ABOUT SABF
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to exhibit at the South African Book Fair (SABF), taking place from 6 – 8 September at Constitution Hill, inside the old Women’s Jail in Johannesburg.
We are proud that the fresh approach of the past two years has resulted in the South African Book Fair taking its place as the country’s most inclusive, representative and relevant book fair.
This year’s Fair will promote and celebrate the book industry, as well as the joy of reading, targeting South Africans from all walks of life. The #OURSTORIES theme that distinguished the 2017 and 2018 events will continue to inform every element of the Fair.
The Fair will once again be hosted by the South African Book Development Council (SABDC), in proud association with the Fibre, Processing and Manufacturing (FP&M) SETA.
WHY EXHIBIT?
JOIN THE READING REVOLUTIONAs a flagship event of National Book Week, the South African Book Fair highlights the power of books to empower and the importance of the local book publishing industry to positive growth and transformation in South Africa. In this 25th year of our democracy, the SABF is honoured to be able to offer a platform to showcase your work to the country.
Be part of the “reading revolution” that the President, His Excellency Cyril Ramaphosa, has personally called for:
“… I therefore call on our nation to start a reading revolution: a revolution that will unleash untapped potential in our nation. Reading is not just for the young people, it is for everyone. It will help us as a nation to continue with the conversations we have always had, it will promote intergenerational exchanges that are key to preserving our identity as a nation …” President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa. Message of support to the National Reading Coalition launch 15 February 2019, Gauteng.
This reading revolution includes National Book Week, one of the supported campaigns.
The programme of the South African Book Fair focuses on telling #OURSTORIES. A mix of activities, exhibitions, performances, panel discussions and sessions come together to distinctively showcase the power of books and reading to nurture positive growth and transformation in South Africa.

WHAT WE
OFFER
We’re thrilled to announce that we have a new home in the Women’s Jail at Constitution Hill!Once a place for the imprisonment of anti-apartheid activists, the building is now a peaceful refuge in the heart of the Joburg-based precinct that tells the story of our journey to democracy. It is an interactive heritage facility that celebrates conversation and debate through the concept of lekgotla (a meeting or get-together, based on the traditional concept of elders gathering to ponder and question).
This spirit of lekgotla - deeply embedded in the rich stories of precinct - will form the backdrop to our diverse l iterar y and activations programmes, our dynamic marketplace and our l ively family activities.
