National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Hyderabad is an "Institute of

National Importance" with the proclaimed objective of becoming Centre of Excellence for advanced

Learning & Research in Pharmaceutical Sciences. NIPER-Mohali was the first institute established in

the year 1998 under the aegis of Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers,

the Govt. of India. Later, the DOP established 6 new NIPERs across the country including NIPER-

Hyderabad which started functioning from 19th October 2007, from the premises of erstwhile R&D

Centre of IDPL, Balanagar, Hyderabad. Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyderabad, a

premier CSIR Research Laboratory, is the Mentor Institute for NIPER, Hyderabad. The main objective

of the institute is to offer 2 year post graduate courses in seven disciplines Viz., M.S. (Pharm.),

M.Tech. (Pharm.) and M.B.A (Pharm.), courses along with PhD programmes.

The institute started with 3 disciplines viz., Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology & Toxicology and

Pharmaceutical Analysis in the year 2007. Subsequently 4 new courses were added - Pharmaceutics

(2009), M.B.A (Pharm.) (2011) and Regulatory Toxicology and M.Tech. - Process Chemistry (2013).

PhD programme in this institute commenced from academic year 2011-12 in 4 disciplines (Medicinal

Chemistry, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Pharmaceutical Analysis and Pharmaceutics).

NIPER-Hyderabad has excellent Laboratory facilities and the facilities extended by IICT (Mentor

Institute) are useful to update the knowledge and exposure of the students to various advanced

techniques essential for Drug Discovery & Development Research. Many of the NIPER students carry

out dissertation work in National research institutes and reputed Pharma Companies. NIPER-Hyderabad

regularly conducts several National / International Seminars / Workshops. This enables the NIPER

students to get an exposure to the advanced research in Pharmaceutical Sciences. NIPER also invites

experts from various industries and academia to deliver talks on several topics of importance. NIPER

takes special care to develop the student's communication, personality and aptitude skills by organising

special lectures by experts.

One of the objectives of NIPER-Hyderabad is the development of Human Resources for the ever

growing Indian Pharmaceutical Industry. NIPER-Hyderabad is on the forefront in placement activities

with almost 80% students getting placed in various pharma companies every year. It maintains about

1:8 faculty student ratio. Some of the faculty members have received prestigious awards like OPPI

Young Scientist Award from Organization of Pharmaceutical Procedures of India for 2010, 2011, 2012

and IDMA Young Pharma Analyst Award from Indian Drugs & Manufacturers Association (IDMA) for

the year 2011 & 2014. NIPER-Hyderabad is being developed as a National Centre to cater to the

needs of pharmaceutical industry and academia.

NIPER Hyderabad started in October 2007 with the intention to

provide high quality education & research in Pharmaceutical

Sciences. Taking NIPER Mohali as a role model, it is involved in

creating future pharmaceutical professionals and considered to be

the Institute of National Importance. Indian Institute of Chemical

Technology (IICT) Hyderabad being a mentor institute has accepted

the task to develop NIPER Hyderabad into a model institute, which

meets the needs of the present pharmaceutical industries by

providing the necessary talent pool. Every year students get admitted

to this institute through a nation-wide open entrance examination

(NIPER-JEE) conducted by NIPER Mohali. NIPER Hyderabad is investing all efforts to implement the

‘International Standards’ and to create this institute with the global standards. NIPER Hyderabad is in

the process of establishing modern laboratories with sophisticated instruments and library. NIPER

Hyderabad has taken all care to train the students under the guidance of renowned Professors/

Scientists from Industries/Universities, Central Research labs for doing their dissertation work in

addition to the highly qualified NIPER faculty. Highly qualified faculty and staff have been inducted to

guide the students to meet their academic excellence. The results of earlier batches of NIPER

Hyderabad (2007-12) and their placement in reputed pharmaceutical organizations reflects the sincere

efforts of NIPER Hyderabad faculty and indispensable support of mentor institute, IICT Hyderabad.

Assistant Professor

Her area of research interest is synthesis of biologically active

molecules. She has worked on the total synthesis of

Cyclamenol-A an anti inflammatory agent isolated from

streptomyces species. It is a polyene macrolactum with seven

double bonds of which only one is cis and the rest are trans

double bonds. She has also worked on the development of

some novel methodologies using Yb(OTf)3 , montmorillonite

clay etc.

Her area of research interest is synthesis of new and stable

drug carriers, enzymatic kinetics and enzyme production and

Drugs; Method development and validation for Drugs and Pharmaceuticals.

Dr. N. Satheesh Kumar

Assistant Professor

His area of research interests are drug analysis, drug stability and drug metabolism.

Method development for drug analysis includes determination of drug metabolites

in different biological matrices. HPLC, LC/MS techniques are employed in analyzing

drug concentrations in various biological matrices. New specific HPLC methods are

being developed for determination impurities and decomposition products in

different pharmaceutical preparation.

Animal cell culture and its application for cell based drug assays; Screening Indian biodiversity

Dr. Ashutosh Kumar

His area of research interests are Pharmacological Screening, Diabetes and diabetic complications

research; Animal models of diabetes (Type I - Streptozotocin and Type II – HFD+STZ model) and

Chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy(CIPN). He has worked on Pharmacological

interventions targeted at oxidative stress, PARP and inflammation cascades and trying to identify

pathophysiological mechanisims leading to peripheral neuropathy. His group utilizes modern

molecular techniques to identify various factors involved in etiology of many forms of

neuropathy viz. diabetic neuropathy, CIPN and neuropathy due to trauma/injury.
