• 1835 - law allows school districts to use tax dollars to establish school libraries
• 1839 – NYS annual sum for school district libraries • 1892 – NYS School Libraries Division established• 1900 – first school librarian is hired• 1914 - Recognized librarians as teachers• 1925 – NYS mandates secondary school librarians• 1930 - Commissioner's Regulations require specialized
graduate degree for certification of school librarians
