Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appearsfor a little time and then vanishes away. (James 4:14)

Our life is like a vapor that dissipates. God is

the only One that can make our mist todissipate or to remain. So how could weplan ahead without keeping Him in mind?

Those who dont keep God in mind whenplanning ahead are lifting themselves up

above the law (just like the gossipers). Theythink they are their own judges, like theycould control their lives.

The word James used (vapor ormist) is the same Solomon usedin all is vanity. (Ecclesiastes 1:2)

Instead you ought to say, If the Lord wills, we shall live anddo this or that. But now you boast in your arrogance. All such

boasting is evil. Therefore, to him who knows to do good anddoes not do it, to him it is sin. (James 4:15-17)

Boasting and arrogance are used to describe self-sufficiency. That arrogance is evil. As Christians, wemust reject evil.

James also described sin. Sin is the transgression ofthe law (1 John 3:4). But there is also a passivesin; knowing good and not doing it.

The law of God condemns not only what wehave done but what we have not done. We will,in the day of final accounts, find a register of

the sins of omission as well as the sins ofcommission.

Each morning consecrate yourselves and yourchildren to God for that day. Make nocalculation for months or years; these are notyours. One brief day is given you. As if it wereyour last on earth, work during its hours for theMaster. Lay all your plans before God, to becarried out or given up, as His providence shallindicate. Accept His plans instead of your own, even though their acceptance requires theabandonment of cherished projects. Thus thelife will be molded more and more after thedivine example; and the peace of God, whichpasseth all understanding, shall keep yourhearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

    Philippians 4:7.
