MUSIC FUN FACT

Multiple studies have been conducted that prove singing as a part of a group provides numerous physical and emotional benefits. Researchers have discovered that singing is soothing and does indeed raise one's spirits and mood. When you sing with others, the body releases feel-good hormones, like oxytocin, and reduces stress-causing ones, like cortisol.

MUSIC FUN FACT

Perhaps head-banging is an effective

way to keep warm. According to a

Reddit user who created a map using

data from Encyclopedia Metallum's

archive of metal bands, Finland is

home to the most bands of this genre,

with 53.5 metal bands per 100,000

people. Second place was tied

between two other Nordic nations

Sweden and Norway (27.2), while

Iceland stole third (22.7).

MUSIC FUN FACT

Mozart sold the most CDs in 2016, beating Adele, Drake and Beyoncé, even though all of those artists had

Grammy-winning hits that year.

MUSIC FUN FACT "Jingle Bells" is a Christmas classic, but it didn't originate that way. Written by James Lord Pierpont and published in 1857, it was meant to be sung during Thanksgiving. The song's original title was "One Horse Open Sleigh" then it was changed to "Jingle Bells”, or “One-Horse Open Sleigh" when it was reprinted in 1859.

DID YOU KNOW?

Most orchestras consist of musical instruments, like trumpets, flutes, etc. But not this orchestra!

An orchestra in Austria (The Vegetable Orchestra, also known as Das Erste Wiener Gemüseorchester, The First Vienna Vegetable Orchestra or The Vienna Vegetable Orchestra) plays music…But the musical instruments are made from veggies!

That’s right: an orchestra that has carrots, potatoes and others. Weird!

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

The EMF committee is delighted to present the 2021 Esperance Music Festival after having to cancel the event last year due to the COVID pandemic. We hope that participants gain much from being able to perform in front of a sympathetic audience and receive constructive advice and feedback from a professional adjudicator. Grateful thanks must go to the small group of volunteers who form our committee without whose invaluable contribution the festival would not happen. Thanks also to the newly formed Friends of the Festival who support the committee throughout the year. As well there is a generous group of parents, family and friends who contribute in many ways to assist in the running of the festival. It has been a pleasure to welcome Mr Paul Sealey as our adjudicator this year. We appreciate his efforts, knowledge, wisdom and constructive advice throughout the festival. We appreciate very much the financial support of our two major sponsors: The Shire of Esperance and IGO as well as the continued support of AMEB WA. It has been wonderful to have so many performers sharing their impressive talent with us as well as you, the audience, for being so warm, gracious and generous with your applause and encouragement of all our performers over the three days of the festival. Thank you all, Irene Melbourne President on behalf of The EMF Committee

ATTENTION, ATTENTION!! Next year will be the

50th Esperance Music Festival! Start practising now!!!
