The 2019 class of Leadership Mitchell celebrated its graduation May 16. The Leadership Mitchell program provides the opportunity for participants to develop personal and professional skills, preparing them for community service and leadership, as well as motivation to take an active role in community affairs. The class meets monthly from September to May each year.
As the culmination of the curriculum, each year the class plans and implements a class project that complements the mission of the Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce and/or adds to the quality of life of Mitchell residents and businesses. This year, the class chose to create chemo kits for the Avera Cancer Center. The class packed and donated 37 kits and donated an additional $1,400 to the cancer center with the help of sponsors. Kits included socks, lip balm, coffee, hand sanitizer, tissues and other products to comfort and distract those going through cancer treatment.
Leadership Mitchell participant Calli Williams sought out the class to become more familiar with her new community.
“This class not only helped me geographically, but it also motivated me to become more involved within our community,” she said. “Leadership Mitchell benefitted us all on both personal and professional levels.”
Registration for the 2020 Leadership Mitchell class will begin in August.
