Passage to memorizeActs 2: 44-47

All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling theirs possessions and goods,

they gave to anyone as he had need. … and the Lord added to their numbers daily those who were

being saved.

LeadershipWhy don’t leaders in

different ministries bring about the necessary

changes? What do you think is the problem?

Page 10: 511 A Facilitating resistance

Excuse One: Who am I? (Ex 3:11)

Moses struggled with his identity. He just didn’t feel qualified;

he thought God has picked the wrong leader.

Excuse One: Who am I? (Ex 3:11)

God’s response:It doesn’t matter who you are.

I am with you (Ex 3:12).

Page 13: 511 A Facilitating resistance

Leadership Principles from God’s Word: Facilitating resistanceLeadership Principles from God’s Word: Facilitating resistance

Excuse Two: Who are You? (Ex 3:13)

Moses felt a lack of intimacy. He didn’t know God well enough to

describe Him to the people and lacked convictions concerning his

relationship with God.

Page 14: 511 A Facilitating resistance

Current versus future reality

• Moses concentrate too much on current reality.

• Current reality is always changing.• The clearer our current reality and

vision, the clearer the gap between them.

Page 15: 511 A Facilitating resistance

Leadership Principles from God’s Word: Facilitating resistanceLeadership Principles from God’s Word: Facilitating resistance

We are picture-oriented• If our picture of current reality is

brighter and clearer than our picture of the goal we will stick with current reality.

• If current reality is stronger than the goal, we will after a little progress, return to current reality, and we will give up on the goal.

Excuse Two: Who are You? (Ex 3:13)

God’s response:I AM WHO I AM.

I AM ever present. I AM everything you need (Ex 3:14).

Excuse Three: What if they don’t listen (Ex 4:1)

Moses felt intimidated. He worried about the people’s

reaction to him.

Let’s look at the self talk of Moses

• Self-talk is simply the conversation that each of us is carrying on with ourselves all day long.

• It is estimated that about 50 000 thoughts go through our minds each day.

• Every thought about every experience is recorded.

Page 19: 511 A Facilitating resistance

Negative attitude

• We are not born with our attitudes; we acquire them.

• We acquire them from our own experience of life and learning and from the people round about us.

Page 20: 511 A Facilitating resistance

Affirmations

• There is a lot of negativity around us.• The negative self talk of others will

drag us back.• It is essential, therefore, that we

affirm vividly, with emotion.

Excuse Three: What if they don’t listen (Ex 4:1)

God’s response:When I’m finished, they’ll listen

(Ex 4: 2-9).

Excuse Four: I’ve never been a good speaker (Ex 4:10)

Moses fretted about his inadequacies.Who would listen to him if he

couldn’t even speak well?(Ex 4: 11,12).

This is an amazing shot. This came from a Rig Manager for Global Marine Drilling in St. Johns, Newfoundland. They actually have to divert the path of these icebergs away from the rig by towing them with ships! Anyway, in this particular case the water was calm & the sun was almost directly overhead so that the diver was able to get into the water and click this pic. They estimated the weight at 300,000,000 tons.

What is below the surface in the life of Moses?

(Ex 4: 11,12).

Excuse Five: I know you can find someone else

(Ex 4:13)

Moses fell inferior: He compared himself to others-even

his brother- and decided that he came up short.

"I have walked the long road to freedom. I have tried not to falter;I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered the secret that, after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there aremany more hills to climb. I have taken time here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vistathat surrounds me, to lookback on the distance I have come. But I can rest for a moment, for with freedom comes responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my walk is not yet ended."

Prayer Focus• I thought about how to close this

discussion, but I will stay with the prayer of JABEZ:

• “Oh, that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that your hand would be with me,

• and that you would keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me”.

• So God granted him what he had requested.

Learning, application and commitment: James 1: 22-25

• “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves.

• Do what it says. • Anyone who listens to the word but does not do

what it says is like a man who looks at his face in the mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

• But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it - he will be blessed in what he does.” (NIV)

Learning, application and commitment

• I intend to apply this truth (principle) in my business/Ministry by: …..

• With the help of the Holy Spirit, I will begin applying this truth immediately. I ask and expect my group to hold me accountable for this and to check with me periodically to determine if I am doing so. Please ask me …..
