Introduction
Atmanirbhar Bharat or Self-reliant India by 2022 is the vision of
new India
envisaged by the Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. In
order to
commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Indian Independence, we
are
celebrating Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav. ICAR-Indian Agricultural
Research
Institute, New Delhi has old legacy of developing many
nutri-products in
the area of nutrition and by developing biofortified crops for
uplifting the
nutritional status of majority of Indian population. Division
of
Biochemistry, at IARI, is actively involved in developing efficient
protocols
for enhancing nutritional value of food along with the ease of
processing.
The recent additions are pearl millet and maize flour based;
Gluten
regenerated products: Hallur & Makai with improved dough
making
qualities, good for baking industry. This not only diversify our
food basket,
but also pay returns to the farmers. Division of Genetics along
with Division
of Biochemistry has developed Nutri-green kit: Tiny Fields – a
concept of
growing nutri-rich microgreens at household or MSME levels.
The
diversification of having microgreens of vegetable, millets, pulses
and
cereals were optimized with their nutritional profiling.
Division of Biochemistry is known for his Human resource and
capacity building in different areas of nutrition, basic research
and present
workshop cum Hands-on-Training has been planned for the
students,
researchers and entrepreneurs for providing the training on
recently
developed nutri-products like Tiny Fields, Hallur & Makai.
Detailed hands-
on-training is being organized along with lectures by eminent
scientists in
order to build confidence among the young mind for taking care of
their
health as well as of their income.
