Earl Cairns is mentioned below, so I will mention a Ganges connection. Earl Cairns was my Captain in 1953. The Earl Cairns mentioned is the 2nd Earl who died in 1890. The Captain, David Cairns, became the 5th Earl in 1946. He ended his career as a Rear Admiral and died in 1989 at the age of 80. This was the family tree. The first Earl had five sons and two daughters. Two of those sons died early and did not inherit. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th Earls were the second born son and his younger brothers, one of who, Wilfred, was David's father. This Earl therefore is David's uncle.
