My dear fellow exporters,

The possibilities of having a new duty refund scheme replacing the existing DutyEntitlement Pass Book (DEPB) have become strong again as the Government has constituteda task force to give recommendations on an alternate scheme. The taskforce is headed byPlanning Commission Member and former WTO Deputy Director General (DDG) Mr. AnwarulHoda. The group is expected to consider all proposals made so far regarding the schemeand submit its recommendations by the end of 2006.

Friends, your Council recently participated in the 7th SAARC Trade Fair at Karachi andreceived overwhelming response from the Pakistani entrepreneurs. We had set up anInformation Booth there and 15 member companies participated in the Catalogue Show.Nearly 100 serious buyers visited the booth and showed keen interest in variety of Indianproducts and expressed their desire that list of items that can be imported into Pakistanshould be expanded so that more items can be traded between India and Pakistan.

EEPC also organised India's participation in the recently concluded Interphex Asia tradeshow and managed to generate serious enquiries amounting to US$ 100,000 approximately. The show was held in Singapore and focused on healthcare and pharmaceutical industry. Our member firms who participated in the show are confident that these will translate intoreal business. A large number of business visitors from adjoining countries as well as UK,USA, Japan, Korea visited the 3-day show and offered opportunity for serious businessinteraction to the Indian companies.

Yours sincerely,

(RAKESH SHAH)

Automechanika’s international significance - all in almost 80% of exhibitors and40% of visitors originate from other countries - provides interesting opportunities for the global industry.

The Council has decided to organize an India Pavilion of 56 sq. meters at this Mega Show in Frankfurt. Due to very limitedspace availability, it will not be possible for us to accommodate all requests received for participation in this Fair.

Multi-Products Trade Delegation toCzech Republic, Hungary and Poland

(19 - 27 September, 2006)

The Council is pleased to inform that a Multi-Products TradeDelegation will be fielded to Central European countries suchas Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland during 19th to 27thSeptember, 2006.

There is a prevailing degree openness among Central Europeancountries to consider options other than China. This offersopportunities for Indian manufacturers to capitalize. The manufac-turing cost in these countries have also been increasing which haslead to outsourcing of various manufactured parts and are underpressure to reduce their production costs because of their exportdependent economies. Considering the size of world importmarket, associated growth rate, our current market and primarysurvey findings, potential exists in these countries for theengineering goods for a significantly higher growth rate, theCouncil has selected these countries as Thrust Markets for Indianengineering items. Based on this concept, the Council is fieldingthe Multi-Products Trade Delegation to these countries.

India’s export of engineering goods to Czech Republic, Polandand Hungary have registered a remarkable growth during 2004-05comparing to 2003-04 and in case of Czech Republic and Polandduring 2005-06 comparing to 2004-05.
