Come enjoy this black-tie affair with vocal, instrumental and theatrical performances that capture the sights and sounds of New York City in a cabaret style. If you are an artist or know someone who is looking for a “gallery” in which to display an art collection, Neumann University can help. We will serve as a host site for emerging artists from the surrounding area to exhibit a body of artwork. This is an excellent opportunity to share your artistic talent with the University and the greater community. Art exhibits will hang in the University Library and typically run for two months. All works displayed will be in congruence with the mission of Neumann University.

The Duo features the smooth stylings of singer/actress Demetria Joyce Bailey and guitarist/songwriter Skip Barthold. Embracing old school jazz and blues tunes by artists like Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, George Gershwin and Duke Ellington, Demetria is praised for her lustrous voice and light-hearted reverence. Medicine of Ancient EgyptStephen Phillips, Ph.D., lecturerThursday, October 13 • 1:30 p.m.

Did the ancient Egyptians understand human anatomy and did they practice medicine? The answer is “yes.” Data derived from archaeological excavations, as well as from several surviving, ancient Egyptian papyri reveal extensive, perhaps effective, medical procedures that are relevant for use today. Dr. Phillips is the Curatorial Research Coordinator in the Egyptian section of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. He has participated in archaeological excavations in Jordan, France and Egypt. Dr. Phillips is also the Site Supervisor and Physical Anthropologist for the ongoing Cairo University-Brown University Expedition in the Great Western Cemetery at Giza.ADMISSION: General $10; FREE for Neumann students, staff, and Cultural Arts Forum members.

This intimate review of Eleanor’s journey reveals the stories of rising above a broken childhood to living a life that dared to challenge injustice and shake the status quo of society. First Lady for 13 years, Eleanor redefines and expands this role to a position of power. Using her influence, she champions for Jews, African Americans and women. Mrs. Roosevelt spent a great part of her life helping the American people open their eyes to blind spots and to have the courage to change. Author Ann Atkins’ writing and presentations bridge history to her audience while providing encourage- ment and enlightened ideas to inspire their own lives. Tiny Tim retells the story of his Uncle Scrooge’s redemption from greed and mis- anthropy.
