EDITOR’S LETTERThis is the most emotional editorial I have ever written since we launched in 2013. Our black brothers and sisters have turned from being unemployed to being criminals. The Tshwane Mayoral battle have given criminal opportunists to burn buses, to loot Somalian/Pakistanian tuck shops, to rob people, to block roads, to loot township shopping centres and more. We all know that the ANC had to bring a comprise candidate due to the rivalry between Sputla and Mapiti, but destroying people's properties won't solve the problem. The minister of defence must just deploy the army in to these areas (Mabopane, Soshanguve, Hammanskraal, Ga-Rankuwa, Attridgeville and Mamelodi) to assist the police with these protests. Black child you have a long way to go. We need to have youth development programmes that are effective in the townships, so that we can take this young men who engage in illegal protests and looting away from the streets and into classrooms, boardrooms, etc.

TASK TEAM TO INVESTIGATE POLITICAL KILLINGS

The voters' roll has increased by 11.3 percent since the previous Local Government Elections in 2 0 11 , s a y s t h e E l e c t o r a l Commission of South Africa (IEC). This comes as IEC Chief Electoral Officer Mosotho Moepya has just certified the voters' roll for the 2016 Municipal Elections, paving the way for a record 26 333 3535 voters to cast their ballots on 3 August. Also, the Commission says the voters' roll is also 943 203 more, which is a 3.7 percent increase, than were on the voters' roll for the 2014 National and Provincial Elections. “The voters' roll contains approximately 77 percent of all eligible citizens of voting age based on population estimates provided by Statistics South Africa. “In line with population trends and previous elections, approximately 55 percent of the voters, which is 14.47 million, are women compared to 45 percent men, who makes 11.87 million,” said the Commission. According to the Commission, Gauteng has the highest number of voters with 6.2

A multi-disciplinary task team has been set up to investigate political killings and where possible, to prevent them from happening in the build-up to the local government elections. The team will be made up of members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) from different units, including Crime Intelligence, Detectives, Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) and other specialised units like Forensics, Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko said on Sunday 12 June. There have been reported attacks and killings linked to politics, especially in KwaZulu-Natal. Minister Nhleko has expressed his serious concern at these incidents, saying a situation like this cannot be allowed to continue, especially in the context of democracy.

million certified voters followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 5.4 million, the Eastern Cape with 3.3 million and the Western Cape with 3 million. T h e C o m m i s s i o n s a i d approximately 69 percent of all voters are located in these four provinces. The voters' roll has, according to the Commission, increased by 42.5 percent in the number of voters since the first Municipal Elections using a voters' roll in 2000. “A comparison of the voters' rolls over the past four Municipal Elections shows that the highest growth in voters has occurred in the Western Cape, showing 56.8 percent increase since 2000. “The Western Cape is followed by KwaZulu-Natal with a 54.6 percent increase. The lowest growth has occurred in the Free State where the voters' roll has grown just 20 percent in the past 16 y e a r s . “ I n t e r m s o f a g e , approximately 48 percent of all voters are aged under 40 years old, marking 12.7 million,” said the Commission.

“We have noted with serious concern the incidents of killings, particularly where political figures are victims or where the killings are being linked to the upcoming local government elections.” The Minister called upon all members of the public or political parties, who have the information on the killings to make the information available to the police so that these can be investigated quickly and thoroughly. “We appeal to all responsible South Africans who value their democracy to ensure that this situation is not allowed to continue by giving information at their disposal to the police so that these killings can be stopped and for perpetrators to face the full might of the law,” said Minister Nhleko.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is currently recruiting former officers back into the service. In a statement issued on Tuesday 7 June, SAPS said the re-enlistment process will be done in the 2016/17 financial year. Former SAPS members will be appointed to the ranks of constable to colonel, depending on the rank they held when they left the service. The recruitment drive is targeted at specialized units such as the Detective Service, Visible Policing, K9, Public Order Policing and Support, Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Khomotso Phahlane said. Phahlane said this re-enlistment process will not replace or affect the normal recruitment and training process. “It goes without saying that we are looking to re-employ the best-of-the-best, former employees who have a lot to offer in terms of past experience, skills integrity and commitment. “Only applications on the prescribed forms, received during the periods specified in the advertisements on the SAPS website, from candidates meeting the set criteria will be considered.” Former members applying for re-enlistment will be subjected to a thorough screening process, which will include, but not be restricted to: psychological assessment; fingerprinting; reference-checking; medical testing and checking of previous SAPS employment records. Only those former members who have good attendance and disciplinary records need apply. The applicant should also have successfully completed basic police training and relevant functional police training courses, among other requirements. “Former members who left the SAPS due to retirement, were dishonorably discharged or dismissed, left pending the finalization of disciplinary and/or criminal proceedings or left due to ill-health retirement or medical boarding, will not be considered for re-enlistment,”

said Phahlane. SAPS has already placed advertisements regarding this process in South African Sunday newspapers. During the previous re-enlistment process in the 2015/16 financial year, SAPS received 3 152 applications but only 529 of the applicants met the prescribed criteria. Of these, 180 were deployed in the Detective Service, 297 in Visible Policing and 52 in the Support environment, with ranks ranging from constable to colonel.

AIRLINK ADRENALINE SHOW HIT WONDERBOOM AIRPORT

Words: Frans Malatsi

The Airlink Adrenaline Show kicked off at Wonderboom Airport on 10 June. The Airlink Adrenaline Wonderboom Airport Show was taking place from 10 to 12 June 2016. It geared up to be one of the continent's biggest civilian air shows of 2016. The event is part of Wonderboom Airport's 80th birthday celebrations. The Show is a partnership between the City of Tshwane, Airlink and the tenants of Wonderboom Airport. The driving force behind the show is Villa San Giovanni (VSG). Thursday 10 June was reserved as a career day and organizers wanted to expose pupils to career opportunities in the world of aviation and the motor sport. The show gave both industries the opportunity to assist pupils in

discovering the magic of aviation and motorsport. Considered to be a first for South African air shows was the 4, 1 km racetrack and a 950 m drag race strip, which gave attendees a unique mix of aviation and motorsport over the two days. The MMC for Economic Development and Spatial Planning, Cllr Subesh Pillay, said this event is a brand that would grow from strength to strength over a long period. "It has a positive impact on the economy of the city and once the event is established we are going to see people from other parts of the world coming for it," he said.

CAREERSHOW TO TURN DOWN AN

INTERVIEW LIKE THE PROFESSIONAL THAT YOU ARE

DYNAMIC ENTREPRENEURSNICK KAOMA

Frustrated by the slow pace of studying for a BCom Accounting, writing hypothetical business plans and balance sheets, Nick Kaoma decided to hurry up the process and start a business. He dropped out and spent some time researching the Cape Town fashion and media culture, attending events such as Design Indaba and Fashion Week, while paying his way as a waiter and later as a sales executive for Cape Media. His blogs during this time drew the attention of Uhuru Communications and he progressed from feature writer for their Student Choice publication to editor at the age of 24. Finally, in 2008, he convinced Vega graduate Mzoxolo Gcwabe to become his business partner and together they started lifestyle brand Head Honcho. Thanks to clever collaborations with brands such as Miller and Play, as well as a symbiotic relationship with brand ambassadors AKA and Lulo Café, Head Honcho became the first local brand to be stocked in Shesha and Sportscene outlets all over the country and has become the voice of ambitious South African youths who aim to “live progressively”. At the 2012 South African Hip Hop Awards the Head Honcho family picked up six awards, including King of Gauteng, for Marketing Director Tebello Motsoane and Hustler of the Year for Kaoma — an apt prize for a man who once hustled his way into a meeting with design icon Gavin Rajah, with just a few sketches and some exaggerated claims about a clothing label on the production line. Having secured accounts with national chains in Nigeria and Zambia, Head Honcho is set to grow into the rest of Africa. That's only the beginning — 31-year-old Kaoma has also just started a branding and marketing firm called 6th Avenue and is pushing ahead with his dream to take over the world, “one city, one country at a time”.

Turning down an interview can never be an easy task, and it becomes even worse when you'd love to accept the offer but the timing just isn't right. Maybe, you have another interview scheduled for the same day, or perhaps you can't leave your current job just yet. No matter what the case may be, you want to decline the invitation without painting yourself in a bad light, just in case another opportunity is available. So, can you cancel the interview in a way that the hiring manager understands? Of course yes! Just keep these things in mind. The two most important aspects to remember when cancelling an interview are your timing and the medium of communication you use:1. Respect the hiring manager's timeGet in touch with the interviewer as soon as you find out that you need to cancel your interview. If you wait till the last minute to cancel it, it will be a wasted effort and you'll come across as disrespectful. Although you may be keen to interview for the same position another time, keep in mind that your timing may never be right. Sometimes, the same position may always be available, such as call center agents. In other cases, positions need to be filled in ASAP and so you can't expect the company to wait for when the time is right for you. Either way it's important to respect other peoples' time – they'll respect yours too. Also, notifying the hiring manager sooner rather than later, will compensate for your cancellation.2. While a well-crafted email may do the trick, picking up the phone is usually a better option. Be honest about your reason for cancelling the interview – the hiring manager will take more kindly to the news. If for

personal reasons you can't provide further details, make that clear, but do give as much detail as you can. You can share how excited and thankful you are for the company's consideration, and how given different circumstances, you would have loved to accept it. Then mention your interest in being kept in the loop if new positions are available in the future. If you can't reach the hiring manager and need to leave a message, note the name of the person you've left the message with - it will add a personal connection.Keep in touchIf you're really keen to be notified about new opportunities as they become available, make an effort of keeping the communication lines open. Truth is your CV and cover letter has either been thrown in the bin or has been digitally archived with the other candidates who didn't make the cut. Follow the company on social media; send articles you think they may be interested in, tweet about any of their developments you think are awesome, etc. In this way, when you're ready to get in touch with the company again, the hiring manager will have an idea of who you are. Of course things do happen and you'll have to cancel at the last minute. It's understandable, and the hiring manager may understand too. Still, make cancelling interviews a seldom habit. Keep in mind that the professional world, especially among recruitment agencies can be small. Word will spread fast if you make a habit of ditching your interviews, making it hard to get a job. -Career24.com

I'M GETTING MARRIED - WHAT ARE MY PROPERTY RIGHTS?

Marriage is undeniably a life-changing event, and not just in the emotional sense - it alters the way we manage things like finances and property ownership as well. “All marriages are contractual, whether you sign an antenuptial or not, and the type of contract you choose determines how the ownership of assets is assigned to each spouse during the marriage and in the event of death or divorce,” says Clarke. Tony Clarke, Managing Director of the Rawson Property Group, says the contractual side of tying the knot may not be particularly romantic, but it can have far-reaching effects on your future, and should definitely be a part of your discussions before you say “I do”. “Property is often the most valuable asset a person will own in their lifetime,” says Clark. “It's also pretty central to most marriages - the marital home - but that doesn't necessarily mean ownership is always shared equally between spouses. It really depends on your marital contract, and can be affected by whether the purchase was made before or after the marriage.” With more and more couples waiting until later in life to get married, he says it's not uncommon for one or both parties to already own property before the wedding. They may even share ownership of a property, and have a contract in place to define their ownership rights and responsibilities. According to Clarke, however, these contracts may be superseded by a marriage contract in some situations, and couples can't just assume the same agreement will carry through when they become spouses. “All marriages are contractual, whether you sign an antenuptial or not, and the type of contract you choose determines how the ownership of assets is assigned to each spouse during the marriage and in the event of death or divorce,” he says. In South Africa, the default marital contract is in community of property, and if you don't have an antenuptial drawn up before the wedding, this is the contract that will govern your marriage. “When a couple marry in community of property, they agree to share all marital and pre-marital assets equally,” says Clarke. “Accrual basically means anything bought or earned during the marriage - otherwise known as marital assets - will be divided equally between the spouses should the marriage end for any reason,” says Clarke. “That means both spouses will be equal and joint owners of any property bought before or after the marriage, regardless of whose name is on the title deed. They will also both need to consent to any future property sales or purchases.” Most

modern couples choose not to be married in community of property, however. Rather, he says they choose between marriage by antenuptial with or without accrual. “Accrual basically means anything bought or earned during the marriage - otherwise known as marital assets - will be divided equally between the spouses should the marriage end for any reason,” says Clarke. “That means any property bought after the marriage will be considered jointly-owned in the event of death or divorce, unless it has been specifically excluded in the contract. Assets bought or earned before the marriage, however - including property - will belong to the original owner alone.” If a couple jointly owns a property before marriage, he says the original ownership division should be specified in the antenuptial agreement. “That way, if the marriage should end, each spouse retains the shares agreed upon when they made the purchase.” Marriages by antenuptial without accrual do not share ownership of any marital or pre-marital assets. “In this case, whoever bought the property owns the property, but things can get a little complicated if both spouses contribute to the cost of ownership,” says Clarke. Marriages by antenuptial, whether with or without accrual, do not require consent from both spouses for property purchases or sales. This is because all property remains individually owned until the dissolution of the marriage, at which point the assets are divided according to the agreement in place. “There is no single right way to handle property ownership when you marry,” says Clarke. “It's something you need to discuss with your partner, and consider all your options to find the best fit for you. It's always a good idea to consult with a lawyer if you have any questions, and be open and honest about your hopes, expectations and beliefs.” –Property24.comrequire consent from both spouses for property purchases or sales. NTINI HITS OUT AT CSA OVER ZIMBABWE

Former South African paceman and caretaker Zimbabwe coach Makhaya Ntini has been critical of Cricket South Africa's reluctance to help neighbours Zimbabwe. Ntini believes the CSA should play a greater role in helping out the struggling Zimbabwe cricket set up. In a recent interview with the Sunday Times, Ntini said: "The first thing I asked when I got here was what is CSA doing to help and I picked up that South Africa is not keen on visiting here and they don't want much to do with Zimbabwe. It was sad to hear that, along with the fact that I was told they didn't want to come to Zimbabwe for the tri-series they played with Zimbabwe and Australia two years ago," Ntini has lashed out at South African cricket's governing body, and queried their motives: "I'd like to find out why they nearly pulled out of that series and also ask why they don't want to support Zimbabwe, (especially since) they are the only other good cricketing nation on the continent." The caretaker coach was South Africa's first Black player, and now becomes the first Black South African to coach at international level, Ntini doesn't place any stock in those facts but believes that as a black African he will be able to help Zimbabwe cricket: “We've learnt to work hard, share and care as Black people. That I think is one of the reasons why I was approached for this position. If you are a caring person, you are able to work well with people and this is what Zimbabwe cricket has been needing,” Zimbabwe lost their first game under Ntini to a young India side on June 11 and will face India in two more ODIs on June 13 and 15 before clashing with India in three T20Is - Sports24.co.za

MATHOHO'S CHIEFS CONTRACT CLARIFIED

Eric Mathoho's agent has clarified the erroneous assumptions that the Kaizer Chiefs defender will be a free agent next month. It was reported earlier this week that Mathoho's contract with the Glamour Boys was set to expire at the end of June. Football agent Tim Sukazi has clarified that his client has one more year remaining on his Chiefs deal. "His contract comes up on the 30th of June 2017, not now. There is nothing further to that at this moment and in any case, a contract of a player like that cannot expire easily," Sukazi told The Sowetan. Sukazi admits that he wants to secure a move abroad for Mathoho, but denied links with French Ligue 1 club Monaco. "We are trying hard to get him abroad, but my trip to Monaco had nothing to do with football. It is business as usual in terms of trying to get him abroad. We believe he is ready," he said. –Sports24.co.za- Sports24.co.za
