Martin Enterprises hosted its seventh annual Business Appreciation Day on October 14. The Business appreciation Day is the day we express our gratitude to individuals, area businesses, and agencies that support Martin Enterprises’ Mission. We invited businesses who hired our
clients, those who provided sub-contract work to us, and agencies who provided support services to our clients. Martin Enterprises’ very own staff catered the event. “Walk of Fame” cookies were made by Aimie’s Sweet Treats. Lisa Jordan of Faux and More decorated and
designed the event. Pictures were taken by Celeste Stephens of Celeste Stephens Photography. Limousine service was provided by K and Q’s Limo Service. Area businesses and individuals donated lots of wonderful door prizes. This year’s theme was “The Oscars”. The event was a
great success.

All of us at Martin Enterprises would like to extend a big
“Thank You” to one of our clients and his family for catering a
delicious birthday lunch for us on October 21st. One of our
clients decided that he wanted to celebrate his birthday by
having a big birthday lunch with all of his co-workers. So, his
family generously catered a terrific meal for everyone, here at
our facility. We thoroughly enjoyed grilled pork tenderloin,
grilled chicken breast, broccoli and cheese casserole, mashed
potatoes and gravy, green beans and rolls and most definitely
enjoyed celebrating with this client for his birthday! Thanks so
much for including us in your party and Happy Birthday!!!
VR Services continued to reach great heights for the fourth quarter. Workers were recognized each month
through the Outstanding Worker of the Month award. Recipients were chosen based on attendance,
behavior, production, and their ability to stay on task. They were awarded an Outstanding Worker of the
Month certificate, 50 tokens that could be redeemed in our Rewards Gallery store, and a free meal ticket.
Outstanding Worker of the Month
Clients were provided with Work Place Violence training at the November client meeting by Production
Manager, Eric Manning. The signs of potential work place violence and how to handle various situations
were presented in a slide show. Manning encouraged clients to use good judgment and to remember
safety first when a situation at work poses a potential threat.
For the quarterly success outing in December, participants joined CAP, Psychosocial Rehab, and ADVP
clients to visit Williamston Rehabilitation for caroling. Joy To The World, Silent Night, and We Wish
You a Merry Christmas were picked for the serenade.
Eleven Work Adjustment Clients were placed this quarter. Two Community Based Assessments were
started at Aramark of Lewiston. Community Based Assessments were also completed at Roberson
Brothers of Williamston and The Martin County Aging Center. We are well on our way to another
successful year. We thank all businesses that contributed and extend congratulations to each worker for
their success. If your company has positions available and needs them filled, please call us at (252) 792-
8251. We look forward to working with you in the future. (Clockwise) “Tyra Banks,” “Jennifer Hudson,” Emcee, John Moore, “Oprah,” “Adele,”

A Festive Time of Year for ARC and UCP Group Homes
For the month of October, clients celebrated Halloween by attending the Jamboree Halloween
Party. There were clowns, vampires, ninjas and one of our clients dressed up as an ATM
machine. Everyone enjoyed great food, dancing and socializing. To cap off the event one of
our very own clients won the Halloween Best Dressed contest. November was a very busy
month it was practice, practice, and more practice. The clients were busy preparing for the big
bowling tournament held in Raleigh. Everyone felt like winners after bringing home silver
medals. Even after the tournament there was no time for rest because they had to rehearse for
the Christmas play that was coming up soon. In December, clients and staff held their annual
Christmas party. Clients’ families help them celebrate this joyous occasion. Clients entertained
everyone by singing Christmas carols, reading poems, and explaining the meaning of
Christmas. Everyone enjoyed great food, and a door prize give-away. It was a fun-filled time
for all. All of the clients and staff from ARC and UCP Group Homes hopes that everyone had
a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Martin Enterprises Celebrates
the Holiday Season
It’s been a very busy holiday season for all of us at Martin Enterprises! We
kicked off the season by having a “Spirit Week” the week before Halloween. All
of the clients and staff dressed for a different theme each day of the week, which
led up to a fun Halloween carnival complete with food, games, prizes and
costume contests. The clients competed in many different games for prizes
In November, clients and staff created a beautiful snowman Christmas tree
to enter in the 1st Annual Festival of Trees event sponsored by the Martin County
United Way. After some fierce bidding, Amber Manning won the tree. Our tree
received the highest bid and many people wanted it. But there could only be one
winner and Amber Manning prevailed. Congratulations Amber and thank you for
your bid. Clients also participated in a talent contest before their Thanksgiving
break. They all auditioned and practiced before the contest and it showed. We
were entertained by singers, dancers, poets, artists, and even models. Everyone
was impressed with the clients’ creativity and the work that they put into their
performances. The judges had the difficult task of scoring each performance so
that we would have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.
The clients spread Christmas cheer by caroling at two of the local nursing
homes in December. They practiced their carols and delivered an excellent
performance at both homes by singing up and down the halls of each facility.
Staff at ME also developed a Christmas Family Feud game for the clients. All of
the questions were related to Christmas traditions and everyone seemed to enjoy
the game show atmosphere as teams competed to win. Finally, the clients
enjoyed fellowshiping and exchanging presents at the Christmas party.

The Psychosocial Rehabilitation Department was busy during the
fourth quarter. In October, the clients learned how to carve pumpkins to
make jack-o-lanterns. Staff demonstrated to the clients the procedures
of carving pumpkins and the clients assisted. They learned the origin of
the name jack-o-lantern. Clients participated in a Healthy Boundaries
class for six weeks. They learned how to deal with various boundaries
that are faced everyday. The class was successful and clients really
enjoyed learning new information to help them cope with everyday
challenges. Clients helped decorate for the Halloween Carnival.
Everybody wore costumes, played games and competed to win great
prizes. They were extremely excited about participating in our annual
Business Appreciation Day posing as “fans” asking for autographs.
This year’s theme was “The Oscars”. It was a star studded event with
all the glitz and glamour and everyone had a ball!
In November, staff and clients attended the town’s annual Veteran’s
Day Parade. They learned why the men and women who served in the
military were being honored. They did various crafts for Thanksgiving
and participated in a luncheon provided by Martin Enterprises. In
December, they participated in decorating the Christmas tree, did a
variety of paper Mache, and crafts such as: Christmas trees, Santa, and
angels. Everyone exchanged names for secret Santa. They also joined
ADVP/CAP clients in caroling at local assisted living facilities. This
fourth quarter for the clients was full of fun and they were busy like
bees making others lives a little sweeter.
