The redesigned bowlminimizes falling material lodgingbetween the bowl and the draft arm, which can result in premature wear. The modifications also provide betterload retention on level ground ortraversing down a grade. Bowl capacityhas been increased by 3 yd3 (2.3 m3),allowing more material to be moved.

• Low-profile bowl design offers lessresistance to incoming materials.

• Cellular construction adds strengthand dent resistance to bowl sidesand floor.

Bulldozer Ejection System. Cat bulldozerejection system offers constant spreadingcontrol with minimal material carry back.A spill guard helps retain material andkeep it from spilling over onto the rearof the scraper (standard on tandemengine scrapers, optional on singleengine open bowl scrapers).

Cutting Edges. May be adjusted accordingto job conditions. The stinger (drop down)position provides good penetration andefficient flow of material into the bowl, whereas the level cutting edge is usedfor finish work or very high impactconditions.

Ground Engaging Tools. A wide varietyof Cat Ground Engaging Tools (GET)options such as standard, serrated, andabrasion resistant material (ARM), areavailable to optimize scraper loading invarious materials. For example, ARMscraper cutting edges and router bitswill provide up to five times the wearlife of conventional edges and router bitsin high wear, low impact applications.Depending on applications, the serratedcutting edge may be more cost effectivethan the integrated tooth cutting edge.

Tandem Engine. Two engines ensure thepower to handle steep grades, and makespossible all wheel drive to handle soft, slippery underfoot conditions.

Dual Horsepower. On the tandemengine scraper, the rear engine has dualhorsepower capability that results inbetter performance on the haul roads.

Material Application. Well suited tohandle a wide variety of material fromclay to shot rock.

Push-Loading. To achieve maximumproductivity, the 631G should be pushloaded by a D9R or D10R Track-TypeTractor. The larger tractor offer quickerloading times with denser loads than thesmaller tractor.

Gradeability/Speed/Rimpull

To determine gradeability performance: Read from grossweight down to the percent of total resistance. Total resistanceequals actual percent grade plus 1% for each 9 kg/t (20 lb/ton)of rolling resistance. From this weight-resistance point, readhorizontally to the curve with the highest obtainable gear, thendown to maximum speed. Usable rimpull will depend upontraction available and weight on drive wheels.

Retarding

To determine retarding performance: Read from gross weightdown to the percent effective grade. (Effective grade equalsactual percent grade minus 1% for each 9 kg/t (20 lb/ton) ofrolling resistance). From this weight-effective grade point, read horizontally to the curve with the highest obtainablespeed range, then down to maximum descent speed theretarder can properly handle.
