TeachersnotescreatedbyDanceEducationalConsultantReneePlaceThisresourceisdesignedtogiveteachersandstudentsanexclusiveinsightintothecreationandperformanceofExpressionsDanceCompany2018seasonof4SeasonsatthePlayhouse,QPAC.TheinformationandlearningexperiencesalignswithtothecurrentSeniorDanceSyllabus(2010),theupcomingGeneralSeniorDanceSyllabus(2019)andtheAustralianCurriculum.Eachactivitycanbeadaptedtosuittheneeds,agegroupandexperiencelevelofyourclass.Thelearningexperiencescanbefollowedsequentiallyorasindividualactivitiesusedinisolationtooneanother.Weaimtoprovideteachersandstudentswithauniqueperspectiveonthecreationofthework,tofurthertheirunderstandingofchoreographicprocessandhowthistranslatesintoperformance.ThisresourcealsoprovidesexampleAppreciationandChoreographytasks,whichcouldbeusedasstimulusforassessmenttasksafterviewingtheperformance.
Contemporarychoreographyandchoreographicdevelopment,performanceandappreciation4Seasonsprovidesstudentstheopportunitytoenhancetheirunderstandingandappreciationofthecontemporarydancegenreandobserveworld-classprofessionaldancers.InterpretationsoftheseasonsEachchoreographerhasinterpretedthefourseasonsdifferently.KristinaChanaddresseshowtheseasonsarebeingimpactedbyclimatechange,whileDominicWong’sworkexploresthenotionofseasonswithinanurbancontext.Finally,throughaseriesofduets,NatalieWeir’spiecedrawsparallelsbetweenSpring,Summer,AutumnandWinterandthestagesoflifeandlove.Culturalperspectives(Asia/Australia)ThisproductionfeaturesworksbyAustralianandChinesechoreographersanddancers.Studentscanidentify,compareandcontrastAsianandAustralianapproachestothechoreography.

WELCOMEFROMNATALIEWEIR
TheChineseAustralianDanceExchangeProjectismorethanjustadanceexchange.Itisanexchangeofideasandanintertwiningofcultures,withanenormousamountofgenerosityandrespectbetweeneveryoneinvolved.Thisinitiative,partofEDC’songoingstrategytoengageincrossculturalcollaboration,seesEDCpartnerwiththreeChinesecontemporarydancecompanies–GMDCin2016,Beijing/LDTXin2019andthisyear,2018,CityContemporaryDanceCompany(CCDC).Thisground-breakingexchangehasgrownfrommygreatrespectforWillyTsao,whoisapioneerforthedevelopmentofmoderndanceinChina.The4Seasonsprogramwasdevelopedinthreeparts.InOctober2017EDCtravelledtoHongKongforthreeweeksforthecreationofmywork,4Seasons,acollaborativepiecewith14dancersfromCCDCand6dancersfromEDC.FromApril23thisyear,DominicWong,AssistantArtisticDirectorofCCDC,cametoBrisbanefor4weekscreatingDayAfterDayfortheEDCdancers,whilstchoreographerKristinaChanhasatthesametimebeeninHongKongcreatingSummerforCCDC.Presentedasatriple-bill,4Seasonswillillustratehoweachchoreographerhasinterpretedtheseasonsinverydifferentways.Ithinkasanaudienceitisexcitingtoseethewaythatdifferentchoreographerscanapproachatheme,witheachworkbeingverydifferent,yettiedtogether.LightingdesignforthetriplebillisbyLawmanray,averystrikingdesign,andcostumesarebyCindyHoPui-shan,whohascapturedtheessenceofeachworkandthedancersbeautifully.
