    1. EXAMPLES OF ROBOT CAD (RCAD) PROGRAMAPPLICATION

    1.1. Typical RC Structures

    The example below presents application of the RCAD program for preparation of reinforcementdrawings for typical RC structures (spread footing, column, stairs). It shows step by step the method ofreinforcement modeling, edition as well as final drawing layout. The drawing below presents typicalstair reinforcement.

    The following rules will apply while defining reinforcement:

    any icon symbol means that the relevant icon is pressed with the left mouse button,

    {x} stands for selection of the x option in the dialog box,

    d indicates entering the d text in the command line of the program and pressing the Enter button,

    LMC and RMC - abbreviations for the Left Mouse button Click and the Right Mouse button Click.

    To start work in the Robot CAD program (RC part) the user should press the icon located onthe computer desktop or select the command from the START menu. After a moment the Aut oCADprogram augmented with the options enabling preparation of reinforcement drawings (extended menu,additional toolbar, the Object Inspectordialog box, etc.) will run.

    1.1.1. RC Column

    OPERATION PERFORMED DESCRIPTION

    (Column - formwork)Opens the Column GEOMETRY dialog box allowingdefinition of RC column formwork.

    Selects a column with a circular cross section, changes theappearance of the dialog box.Note: A column type may also be selected by enteringan appropriate number (determining the type of a columncross section) in the Column shape field.

    Enter values as shown in the drawing below into the editfields for definition of column dimensions.Additionally axes and level can be defined. If edit fields areempty, then an axis or a level will not be drawn.

    Insert Finishes definition of column dimensions, closes theColumn GEOMETRY dialog box.

    The drawing of column formwork is displayed in the model

    layout.

    Zooms in the drawing, all drawing elements are displayedon the screen in the largest possible (within the drawingarea) scale.

    By means of the window - zoom in the column cross sectionlocated at the bottom of the drawing.

    (Reinforcement cross-section)Opens the Reinforcement - cross-section dialog boxenabling definition of reinforcing bars in a cross section ofan RC structure element.

    Selects reinforcement shape, starts definition of a roundstirrup, changes the appearance of the dialog box.

    Select the following parameters:8in the Diameterfield,30in the Cover field

    Selects reinforcement parameters.

    Chooses the method of reinforcement definition, closes theReinfo rcement - cross-sectiondialog box.

    Select the contour of the columncross-section

    Once the contour is detected, a stirrup shape is drawnwithin the indicated contour.

    LMC on a point defining a lap spliceposition

    Indicates position of the lap splice with hooks; opens theReinforcement descriptiondialog box.

    In the Descriptionfield switch off the

    Lengthoption,OK

    Disregards length of the defined reinforcement in

    description, closes the Reinforcement description dialogbox.

    LMC on a selected point Defines a beginning point of the description (it may bea broken line as shown in the drawing below).

    LMC on the next description point Defines the next description point.

    RMC Opens the context menu.

    Position Changes the position of bar description, closes the contextmenu.

    RMC Opens the context menu.

    Enter Defines reinforcement with description including positionnumber and reinforcing bar diameter.

    (Reinforcement - elevation)Opens the Reinforcement elevationdialog box.

    In the Shape parameters field setvalues as in the drawing below

    Defines parameters of reinforcement shape.

    Selects method of reinforcement definition. Closes theReinforcement elevationdialog box.

    Select defined reinforcing bar no. 2,Enter

    Chooses the number of reinforcement position (2), opensthe Reinfo rcement - pointdialog box.

    Selects method of reinforcement distribution, closes theReinforcement - pointdialog box.Selection of this option results in uniform distribution of thepoint reinforcement along the whole indicated bar.

    LMC on a bar no. 1 Selects the bar on which point reinforcement will be drawn.Defined reinforcement is positioned on the internal side ofthe selected reinforcing bar.

    RMC Opens the context menu.

    Enter Draws the point reinforcement, opens the Reinfo rcement -pointdialog box.

    In the nedit field enter 9 Defines the number of bars in point reinforcement.

    OK Closes the Reinforcement - point dialog box, opens theReinforcement descriptiondialog box.

    Selects the type of description for reinforcement distribution.

    Selects bars which will be adjoined by the extension lines,closes the dialog box.

    Select graphically any bars of pointreinforcement,Enter

    Selects bars of point reinforcement (in the example fourbars have been selected).

    (Reinforcement distribution)Opens the Reinforcement detailingdialog box.

    Pressing the icon available in the Distribution TYPEfield willresult in distributing reinforcement along the selected line or

    along two indicated elements.

    Defines reinforcement spacing by determining the spacingorder with respect to the base point. The icon is available inthe Distribution METHODfield.

    Defines method of graphic presentation of a distributed bar.The icon is available in the Viewing DIRECTION field.

    OK Accepts parameters determining reinforcement distribution,closes the dialog box.

    Initial drawing zoom (all drawing elements are visible on thescreen).

    OK Accepts standard description settings, closes the dialogbox. In the command line the following text appears:Distribution line location.

    LMC on any point determininglocation of the reinforcementdistribution line

    Defines position of the distribution line. In the command linethe following text appears: Description location.

    RMC Opens the context menu.

    Extension line Selection of this option causes description to be displayedon the extension line. Press F8 key to switch off the ORTHOoption.

    Defines position of description, performs distribution ofcolumn transversal reinforcement with defined description(compare the drawing below).

    By means of the window - zoom in the column crosssection.

    Note: Once distribution of transversal reinforcement isperformed, the RCAD program updates automaticallydescription of reinforcement in the column cross-section.

    Fit length of the extension line to the length of a descriptiontext (compare the drawing below).

    1.1.2. Spread Footing

    Initial drawing zoom (all the drawing elements are visible onthe screen).

    RBCR / Formworks / Spread footing Opens the Spread footing GEOMETRY dialog boxallowing definition of spread footing formwork.

    Selects column with circular cross-section.

    In the fields for definition of spread footing dimensions entervalues as shown in the drawing below.Additionally axes and level can be defined. If edit fields areempty, then an axis or a level will not be drawn.

    Insert Finishes definition of spread footing dimensions, closes theSpread footing GEOMETRY dialog box.

    LMC on a selected point After closing the dialog box, a drawing of spread footingformwork including two longitudinal sections and one cross-section appears in the model layout.

    Select and delete spread footing dimensions in the

    generated drawing.

    Zoom in the longitudinal section along the longer side of thespread footing located in the top left part of the inserteddrawing.

    RBCR / Reinforcement - elevation Opens the Reinforcement - elevation dialog box whichenables drawing reinforcement in elevation.

    Changes the appearance of the dialog box, starts definitionof a straight bar.

    Enter Inserts reinforcement with description in a place selected bythe user (compare the drawing below).The reinforcement description including position number,reinforcing bar diameter and length will be displayed on thescreen.

    Zoom in the cross-section along the shorter side of thespread footing.

    RBCR / Reinforcement - elevation Opens the Reinforcement - elevationdialog box.

    Select the following parameters:16in the Diameterfield,70in the Coverfield

    Selects reinforcement parameters.

    Chooses the method of reinforcement generation. Closesthe Reinfor cement - elevationdialog box.

    Select the beginning and end point ofreinforcement (analogically as duringdefinition of the previousreinforcement)

    Selects snap points for the reinforcement being drawn.Opens the Reinforcement descriptiondialog box.

    OK Accepts standard description settings, closesthe Reinforcement description dialog box.

    The reinforcement description will be displayed on thescreen.

    From the bottom toolbar choose theORTHO option or press the F8 key.

    Activates the orthogonal mode.

    LMC on a selected point Determines the beginning point of reinforcementdescription.

    LMC on a selected point Determines the next point of the description.

    RMC Opens the context menu.

    Enter Inserts reinforcement with description.

    RBCR / Reinforcement - point The following message is displayed in the command line:Select reinforcement or enter position number.

    3 Chooses the number of reinforcement position, opens theReinforcement - pointdialog box.

    Selects the method of reinforcement distribution, closes

    the Reinfo rcement - pointdialog box.Selection of this option results in uniform distribution of thepoint reinforcement along the whole indicated bar.

    LMC on bar no. 4 Selects the bar on which point reinforcement will be drawn.Defined reinforcement is displayed on the top side of theselected reinforcing bar.

    RMC Opens the context menu.

    Enter Generates the point reinforcement, opens theReinforcement - pointdialog box.

    In the S edit field enter value 150 Defines parameters of reinforcement spacing.Note: entering a value in the S edit field and placing thecursor at any point within the dialog box will result inautomatic recalculation of the number of bar spacings ina given zone. At the same time the reinforcement drawingchanges.Analogically, entering a number of spacings and clicking onany field will cause automatic recalculation of spacing andchange of the drawing.

    OK Closes the Reinforcement - pointdialog box.

    In the opened Reinforcementdescriptiondialog box switch off theActive option (compare the drawingbelow)

    Deactivates the function of reinforcement calculation.Note: If this option is left active, then reinforcement will betaken into account in reinforcement tables. It this option isswitched off, the reinforcement currently described will notbe considered in a reinforcement table. Thanks to that, theuser avoids including the same reinforcement twice of moretimes in calculations when preparing a reinforcement table.

    Chooses the type of description for reinforcementdistribution.

    OK Closes the Reinforcement description dialog box.The following message is displayed in the command line:Distribution line location.

    LMC on the right side of thedistribution line

    Determines the position of description.

    The example below presents application of the RCAD program for preparation of reinforcementdrawings for untypical RC structures. It shows step by step the method of reinforcement modeling,edition as well as final drawing layout. The drawing below presents the layout of reinforcement fora beam with a technological notch.

    The following rules will apply while defining reinforcement:

    any icon symbol means that the relevant icon is pressed with the left mouse button,

    {x} stands for selection of the x option in the dialog box,

    d indicates entering the d text in the command line of the program and pressing the Enter button,

    LMC and RMC - abbreviations for the Left Mouse button Click and the Right Mouse button Click.

    To start work in the Robot CAD program (RC part) the user should press the icon located onthe computer desktop or select the command from the START menu. After a moment the Aut oCADprogram augmented with the options enabling preparation of reinforcement drawings (extended menu,additional toolbar, the Object Inspectordialog box, etc.) will run.
