COURSE DESCRIPTION

bascom Palmer eye institute’s 50th anniversary

scientific meeting is designed for practicing

ophthalmologists engaged in the diagnosis and

treatment of eye diseases. During this program,

ophthalmology experts from the bascom Palmer eye

institute, as well as renowned ophthalmologists from

around the world, will discuss research and the most

advanced medical and surgical treatment options for

ophthalmic conditions including cataracts, corneal

and external diseases, glaucoma, retinal diseases,

neuro-ophthalmic diseases, and pediatric ophthalmic

diseases, as well as new trends in refractive surgery

and oculoplastics. expert faculty will present the latest

developments in the management of ocular

conditions through a combination of didactic

presentations and interactive panel discussion

sessions.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

upon completion of this program, participants should

be able to:

• recognize symptoms, perform better examinations, and

formulate the best management plan for complex

glaucoma cases

• analyze examples of high quality and cost-efficient

ophthalmic tests and select best diagnostic tools in the

management of glaucoma

• identify different interventional techniques in the treatment

of glaucoma and analyze in detail their indications and

complications

• use specific clinical knowledge to facilitate a more

effective and efficient practice of glaucoma

• interpret results of corneal topography for refractive

surgery screening

• treat refractive surgery patients based on topography

findings

• identify different iols for the treatment of cataract and

refractive error, and analyze their indications and

complications

emergencies and complex cases

• enhance patient care by better understanding of timing of

screening and emerging treatments for retinopathy of

prematurity

• manage patients with amblyopia through the preferred dosing

regimens

• evaluate new concepts and management techniques in the

treatment of orbital diseases

• compare different surgical and therapeutic options in

oculoplastic and orbital surgery

• Diagnose and manage patients with orbital problems and

more effectively initiate treatment plans

• evaluate new treatment options and manage complications of

oculofacial aesthetic surgery

• analyze the latest advances in the diagnosis and

management of age-related macular degeneration (amD)

• Debate best practices for management of diabetic retinopathy

and venous occlusive disease

• evaluate electrophysiology, oct, fluorescein angiography,

and other aids to diagnose and treat macular diseases

including hereditary dystrophies and degenerations

• contrast diagnostic features and treatment options in

pediatric retinal diseases

• Formulate options for management of ocular tumors including

choroidal melanoma, retinoblastoma, and lymphoma

• Diagram new treatment options for patients with advanced

uveitis and retinitis

• compare latest vitreoretinal surgical techniques for posterior

segment diseases
