    0. DESCRIPT IONAND OPERATION.

    A. PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS.

This actuator consists of a switch and gear housing and adc electric motor. The switch and gear housing contains a jackscrew and torque bar assembly, a gear train, two normally closed limit switches, and a normally closed partial stroke switch. A radio interference filter and an electrical connector are mounted on the housing.

    B. OPERATION.

This actuator converts electrical energy into mechanical linear movement.

    i. DISASSEMBLY. (See figure ii01.)

    .

NOTE : If actuator was removed from service prior to overhaul time and no mechanical fault is evident, functionally test actuator as outlined in TESTING~ prior to disassembly; actuator may not be malfunctioning and may not require overhaul. If actuator is malfunctioning~ functional test will indicate extent of repair or overhaul required.

    A. Disassemble in sequence of index numbers assigned to exploded view~ observing the following.

    B. Do not remove plates (3, 5) or decal (8) unless required after inspection.

    C. ~o not remove terminals (18, 19, 31, 32, 44) from wires unless required after inspection.

    D. Do not remove insulator (81) or bearing (82) from housing (83) unless required after inspection.

    CLEANING. (See figure Ii01.)

    A. Wash all non-electrical parts, except bearings (51, 60, 65, 69, 80), with solvent and dry parts thoroughly with compressed air or a clean, lint-free cloth. (Refer to Table 201.)

    E. Install gear (72) on jackscrew and torque bar (78), using nut (56) and appropriate sleeve to force gear against shoulder of jackscrew and torque bar. Apply a torque of 40 to 60 pound-inches to nut. Remove nut and sleeve.

    F. Drill a 0.0925 to 0.0935 inch diameter hole through hub of gear (72) and jackscrew and torque bar and install pin (71). Centerpunch both ends of pin to lock in place.

    G. Screw end fitting assembly (69, 70) into tube-nut (79). Drill a 0.0925 to 0.0935 inch diameter hole through tube-nut and end fitting, 0.24 to 0.26 inch from end of tube-nut, parallel to centerline of hole in bearing (69). Install pin (67) and peen hole on both ends to lock pin in place.

    H. Install bearing (65) in cover (62), insert shaft of gear assembly (66) into bearing (80), and install assembled bearing (65) and cover (62), using screws (63) and washers (64).

    I. Install washer (57) and nut (56) on end of jackscrew and torque bar (78). Shim nut to align slot with hole in jackscrew and torque bar, using washers (58, 59) as required. Install pin (55).

    J. Shim between bearing (60) and cap (52), using washers (53, 54) as re- quired to obtain a 0.001 to 0.004 inch gap between face of cap (52 ) and cover (62), and install bearing and cap assembly (51, 52), using screws (49) and washers (50).

    K. During assembly of switches (33, 45) and springs (35, 46) on brackets (36, 47), install one spring on each assembly if lack of space prevents installation of two. Shim screws (29, 30, 43) to obtain 0.005 inch maximum end play, using washers (26, 27).

    L. Install switch (41) on plate (42), using screws (39) and lockplate (40). Stake head of each screw two places. Treat screw (37), using locquic and air-dry prior to installation.

Wire connector (ii) to filter assembly (22) in accordance with figure 401, using solder. Route wires from connector through spacer (12, fig- ure ii01) and hole in side of filter assembly.

Install motor (13), using screws (14, 15) and washers (16). Route motor leads through hole in housing (83).

    Install filter assembly (22), using screws (20, 21), terminals (18, 19), and nuts (17).

Install connector (i!), using screws (I0).

Wire actuator in accordance with figure 401, using solder. Make pigtails of motor lead shields; attach both shields to terminal (18). Wrap leads to switch (33) with adhesive tape.

Seal around motor leads where leads enter housing and around leads between filter assembly (22) and connector (ii), using adhesive.

Loosen screw (37), adjust switch so cam (77) just actuates switch, push switch 0.010 closer to cam, and tighten screw (37). Apply thread-locking sealant to screw and allow sealant to harden.

After installation of decal (8), coat edges of decal with varnish.

Install plate (5) with arrows aligned with centerlines of screws (29, 30, 43).
