This Whistler residence is more work of art than building, and is without equal in the Sea to Sky Corridor. Envisioned by the owners and brought to life by architect Brent Murdoch builder Glen Lynskey, the multilevel home was a finalist for the award of Custom Single Family Residence for the prestigious Georgie Awards.
Inspired by the rugged landscape of the Coast Mountains the owner’s used the profile of the Stawamus Chief Mountain to form the lines of the house, echoing the unique outline of the granite monolith in elements including interior doors and the stonework of the outdoor fireplace. No expense was spared to source unique and visually stunning wood, rock, glass and metal finishes to capture the raw and elemental nature of the mountains within the walls.
Within the structure local and exotic materials create contrast, with locally sourced Brohm stone and basalt pairing with Pennsylvania Bluestone and Beaumaniere French Limestone, while edge grain fir from British Columbia harmonizes with specialty timbers including Brazilian Cherry. Stainless steel

accents and appliances add a sharp, modern edge and are a unifying force throughout the home.
The interior is simply breathtaking. Stained glass windows and door panels by renowned glass artist Brian Baxter provide jewelled flashes of light that change throughout the day, with the same colours incorporated into the handmade floor coverings. Every living space has been created with precision and purpose, from the master suite with treehouse view to the sunken living room with purlin and beam ceiling and the wide front deck built to capture all day sun, while custom furniture fashioned by master craftsmen compliments the elegant lines and materials of the building throughout.
The dining area is surrounded by glass on three sides and opens onto a wide Bluestone terrace with sculptural outdoor fireplace - a grand space in which to entertain guests in all seasons. The practical aspects of the building have also been attended to with care, with a chef’s kitchen boasting multiple islands and prep station, high end audio and lighting systems throughout, elevator access to the ski room, ample storage and additional floor and heated exterior heated terraces and driveways. Located on a secluded lane in the exclusive Benchlands neighbourhood of Whistler with a private ski-in from Blackcomb Mountain and close proximity to Whistler Village, the home is perfectly placed to enjoy the best of resort life.

exterior• The interior and exterior beams are made from fir trees grown locally and microwave kiln dried to
prevent cracking or checking, as a result there has been no twisting or settlement.• The exterior has heated terraces and driveway with separate control zones, large overhangs protect
exterior walls and windows so heating is not needed on terraces but is an option.• Backs on to Queens Land providing an intimate and private setting, while also being serviced by a
private ski-home run.• The exterior walls are made with locally harvested Brohm stone, these walls are repeated inside the
house with floor to ceiling Brohm stone walls in the living room and foyer. • Front decks, mountainside terrace, exterior front entry stairs and landings, and top of driveway outside
garage are all Pennsylvania Bluestone.
interior• The large horizontal fir panel that runs the perimeter of the living room that was made using one tree
and milled locally.• The floors and stairs are made from Brazilian Cherry, (we paid extra for the environmental stamp), the
living room floor to ceiling fireplace showcases Brazilian Cherry panels with lighted reveal lines and stained glass inserts.
• The commissioned custom stairs were designed to resemble a hanging hiking bridge.• Custom stained glass was commissioned by Brian Baxter to highlight both colors and angles that are
repeated throughout the house.• Artist Zoe Luyendijk designed Tibetan silk and wool rugs throughout the property and were handmade
in the Katmandu Valley. The designs used fall colours to complement the stained glass window accents.• Intercom system throughout, as well as lift service to 3 floors and music systems in all rooms.• All Cabinetry throughout kitchen and all 7 bathrooms is made from Clear Edge Grain Fir. Interior and exterior
Fir beams are microwave kiln dried and used throughout house for both structure and design. Built-ins and custom furniture in master bedroom and guestrooms are also made from Clear Edge Grain Fir.
• Brazilian Cherry also known as Jatoba, was used for floors, stairs, fireplace panels, and floating staircase and landing. Grand front entry door in foyer is a combination of Brazilian Cherry, Edge Grain Fir, stainless steel inserts and hardware, and stained glass overhead.
• All seven bathrooms are all made with Beaumaniere French Limestone slabs for showers, walls, tub surrounds, and floors. We chose slabs over tiles because there are very few grout lines. Large limestone slabs are used in combination with Edge Grain Fir panels. This limestone is also used for fireplace surrounds, mantles, hearths, in master bedroom, office, and guestrooms.
