ABOUT TECHNOLOGY IN GOVERNMENT
ANEESH CHOPRA
Not many people get the privilege of using Barack Obama as a reference. Calling the work he did while at the White House “ground-breaking”, the US President credits Aneesh with bringing the government into the 21st century.
In his first Keynote in Australia, Aneesh will talk experiences and insights gained from acting as the first CTO of the United States. Using his 2014 book ‘Innovative State: How new technologies can transform government’ as the pillar stone, the analytics expert will focus on how we can tap entrepreneurial problem solvers to address challenges in health, energy and education markets among other public and regulated sectors.
This is an opportunity not to be missed in what promises to be a thrilling and inspiring session. And you’ll get the chance to ask Aneesh direct questions when he takes to the sofa for a special post-keynote Q&A.
JAMES DUNCAN
With his own web-computing cloud service acquired by Joyent in 2009, James has an impressive back-ground in technology start-ups and innovation.
Not surprising then, that as well as being CTO of the UK’s Public Service Network (PSN), he provides advice on technology and start-up culture and mentors startups through accelerator programmes.
Since taking on the role of CTO of the PSN, which sits under the Cabinet Office, James has made tracks in simplifying the department’s outputs and creating a clear understanding of what the PSN does, with a huge emphasis on the user-need.
Restoring user-need is the key to getting successful government programs off the ground he says. But what is it? Find out when James delivers the closing Keynote right before our annual networking drinks function on day one of the Summit.
ROSIE JESSOP
Security policy in the British government has been undergoing a huge set of changes with the introduction of the new Government Security Classifications in April 2014.
Rosie’s work is instrumental in designing modern approaches to information assurance, and in establishing the foundations for security practices that meet the user need. Not only in today’s technology environment, but tomorrow’s as well.
Having begun her career as a researcher in neuroscience, a fascination with technology led Rosie into consulting at Accenture. After working with a number of clients in the Energy sector to solve their business and technology problems, she joined the Cabinet Office as the Office of the CTO’s Head of Security in February 2014.

MEET THE SPEAKERS
JANE KING
Reinventing the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is no mean feat but the departments new CIO has plenty of background knowledge and experience to set her in the right direction.
Having inherited the role from Bill Gibson in November 2014, Jane knows the ATO’s processes and culture since her time as Deputy Commissioner, Customer Services & Solutions. A position she held since 2007, Jane managed the contact centre network of around 1500 seats across eight sites and oversaw the customer service strategy, which is a corner-stone of the ATO’s new reinvention program.
Now responsible for Enterprise Solutions and Technology, with around 1800 staff and substantial outsourcing contracts, she is tasked with enabling the efficient and effective delivery of enterprise solutions and technology services supporting the business agenda.
She’ll discuss the strategic roadmap ahead for future customer experiences in her day one session at the Summit.
DR MARIA MILOSAVLJEVIC
A highly respected and well known public sector technology leader, Maria is making her Technology in Government debut at this years’ Summit. 2015 has already seen her highly praised for her Fusion project at the Australian Crime Commission (ACC), where partnerships and data sharing are a top focus going forward. It seems natural then that her session at the Summit will look at automating decision making using analytics and other AI Technology – sure to be a riveting and detailed presentation showing how government as whole can benefit from an automation culture.
Maria’s work at the ACC leads the Information Branch which manages information from entry to exit, ensuring that it is available, secure, exploited and disseminated to achieve outcomes for the ACC and our partners.
SIMON ANDREWS
In an exclusive-TechinGov session, this year’s ITNews CIO of the year will regale the Summit with the ‘how’ and the ‘why’ of the job that won him the accolade.
The Zero Touch Project, led by Simon, saw the successful transfer of ING Direct’s entire computing, network and storage infrastructure to a private cloud. The first financial institution in Australia to carry out the feat, ING Direct can now focus more on delivering customer function and less on managing technology.
This is a unique and fantastic opportunity to get the inside scope of one of the private sectors most talked about IT projects in 2015. We’re delighted to welcome Simon Andrews and ING Direct to the agenda.

Group Chief Executive—Accenture Digital
Mike Sutcliff is group chief executive of Accenture Digital, which integrates digital assets, software and services across digital marketing, analytics and mobility to help clients drive growth and create new sources of value.
In his role, Mr. Sutcliff focuses on leveraging the full breadth and scale of Accenture’s cloud, systems integration and enterprise application capabilities—and its global delivery network—to help clients integrate digital into all facets of their organizations to transform their businesses.
Specifically, he speaks to clients, media and industry analysts to position the digital difference and the opportunities it brings to improved business performance. Mr. Sutcliff sees two major themes driving the digital market: Digital Customers, Channels, and Markets, including designing and enabling improved multi-channel customer experiences, digital customer interactions, digital sales, and digital channel distribution capabilities; and Digital Enterprise, enabling new operating models and business processes, connected product platforms, analytics and collaboration capabilities to enhance productivity.
He oversees a global team of 23,000 people who provide a comprehensive portfolio of business and technology services, from developing digital strategies to implementing digital technologies and running digital processes on behalf of clients. Mr. Sutcliff is also a member of Accenture’s Global Management Committee.
Prior to assuming his current role, Mr. Sutcliff was senior managing director of Accenture’s Financial Services business in North America, with broad responsibility for the group’s strategy, client relationships and financial performance. Between 2000and 2005, he led Accenture’s Finance & Performance Management global service line.
Mr. Sutcliff joined Accenture in 1987 and was named a partner in 1999. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical/computer engineering and a master of science degree in business from the Georgia Institute of Technology..
What are they?Roundtables are small group discussions focused on a particular topic and directed by a central table host who will guide the conversation and facilitate the questions and answers from the participants.
This is not death by power-point –the emphasis is on the discussion and debate among the 20 or so delegates sharing the table at any given time. Swap war stories, ask questions, gain a better understanding and then put it all into practice back in the office.
How will they work?Running in three rotations for 40 minutes, delegates will have the opportunity to pre-select which tables they would like to attend ahead of the event.
And with three time slots to pick from, there is something for everything to choose from build their own agenda – covering the issues and topics that matter most to you and your enterprise today.

4:35 Big Data in the cloud era - the government imperative
Gavin Jones, Managing Director, Australia & New Zealand, Pivotal Software
5:00 INTERNATIONAL KEYNOTE: What is the user need?
Often, programmes in government find that they have lost track of their purpose. They take on a life of their own through inertia, bureaucracy, or simply that people lose sight of the problem they are trying to solve. Repeatedly, we fail to ask “What does the user need?” That is especially true with infrastructure like data centres and networks. James will talk about some of the challenges faced and lessons learned from programmes like the British Government’s Crown Hosting Service, and the Public Service Network, and how restoring a focus on the user need has helped those programmes get off the ground, or get back to delivering the outcomes that are needed.

Senior representative, Office of the CIO, Department of Defence
9:35 Can government agencies keep up with the demand for mobility?
Mobile device use is widespread across the public sector. GCN research has found that nearly half of all government employees use mobile devices and regularly use multiple mobile computing platforms – an average of 2.5 devices – to do their jobs. Agency employees are on the go now more than ever before, away from their offices, traveling on official business, inspecting projects or simply taking part in agency-sponsored telework programs. There’s little doubt that mobility helps public sector agencies meet their missions but how will IT maintain control and protect sensitive data? In this session find out how to meet the growing demand for mobility while still maintaining control.
