Step 1: Mayor Elections

• Mayors will be nominated tomorrow morning.• To run for mayor: 1. Do you possess leadership qualities? 2. Can you fine your friends if they are breaking the

rules? Even if they get mad at you? 3. Can you stay after school for a meeting? 4. Can you be responsible for writing pay checks and

fines before each payday? 5. Can you present a speech to your classmates next

Wednesday? 6. Can you make posters and badges for

campaigning? (No bribes) 7. Can you follow ALL rules yourself??

Step 2: City Council

• After the Mayor has been elected, each city will elect 5 City Council members.

• There is no campaign or speech.• Can you be a leader, fine your friends if needed

—even if they get mad, stay after school for a meeting, and have fines ready for each payday?

Step 3: Job Applications

• All other citizens will apply for the remaining jobs.• Job applications will be passed out after the City Council

elections.• You will be allowed to apply for 3 jobs—so choose carefully.• We can’t guarantee that everyone will get a job they

selected. We do our best!• You do your very best job! If you want to change jobs, we do

re-elect and re-select in January.• Paydays are held every 3 weeks. Bonus bucks and fines are

calculated with your paycheck to figure out your deposit.

Microeconomy Jobs• Auditor: This person is responsible for checking the bankbook for

accuracy and honesty after the banker has recorded employee deposits each banking period. (test required/out-of-school work required)

• Banker: This person records and keeps a record of deposits every three weeks for each employee within the city. He/She is also responsible for keeping an accurate balance for each account and for passing the bankbook to the auditor in a timely manner. (test required/out-of-school work required)

• Bathroom Monitors: These two persons (one boy and one girl) assist the city in seeing that the bathrooms are quiet and orderly. They may levy fines set by the City Council. (out-of-school work required)

• Caretaker: This person looks after any plants and animals in the city. This includes feeding the animals and cleaning the cages.

• Clean City Committee: These persons check daily to be certain citizens keep and leave areas clean. They may levy fines set by the City Council. (out-of-school work required)

• Dining Duo/Trio: These persons assist the city in seeing that the lunch tables are clean for the following classes. They may levy fines set by the City Council. (out-of-school work required)

• Distributor: This person passes out papers, supplies, books, etc. as needed. He/She also serves as collector and may be asked to alphabetize papers.

• Equipment Manager: This person is responsible for handling special equipment or supplies needed for specialists’ classes such as PE equipment, headphones, etc. He/She may also be asked to set up the teacher’s computer each day.

• Health Inspector: This person is responsible for keeping their city as free from germs as possible. They may be asked to clean desks, squirt hand sanitizer, stock paper towels/Kleenex/wipes, and spray Lysol on classroom surfaces.

• Helping Hand: This person(s) assists anyone who is absent by gathering and labeling make-up work. This work will be taken to the office before 3:30 each day for parents to pick up. This person may also be asked to assist in explaining assignments to the absent student.

• Judge’s Assistant: This person assists the Judge in a number of ways. He/She may be called upon to do anything from putting up bulletin boards to helping the Judge remember where her car keys are. This person will also be responsible for assisting the judge with recording/writing classroom fines and calculating AR points for incentives.

• Media Specialist: This person(s) sees that classroom materials and library books are checked out properly and returned in due time. They may levy fines as set by the City Council. (out-of-school work required)

• Public Relations (PR) Director: This person is responsible for publicizing the news of their city and school. They may be asked to post news on an announcement board or change the sign in front of the school.

• Recreation Assistant: This person is responsible to assisting the PE specialist with outdoor equipment that will be needed during the day.

• Runner: This person will be responsible for taking to and going to get any correspondence from the office or other classrooms.

• Snack Manager: This person is responsible for getting and distributing the juice each day.

• Uniform Inspector: This person is responsible for checking the citizens daily for appropriate uniforms—including belts and having shirts tucked in. They may levy fines as set by the City Council. They are also responsible for parent notification of uniform infractions.

Step 4: Auction

• After we have worked all year, had our regular paydays, and developed into model citizens…we get to buy STUFF!

• Auction is held at the very end of the year.• We have items donated from parents and local

businesses.• It lasts ALL DAY, and we have a wonderful

time!!• Those with the most money to shop with did 2

things: AR reading and kept fines low.

Bonus Bucks

• First day packets completed correctly and returned on time- $5000

• Wish list items- up to $2500 per pay period (teacher discretion will be used for large donations)

• Birthday and holiday bonuses- $1000• All books covered during a book cover check- $500

(Book cover checks will be conducted each payday.)• No signature in the conduct book for the nine weeks-

$1000• No homework letters for the nine weeks- $1000

• Every test grade of 100 or above- $200• Report card grades- $500 for every A, $250 for every

academic B• Accelerated Reader- See handbook page on AR

Incentives• Classroom games- $100• Centers- $50-$200 (teacher discretion)• “I Blew Its”- $500 for each one not used during a nine

weeks• Behavior incentives on field trips (teacher discretion)• Auction letter and/or items turned in early- $500• Participation in PTA program- $3000

• Incentives for returning field trip packets- $1000• Used ink cartridges- $100 (limit of 5 per payday)• Classroom behavior charts- $500• Contest entries- up to $3000 for entering. An

additional $3000 at every level (school, city, state, etc.) of participation may be awarded—the entry must be worthy of the bonus bucks! Teachers will announce the amount of BB when a contest is offered.

cubby, book bag, or other class for a forgotten item and/or not having needed materials for class

• *Failing to sign Homework Log or Conduct Book• *”Purchasing” an extra copy of a handout,

homework, permission forms, etc.

• August 12- Micro meeting in auditorium for all 5th graders/parents—2:30

• 13- Nominate mayoral candidates (prepare your campaign during the weekend)

• 16-18- Mayoral candidates campaign (badges, total of 3 posters, no “bribes”)

• 18- Mayoral campaign speeches and elections• 19- City Council elections and job applications

passed distributed• 20- Job applications due• 24- City Council meeting (3:30-4:30 in Mrs.

Rodo’s room)
