50 years well-dosed
Dear Reader,
50 years of ProMinent is the representation of 50 years of ups and downs, a time full
of idealism and obstacles, but also a time of wonderful successes. The beginnings
were humble.
We had a head full of ideas and a determination to turn them into new technologies.
Enthusiasm is a strong driving force, as are the people who share this enthusiasm.
Continuously moving forward, thinking ahead, re-inventing technology - that is what
ProMinent stands for. Our inventive prowess has written corporate history, connects
the people here and enables us to continuously grow. This makes me especially
proud and, for that reason, I would like to extend my personal thanks to every single
employee.
A brief ramble through the past 50 years relates our journey from being a small
Heidelberg-based company to becoming the world market leader and also outlines
where the future will take us. Enjoy the read!

to be ahead of its time
Courage
Courage to take risks, a visionary idea and enormous inventiveness - a chapter in which Viktor
Dulger lays the foundations for an enthralling success story in 1960. At this time, the mechanical
engineer founds Chemie & Filter GmbH, a small firm in Heidelberg, which primarily manufactures
products for phosphate metering. Its goal is the development of new components that would
improve drinking water supplies worldwide and ensure the economical handling of water.
Passion
Obsessed by his idea, Viktor Dulger develops solutions in all areas of process engineering and
his breakthrough finally comes with a trailblazing vision: the development of an electronic solenoid
metering pump. His solenoid metering pump is more powerful and cheaper than the colossal
pumps produced by the competition – and, measuring just 15 x 20 cm and weighing only 2 kg,
they are significantly more compact. A genuine powerhouse that sets new standards in terms of
precision and the economical metering of chemicals.
Struggle
Not everybody recognises the potential of this tremendous idea. When Dulger presents his in-
vention at the Hanover Trade Fair in 1968 it is greeted with ridicule and mockery by experts, the
'little pump' is laughed at and the young visionary is not taken seriously. However, Viktor Dulger
continues to believe in his invention and decides to throw down the gauntlet to the established
firms: he changes the name to ”ProMinent electronic” and a new brand is born. This is the creation
of a new company, the name of which is known worldwide today. An incomparable success for
Viktor Dulger, both as an entrepreneur and as a visionary.
An invention is not yet a product. It is only when an inventor turns his
”spark of an idea” into knowledge and economic success that the
mere idea turns into actions which can change the world.

Global vision
Every company has its history. The story of ProMinent is marked by the fact that the company
has never rested on its laurels. Onwards to pastures new – this could be the title of a key chapter
in this history. The fledgling firm grows quickly on the back of the success of the ProMinent
electronic and the first international subsidiary is founded in 1971 in Switzerland, marking the
first step towards global expansion. In 1976, the first international manufacturing facilities are
opened in America and, with its first Asian subsidiary in Singapore, in 1980 Chemie & Filter
GmbH finally has the entire global marketplace in its sights.
Global recognition
Several years and many triumphs later, Viktor Dulger pays his invention a very special tribute.
In 1987, the little solenoid metering pump becomes the registered name for the entire company:
Chemie & Filter GmbH becomes ProMinent Dosiertechnik GmbH. As an out-and-out strategist,
Victor Dulger keeps his company on the road to success down two routes: he forms sales and
service subsidiaries around the globe and also builds further ProMinent manufacturing plants.
In 1999 he purchases specialist knowledge and -expertise in the form of Orlita Dosiertechnik
GmbH, thereby usefully supplementing the company’s core expertise, especially in terms of
extending its range of process metering pumps for the oil and gas industries. This turns out to
be a real coup of a strategic acquisition. In 2000, Dulger closes the final gap in the global market
by opening the first South African branch and in Heidelberg, the two millionth ProMinent® metering
pump is shipped. Two reasons for celebration.

A change of generation
In 2001 the time is ripe for change and Viktor Dulger hands over the management of the company
to his sons Andreas and Rainer Dulger. They manage to achieve a remarkable balancing act,
harmonising the pioneering spirit and entrepreneurship of their father with modern management
techniques. As a result. ProMinent realigns itself strategically and focusses increasingly on specific
sectors, thereby radically transforming its perspective on the market. The inwardly-orientated
view of a component manufacturer changes into that of a solutions provider focussed on
specific sectors and their requirements. This stance means that ProMinent can react promptly
to customers’ requirements for individual solutions and, as a result, they achieve a decisive
advantage on the market - once again.
A change of perspective
Concentration on the essentials. ProMinent practises this belief throughout all aspects of its
core expertise. The division of technologies for metering chemicals and those for water treatment
applications is to become more clearly communicated to the public. In 2006 ProMinent founds
its own subsidiary for the water treatment sector: ProMaqua GmbH is born, unleashing massive
potential. Instead of components, ProMinent increasingly offers solutions and systems precisely
coordinated to customers’ requirements. This sets new standards on the market – as well as
generating new stimulus within the company.

A cosmopolitan extended family - the best description for the ProMinent Group 50 years after its
formation. Today, the Electoral Palatinate-based company is at home worldwide with 14 manu-
facturing plants, 55 sales and service subsidiaries in 43 countries and representation in a further
63 countries. They also treat each other like family, with the subsidiaries working closely together,
often across several borders. Global proximity, one could say.
Roots
Despite its internationalisation, the heart of the company has always remained in Heidelberg.
The nucleus of all of its success is its Development Centre. Passionate engineers from all over
the world transform their inventive prowess into new technologies - in the tradition of Viktor Dulger
himself.
Family life
With some 2,100 employees worldwide, the ProMinent Group is a genuinely multicultural family,
and a durable one at that. The majority of the employees have been there for over 10 years, and
many for more than 25 years, thereby helping to cement bonds. There are also many different
occasions where there is welcome opportunity for a lively exchange. Because growing together
is the best way.

Pioneering spirit is what made ProMinent the success it is today and this spirit is still very much
in the air. The people within this company are driven by the idea of pushing the limits of possibility
and mastering even the most difficult of tasks as a challenge. New innovations continue to point
the way ahead, based on the company’s traditional core expertise. As a company, ProMinent
holds more than 100 patents worldwide, and a further 50 are held by Viktor Dulger personally.
This speaks for itself.
Goals
World market leadership brings obligations, such as the need for close exchanges with customers.
This dialogue shows that the trend is moving towards energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly
technologies. ProMinent reacts to this with numerous new developments, such as more efficient
pump drives, with energy-efficient products and with technologies which serve to significantly
facilitate waste water treatment thanks to lower contamination upstream. This means that the
future will bring many more innovations in the field of chemical metering and water treatment
developed in Heidelberg. We all have but a single goal: to exceed our customers’ expectations
as far as possible.

Opportunities
Vision is what guided ProMinent to world leadership and we intend to extend this position of
leadership. With our original goal firmly in sight, our entire commitment, knowledge and expertise
for the future is geared towards the continuous development of new technologies for metering
chemicals and for water treatment. The opening up of new markets and sectors has the highest
priority and we will continue to invest in research and development in the future so that this can
be achieved.
Focus
Expertise alone is not enough. Our customers are essential for the success story of ProMinent.
Their trust and intensive exchange of ideas relating to their requirements and needs is what has
made our success possible. We would like to sincerely thank them for this harmonious collab-
oration and we look forward to many new and promising projects. We have 50 exciting years
