Stealing in Dwellings, from the Person, &c.

On the 1st ult., between Bellengup, Blackwood Eoad, and Bunbury,—letter, addressed to T. Spencer, storekeeper, Bunbury, containing one W.A. Bank note. No. 58071; also, one cheque drawn ou the National Bank by E.. Gale, favor of P. Martin, dated 23rd March, 1878, amount £2, the property of James Healy. This letter was handed to Thomas Davis, who handed it to David Lawrence the Mail carrier, but it has not reached its destination.—C.L 259.

On the 19th inst., from the bar of the Irwin Hotel, Dongarra,—3 bottles of gin, branded cordial old torn, on label. John Eedwood, exp., late 8104, and James Jones, exp., late 6904, suspected.—C.L 260.

On the night of the 24th ult., from the premises of Eobert Maggess, Perth,—American axe, with new handle; also, canvas cart cover, 12 feet square. Identifiable.—C.L 261.

On the 26th ult., from the premises of Charles Eead, Perth,—woollen Crimean shirt, nearly new.— C.L 262.

On the 21st ult., from a dray, at Tork,—five new wool bales, with red stri])es down centre, the property of C. C. Smith.—C.L 263.

tea, 22 lbs. pork, |-gallon tin can, 2 pannicans, 1 butcher's knife, 1 Crimean shirt, dark stripe pattern, 2 cotton shirts, and 1 white under flannel shirt. Tanterpan and Johnny Duke, ab. natives, also a white man who lives with the natives, and described as stout, about Sft. Sin. high, beard turning grey, and wearing a very dirty shirt, suspected.—C.L 266.

On the 26th ult., from Mary Craig's team, between Guildford and Tork,—one case of brandy, branded J. E. Pellison & Co., Cognac, the property of Mary Craig.—C.L 267.

Between 4 and 11 p.m., the 29th ult., from the dweUing house of Thomas McKenzie, Beaufort Street, Perth,—silver English lever hunting watch, No. 32089, private No. 186, silver Albert chain and key attached, large bible (new), black cover, 6 lbs. fresh beef, 6lbs. sugar, l i b . tea, f ib . butter, packet of garden seeds, and 1 corn sack.—C.L 268.

Some time during the past month from Edward Thompson's garden, Wellington Street, Perth,—a number of flower plants. This robbery is very doubtful.—C.L 269.

On the 21st ult., from the stable at the Freemason's Hotel, Perth,—horse rug, nearly new, red stripes round edges, the property of John Kenny.—C.I.270.

Circular Orders and Miscellaneous Information.

CO. "/r.^.—It having been brought to the notice of His Excellency the Grovernor, by several settlers, that the dogs belonging to natives in some Country Districts of the Colony are committing serious depredations amongst their flocks and herds, the police throughout the Colony are hereby directed to enforce the provisions of the 10th Vict., No. 5, stringently.

Should it be reported to the police at stations, or while patrolling districts, that the dogs belonging to natives are committing depredations, they should at once apply under the Srd section of the above Act to the nearest Justice of the Peace for authority to destroy them.

Ofiicers in charge of Districts will see that the above Order is strictly enforced.

Monthly reports to be made of any action taken under this Act.

Miscellaneous. Between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m., the 30th ult., some

person attempted to break into Crowther & Mitchell's store, Northampton, by cutting a hole in the store door 3in. wide by 4in. long; a large iron bar across the door inside prevented the thief or thieves from effecting their purpose. No tracks could be seen on account of the rain.

On or about the 1st June, a large strawberry bullock was shot at the east end of H. Lukin's paddock, Beverley, the property of C. F. and T. Edwards, part of the meat was taken away, the remainder was left with the hide and entrails. When last seen alive it had on a large bell, fastened with a chain. Charles Chance, suspected.

Police to report his whereabouts, if known, to Detective Ofiice, Perth.

Property Lost. On the 10th inst., between the Victoria Hotel,

Geraldton, and the Two-mile Well, Mines' Road,— six .£10 National Bank Notes, numbers not known, • the property of William Montgomery. This man was drinking at the Victoria Hotel, before he left Geraldton, and the money may have been stolen from him while there.

On the 10th inst., from off" a horse at Coojee, Fremantle District,—saddle, much worn, lined along the panels with two stockings, stirrup irons, one round and one square, a brown blanket, much moth eaten at one end, strapped in front of the saddle; also a bag containing some barley, bran, and a bottle of rum.

Horses and Cattle. Got away from P.C, McKenna, at the Eighteen

mile pool, near Kojonup,—Police horse " Jasper," bright bay, about 16 hands high, seven years old, branded something like a figure six invei'ted on near shoulder; also saddle and bridle. This horse may make across to Culham, where he was bred.

On the 20th inst., from the person of Thomas Howarth, while drunk and asleep in James Byford's house, Geraldton,—brown leather purse containing one £5 bank note and three or four ,£1 bank notes, Nos. or Banks not known. Also one sovereign and some silver. Vide Apprehensions.—C.L 305.

Eockingham, before J. G. Murray, E.M. aud Coroner, on the body of a female, name unknown, who was found in the sea at Safety Bay, between Eockingham and Mandurah, 25th inst. Verdict—" Death from drowning from the wreck of the barque 'James Service.' "

On the 28th inst., at Mandurah, before J. G. Murray, E.M. and Coroner, on the body of a woman (supposed to be Mrs. Corderoy) who was found in the sea at the Murray bar, on the 28th inst. Verdict—" Death from drowning from the barque ' James Service.'"

Cruelty to Animals
