Stealing in Dwellings, from the Person, &c.

On the 1st ult., between Bellengup, Blackwood Eoad, and Bunbury,—letter, addressed to T. Spencer, storekeeper, Bunbury, containing one W.A. Bank note. No. 58071; also, one cheque drawn ou the National Bank by E.. Gale, favor of P. Martin, dated 23rd March, 1878, amount £2, the property of James Healy. Circular Orders and Miscellaneous Information.

CO. "/r.^.—It having been brought to the notice of His Excellency the Grovernor, by several settlers, that the dogs belonging to natives in some Country Districts of the Colony are committing serious depredations amongst their flocks and herds, the police throughout the Colony are hereby directed to enforce the provisions of the 10th Vict., No. 5, stringently.

Should it be reported to the police at stations, or while patrolling districts, that the dogs belonging to natives are committing depredations, they should at once apply under the Srd section of the above Act to the nearest Justice of the Peace for authority to destroy them.

Ofiicers in charge of Districts will see that the above Order is strictly enforced.

Monthly reports to be made of any action taken under this Act.

On the 4th inst., from a stall at the Bazaar, Town Hall, Perth,—pair gold earrings.—C.L 271.

cealed in a gully in John S. Johnson's field, York.

On the 28th ult., from the person of John Smith, while at the bar of the Stirling Arms and Freemasons' Hotel, Guildford,—I sovereign. Vide Apprehen-

Sometime during the month of June last, fi-om the Pier Hotel, Fremantle,—a quantity of socks, pillow cases, linen sheets, table cloths, and towels marked AP conjoined, the property of Arnott Francisco.— C.I. 273.

possession of Henry Dixon, exp.. Canning, who states the dog followed him from Perth. Eestored to owner.

Between the 27th and 28th ult., from enrolled pensioner Sergeant McNee's bedroom, old G-ovcm-ment house, Perth,—meerschaum pipe, large Turkish head, three grooves running down near bottom of bowl, top of bowl silver mounted, briar stem, silver ferrule, bone mouthpiece, the property of Malcolm McNee.—C.I. 274.

On the 15th ult., from William Clarke's hut, Vic­toria Plains,—241bs. flour, 41b. sugar, ^Ib. tea, and one frying pan. Jiggalong, ab. nat., strongly sus­pected.—C.I. 275.

On or about the 10th ult., from George Clarke's jun., hut, Victoria Plains,—41bs. sugar and one large loaf of bread. Jiggalong, ab. nat., strongly suspected.—C.L 276.

On the 16th ult., from Thomas Damper's hut, near Walebing, Victoria Plains,—1 pint pannican, 1 cotton handkerchief, ^Ib. powder, 21bs. shot, ^ box gun caps, and 7 skeins of thread. Jiggalong, ab. nat., strongly suspected.—C.L 277.

On the 26th ult., from the residence of G. H. Sweeting, Guildford.—blue pdot cloth Inverness cape. Identifiable.—C.L 278.

On the Sth inst., from the store of Abraham Michael, Guildford,—brown silk umbrella, small size, carved handle, with eyelet hole and steel chain attached. Samuel Crawley, exp., late 7670, suspeqted. Identifiable.—C.L 279.

it having been re-shipped to Albany by mistake.

Sometime in March last, from off seven horses, at Dongarra,—seven bells, Nos. 5, 6, and 7, two branded JM outside, and five got three file marks inside edge of bells, the property of James Mountain. Thomas Smith, exp., late 8988, suspected.—C.L 282.

On the 6th inst., from Mary Goodhall's residence, Perth,—pair of gold ear drops, 3 white stones in one and two in the other. Christina Burkinshaw com­mitted this robbery.—C.L 283.

On the 8th inst., from John Stubb's hut, Guildford Eoad,—one white blanket and one pannican. Vide Apprehensions.—C.L 284.

Miscellaneous. Between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m., the 30th ult., some

person attempted to break into Crowther & Mitchell's store, Northampton, by cutting a hole in the store door 3in. wide by 4in. long; a large iron bar across the door inside prevented the thief or thieves from effecting their purpose. No tracks could be seen on account of the rain.

WILLIAM BUEKINSHAW, t.l., Eeg. No. 4873; charged at Fremantle Police Court, ou the 6th inst., by Det. Corpl. McKay, with committing a breach of the ticket-of-leave regulations, by working on his own account. Fiued 20s., or 14 days' imprisonment.

On or about the 1st June, a large strawberry bullock was shot at the east end of H. Lukin's pad­dock, Beverley, the property of C. F. and T. Edwards, part of the meat was taken away, the remainder was left with the hide and entrails. When last seen alive it had on a large bell, fastened with a chain. Charles Chance, suspected.

the 2nd inst., by Assistant Coxswain Eaftery; charged with assaulting and resisting the Police in the execution of their duty, 2 months' h.l.

Fremantle Police Court, on 6th inst., by William Hayes, Officer of Customs, with smuggling about 10,000 cigars, from the ship " Amur," at Fremantle, on or about the 13th February, 1878. Fiued £100 and costs.

Inquests. On the 6th inst., at the Colonial Hospital, Perth,

before E. W. Landor, P.M. and Coroner, on the body of George Westwood, exp., late 323, who was killed by a tree falling on him at Balcutta, on 6th inst. Verdict—"Accidental Death."

Property Lost. On the Srd inst., in the Town Hall, Perth,—gold

locket, oval shape, 2 portraits inside.

On or about the Srd inst., in St. George's Terrace, Perth,—gold ear drop, vine leaf pattern.

On the Sth inst., from ab. nat. Bob's hut, at Mrs. Blechynden's, Beverley,—large damper, 2 pieces of pork, 2 neckties, 1 box of scent, and 1 brass Albert chain. Patrick and John Martin, suspected.—C.L 286.

On the 18th inst., from William Smith's team, York Green Mount,—cue case containing 201bs of

tobacco and 201bs of soda, the property of J. W. Brown.—William Taylor, exp., late 8436, committed this robbery.—C.L 287.

On the 13th inst., from the Commercial Hotel, Perth,—large bagatelle table cover, made of coarse towelling, seam down the centre, small hole burnt in it, hemmed both ends, the property of Hannah King. Identifiable.—C.L 288.

On the night of the 7th inst., from John Williams' store, Willo-gully,—a quantity of woollen socks, color blue with white toes, a quantity of colored silk band-kerchieves and several other articles.—William Buck­ley, ex., late 9926, suspected.—C.L 289.

DAVID CEAWPOED ; charged on warrant issued at Geraldton, on the 6th inst., with being indebted to Henry Gray in the sum of ^8128 12s. 7d. for money lent, and for goods sold and delivered to the said David Crawford, and that there is reasonable grounds to believe that he is about to leave the Colony. Property Lost. On the 10th inst., between the Victoria Hotel,

Geraldton, and the Two-mile Well, Mines' Road,— six .£10 National Bank Notes, numbers not known, • the property of William Montgomery. This man was drinking at the Victoria Hotel, before he left Geraldton, and the money may have been stolen from him while there.

Horses and Cattle. Got away from P.C, McKenna, at the Eighteen

mile pool, near Kojonup,—Police horse " Jasper," bright bay, about 16 hands high, seven years old, branded something like a figure six invei'ted on near shoulder; also saddle and bridle. This horse may make across to Culham, where he was bred.

Sold at Fremantle, on the 18th inst,, the Eesident Magistrate,—one heifer, white. No brand.

Inquests. On the 26th inst., at the Eockingham Arms Hotel,

Eockingham, before J. G. Murray, E.M. aud Coroner, on the body of a female, name unknown, who was found in the sea at Safety Bay, between Eockingham and Mandurah, 25th inst. Verdict—" Death from drowning from the wreck of the barque 'James Service.' "

On the 28th inst., at Mandurah, before J. G. Mur­ray, E.M. and Coroner, on the body of a woman (supposed to be Mrs. Corderoy) who was found in the sea at the Murray bar, on the 28th inst. Verdict—" Death from drowning from the barque ' James Service.'"

Cruelty to Animals

THOMAS SHANNON ; charged at Victoria Plains Police Court, on 16th inst., by L.C. Troy, with cruelly treating two horses, by working them while in an unfit state from sore backs. Fined £1 for each horse aud costs.
