This weekend, we will have a Special Collection for World Mission Sunday. It is a day set aside for Catholics worldwide to recommit themselves to the Church’s missionary activity through prayer and sacrifice. As described by Pope John Paul II, World Mission Sunday is “an important day in the life of the Church because it teaches how to give: as an offering made to God, in the Eucharistic celebration and all the missions of the world.”
Envelopes are in the pews for your use. There will not be a second collection, but instead, we ask that you include your offering in the special envelope with the regular collection. Thank you!

MASS SCHEDULE & INTENTIONS FROM OUR PASTOR
Tuesday, October 22nd is the optional memorial for Saint John Paul II, Pope. It’s a rare treat for us to be able to celebrate a saint that was alive here on earth during our own lifetimes! If you ever met Saint John Paul II (with tens of thousands of your closest and dearest friends in St. Peter’s Square), have a
special place in your heart for the author of The Theology of the Body, or have some extra time this week, I hope you will be able to come to our 6 pm Mass that day as we remember our Polish Pope. (The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick will follow for those who are ill). I look forward to seeing many of you at our Senior Mass and Lunch this Thursday at 11 am. Mass at 11 am—if you can’t stay for lunch that’s fine! The theme is apples, a perfect Autumn item.
Dear Parish Family & Friends,
Peace and all good,
Fr. Steve Giannini

COFFEE & DONUTS Sunday Coffee and Donuts is a time for fellowship, good conversation and, of course, coffee and yummy donuts after the 8:45 am Mass on most weekends. We would like to thank Jerri Eder for being the chairperson of this ministry for the past several years. Jerri is stepping down from her position at the end of December and in order for Coffee and Donuts to continue, we need someone to fill her position. If you are interested, please contact Sue LaRue, [email protected], for more information.
It Takes A Parish….
On September 14, 2019, over 50 of our parish ministry leaders gathered together for a Pastoral Planning Day. Our objective was to review each ministry’s mission in the light of Communication, Stewardship and Evangelization with a special emphasis on youth.
In April 2019, Pope Francis released Christus Vivit (Christ is Alive), an Exhortation to young people and to the entire people of God. In it he writes;
“The Community has an important role in accompaniment of young people; it should feel collectively respon-sible for accepting, motivating, encouraging and challenging them.” CV 243 “If we journey together, young and old…together, we can learn from one another, warm hearts, inspire minds with the light of the Gospel, and lend new strength to our hands.” CV 199 And in Section 206, he says “motivated by this spirit (journeying together) we can move towards a participatory and co-responsible Church…no one should be excluded or exclude themselves.”
With the Holy Father’s urging and scripture (particularly Romans 12:1-18) as a call, our parish ministries discussed and outlined ways in which we as parish family can accompany each other to utilize our gifts, learn from each other and serve side by side.
We thank all those who participated in this morning of reflection, commitment and action. Now we call upon all our brothers and sisters of our parish family to join us and commit to reach out, listen, invite, encourage and support each other, young and old.
This may require us to move out of our comfort zone and embrace our awkward feelings or preconceived ideas, but through the promptings and support of the Holy Spirit, we can accept this challenge and continue to foster a beautiful expression of Christ’s love here at Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi Parish.
Christ is alive!

Join the Choir for the Christmas
Season
Have you ever thought about joining our adult choir for Christmas?
Well, if you have, now is the acceptable time! We need all voices for all parts to make our choir sound joyful this year. We rehearse on Thursdays at 7:00 pm in church, and the rehearsals usually end around 9:00 pm. We will sing at the 9:00 pm Mass on Christmas Eve and then again on Epiphany Sunday January 5, 2020. Join us for rehearsals on the seven Thursdays before Christmas beginning November 7th. We will not meet on Thursday, November 28th, Thanksgiving Day. Don’t feel as if you have to have a great voice to join; we need many voices to fill our worship space with great music and yours will fit right in! We also have a lot of fun in the process. Please plan on joining us for this special season of worshiping our Lord by giving Him the gift of your time and talent. If you need further information, please contact Bill Hill at (317) 859-4673 ext 114, or by email at [email protected].

Send a hand-written note, or card, to your Bishop and Priests telling them what their Sacrament and friendship mean to you. Visit www.wwme.org for further information.
