50 Things You Never Knew About Oasis Johnny Depp plays slide guitar on Be Here Now's 'Fade-In out', and on the acoustic version of 'Fade Away', which appears as the B-side to 'Don't Go Away'. If you play the end of 'The Shock Of The Lightning' backwards, you can hear a snippet of 'Champagne Supernova'. The morse code in 'D'You Know What I Mean?' translates to the phrases 'Bugger all', 'pork pies', and 'Strawberry Fields'. Upon the release of 'Time Flies', 'Whatever' entered the UK singles charts at #64, as it was the first time the song had been digitally available to buy. 'All Around The World' currently holds the record for longest song to top the UK singles charts, at 9 and a half minutes long. Liam Gallagher's middle names are John and Paul, which of course are the first names of two his heroes, respectively Lennon and McCartney. 'Mucky Fingers' was going to be the first single from 2005's 'Don't Believe The Truth', with Liam singing it, until the record company insisted that 'Lyla' be released, as it was more commercial. Interestingly, initial drafts for the album didn't even include 'Lyla' on it. The planned B-side to 'Mucky Fingers' was going to be 'Those Swollen Hand Blues' (if you play them back to back, they fade into each other quite seamlessly), which eventually appeared as the B-side to 2009's 'Falling Down', and was the last original Oasis song ever released. 'Flashbax' and 'One Way Road' are Paul Weller's favourite Oasis songs (he even covered the latter on his 'Studio 150' album), while Sir Paul McCartney's favourite is 'Slide Away'. At the end of '(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady', the seagull sound effects start to play, and then eventually go into reverse, before 'Falling Down' starts. The keyboard at the start of the song 'Be Here Now' is actually a toy piano that belongs to Mick Jagger.

The keyboard at the start of the song 'Be Here Now' is actually a toy piano that belongs to Mick Jagger. The drums in 'Meaning Of Soul' were played with wooden spoons, on a cereal box that was placed on top of a snare drum. 'She Is Love' had an animated video that was never actually released. 'Go Let It Out' originally featured an Austin Powers sample in the intro, a version of which has been circulating on the web for some time. From the Beady Eye catalogue, 'The Roller' and 'Kill For A Dream' were both intended for 'Heathen Chemistry', 'Millionaire' dates back to the 'Don't Believe The Truth' sessions, and both 'The Morning Son' and 'Standing On The Edge Of The Noise' were intended for 'Dig Out Your Soul' (the former was rejected in favour of the other Liam-written psychedelic tune, 'Soldier On', while the latter was the name of the broadcast for Oasis' live rehearsal gig in 2008.) From the Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds album, 'Stop The Clocks' was intended for 'Don't Believe The Truth', and then was going to be a bonus track on the compilation of the same name, '(I Wanna Live In A Dream In My) Record Machine' was originally slated for 'Don't Believe The Truth', before being pushed back to 'Dig Out Your Soul', only to be shelved once more, 'What A Life!', 'Soldier Boys And Jesus Freaks', and 'Stranded On The Wrong Beach' were written and demoed in the mixing sessions for 'Dig Out Your Soul' for the supposed 8th Oasis album, while 'Everybody's On The Run', 'If I Had A Gun' and 'A Simple Game Of Genius' were written whilst touring that album in Asia and South America.

A noticeable fact about 'Go Let It Out', is that it was knocked off the number-one spot after only one week by the All Saints single 'Pure Shores'. Oasis' previous single 'All Around the World' did the same thing to the All Saints' 1997 single 'Never Ever'. Both songs also share a similar chord sequence in the chorus. Frontman Liam Gallagher, and All Saints' Nicole Appleton married in 2008. In 1999, Andy Bell joined a band called Gay Dad, only to be phoned by Liam Gallagher the day after, and was offered the job of being Oasis bass player. Naturally, he took it. Johnny Marr plays guitar on '(Probably) All In The Mind', slide guitar on 'Born On A Different Cloud' and guitar and backing vocals on 'Better Man'. No Way Sis, one of the Oasis tribute bands, had a Top 40 hit with a cover of the New Seekers' 'I'd Like to Teach The World To Sing', which they chose because of its resemblence to Oasis' 'Shakermaker'. 'Step Out' had to be withdrawn from (What's the Story) Morning Glory? because of its debt to Stevie Wonder's mid-60s Motown classic, 'Uptight (Everything's Alright)', which Noel was successfully sued for. In 1999, when drunk at the pub, Noel saw the words 'Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants', a quote from Isaac Newton, written on the side of a £2 coin, and wrote it on his cigarette packet, in order to remember it. When he woke up the next day, he saw he'd written 'Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants - A Bum Title'. He claims he managed to realise that 'A Bum' was meant to say 'Album', but never noticed the lack of pluralisation in 'Shoulder' until it was too late. Noel is dyslexic, and also left-handed, but plays guitar with his right. 'Love Like A Bomb' is the only Oasis track to have been officially released that was written by more than one member of the band. Both Liam and Gem composed the song, while everything has been written by either Noel, Liam, Andy, or Gem, seperately. The front cover of 'Don't Look Back In Anger' is an homage to when Ringo Starr briefly left The Beatles, and upon his return, found that the band had draped his drumkit in roses. As neither of them played on 'Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants', Gem and Andy's first tour with the band in 2000 resulted in them being paid a standard session musician's wage of just £85 a gig. Whilst being in different bands, the last lineup for Oasis (Noel, Liam, Gem and Andy) were all situated on the Creation Record Label. Noel and Liam were in Oasis, Andy played guitar in Ride, and Gem was the singer/guitarist in Heavy Stereo. 2.5 Million people applied to see Oasis at Knebworth, while only 250,000 people managed to get tickets to the 2 concerts, meaning they could have actually played 20 nights in a row. The front cover of 'Live Forever' is a picture of John Lennon's childhood home. No member of the band has featured in every Oasis show. Liam walked out of a tour in 1997 (amongst others), with Noel singing the lead vocals, whilst Noel temporarily left the band in 2000, leaving guitar tech Matt Deighton to fill in the guitar parts. 'Let There Be Love' was originally called 'It's A Crime', and was first recorded in 1999. Only 2 Oasis songs do not feature any guitar playing on them; 'Idler's Dream', and 'To Be Where There's Life'. The 'classic' lineup (featuring Liam, Noel, Bonehead, Guigsy and either Tony or Alan) had exactly the same number of albums AND top 10 hits as the post-2000's lineup (featuring Liam, Noel, Gem, Andy and either Alan, Zak or Chris). An actual supernova, first observed in 2003 and designated SN 2003fg has been nicknamed "Champagne Supernova" after the song.

At the time of shooting the video for 'Go Let It Out', the band still had not replaced former bassist Guigsy, so it was decided that Noel would mime the bass parts, new guitarist Gem would play lead, and strangely, Liam would play the acoustic guitar. As Liam was still only just learning to play guitar, he can be seen just playing one chord for most of the video. Noel co-wrote Ian Brown's 'Keep What You Got', which originally just started out as an instrumental of Noel's, named 'Teotihuacan', which is featured on The X Files Soundtrack. Before recording '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?', hardly any of the songs were known to any band member other than Noel. Even more amazing was the fact that the main bulk of recording was completed in 15 days. Paul Weller plays guitar on 'Champagne Supernova', and harmonica on 'The Swamp Song'. The vinyl versions of 'Definitely Maybe' and '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?' both feature bonus tracks not found in other formats. The first album features 'Sad Song', whilst the latter includes 'Bonehead's Bank Holiday'. Despite not appearing until 'Be Here Now', 'All Around The World' was written before the band even had a record deal, and was held back until they could afford to give it the production that the final version has. To this day, Noel Gallagher has no idea why 'Shakermaker' was released as a single. The front cover of 'Standing on the Shoulder of Giants' is comprised of 36 shots of the New York skyline, taken every half hour during the course of a day. Initially, Creation Records boss Alan McGee told Noel not to release 'The Masterplan' as a B-side, because it was too good. Noel replied with 'Well, I don't write shit songs!' After the demise of Creation at the end of the 90's, Oasis set up their own label, 'Big Brother', with which all catalogue numbers were preceded with the word 'RKID' (a reference the northern way of referring to a family member, 'our kid'). Despite being one of Oasis' most well-known songs, 'Champagne Supernova' was only released as a single in Australia, New Zealand, and France. 'I'm Outta Time' was the first single since 1994's 'Shakermaker' to not enter the Top 10, entering at #12. It only spent 2 weeks in the top 75, the least for an Oasis single. Whilst only peaking at #48 in France, it spent a total of 28 weeks in the chart there, the most for any Oasis single. The single release of 'Some Might Say' lends 3 tracks ('Some Might Say', 'Talk Tonight and 'Acquiesce') to the compilation album 'Stop The Clocks'. Surprisingly, this is a higher amount than the number of tracks from any post-1995 Oasis studio album. The video for 'Wonderwall' was the only contribution that temporary bassist Scott McLeod made to Oasis. He replaced original bassist Guigsy, who was citing nervous exhaustion, although after a mere matter of weeks, he then replaced McLeod. Noel asked for Liam Howlett of the Prodigy (who also happens to be Liam Gallagher's brother-in-law) to remix the song 'Fuckin' In The Bushes', but Howlett refused, saying he 'couldn't do anything with it, it was the best it could be already'. The last song that the band ever performed live was their cover of The Beatles' 'I Am The Walrus'.
