    INTRODUCTION

    A Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is ageographical region that has economic laws

    that are more liberal than a country's typicaleconomic laws.

    'SEZ' covers a broad range of zone eg.

    Free Trade Zones (FTZ)

    Export Processing Zones (EPZ)

    Free Zones (FZ)

    Industrial Estates (IE)

    Considering the need to enhance foreigninvestment and promote exports from the

    country and realizing the need that alevel playing field must be madeavailable to the domestic enterprises andmanufacturers to be competitive globally.

    The Government ofINDIA had in April

    2000 announced the introduction ofSpecial Economic Zones policy in thecountry

    Establish SEZs on waste land.

    Establish SEZ as per the nature of resources in

    the area.

    SEZs will provide avenues for resource

    mobilization.

    Establish SEZs for development not forretrenchment.
