Regina Scott is the first Black woman to reach the rank of deputy chief with the Los Angeles Police Department. Scott is a New Jersey native and a graduate of West Point Leadership School and the 216th Session of the Federal Bureau of Investigation

National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. She is also the first Black woman to achieve the rank of commander.

Scott joined the LAPD in July 1987 and was on the force when women were never in the upper echelons. “Deputy Chief Regina Scott represents the bright future of our department and our city,” said Chief Michel Moore.

With her 31 years of her experience on the force, she will oversee Los Angeles’s Central Bureau, which the LAPD describes as one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse areas in the city.

According to ABC 7, her advancement is part of a concerted effort by new Police Chief Michel Moore to diversify the upper ranks of the force. And with her years of experience on the force, it was an easily-earned promotion for Scott.

“This promotion is more than just me; it is for those who paved the road before me, and those who dare to dream.” Regina Scott

Tenelle grew up in Carson, California where she was originally a softball player. At the age of 12, she started

taking singing lessons with vocal coach Tim Carter, best known for his work with artists such as Beyoncé and Willow Smith. After graduating from Gardena High School in 2006, Tenelle joined three of her uncles in a band called Chord Brown.

Tenelle started her solo career as a popular regional performer on the West Coast of the United States and in Oceania. She became internationally recognized after the release of her single “Flava” by Grammy nominated artist Meghan Trainor in 2013. The song quickly rose on the iTunes singles chart, even reaching the number 1 spot.

Tenelle’s 2014 single “Get Some” was the most requested song on Honolulu’s contemporary hits station, KCCN-FM. Her debut album “For the Lovers” was released on 10 March 2017 and peaked at number 1 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.

Tenelle has been described by many as “a breath of fresh air.” Her natural beauty and wholesome smile permeates on stage as she captivates listeners with her soulful sultry sound. Tenelle isn’t exactly sure of when her love for singing first started, but suggests that “growing up in Carson, California, with a big family, where talent shows are more competitive than the X-Factor itself, may have well did it!”

Years later she would find herself on that stage performing her #1 hit singles “Flava” and “Get Some” in front of hundreds and thousands of people all over the world including Japan, New Zealand, Australia, the Pacific Islands, and the U.S.

Tenelle has performed and collaborated with fellow Pacific Islander artists such as George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso, Drew Deezy, Adeaze, Anuhea, and Kimie. She has toured in the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, American Samoa, and Samoa.

Uchenna Nwosu is an American football outside linebacker for the Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football

League (NFL). He played college football at USC. Uchenna grew up in Carson (Del Amo Park area). Born in the United States, Nwosu is of Nigerian decent. His proper name is Anon Uchenna Nwosu Jr., passed down from his grandfather. The meaning of Uchenna is

“God’s will.”

A product of Narbonne High just outside Carson in Harbor City, Nwosu said his family placed a high priority on education and he went to nearby USC where he graduated in four years with a degree in political science.

Nwosu attended and played college football at USC under head coaches Steve Sarkisian and Clay Helton. After playing in 12 games during his freshman season, Nwosu was not able to participate in the 2014 Holiday Bowl due to unspecified team rules violations. It was

later reported that Nwosu did not enroll in the following spring semester. Despite speculation that he may leave the team, Nwosu was able to take summer classes and rejoin the team for the 2015 season. After his senior season at USC, Nwosu was named a co-MVP of USC along with quarterback Sam Darnold. He was also on the watchlist for the Butkus Award. Following his senior season, he participated in the 2018 Senior Bowl.

The Los Angeles Chargers selected Nwosu in the second round (48th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. Nwosu was the sixth linebacker drafted in 2018. He will be playing in his hometown of Carson at the temporary home of the Chargers at the StubHub Center. On May 13, 2018, the Los Angeles Chargers signed Nwosu to a four-year contract deal. Nwosu entered training camp slated as a backup outside linebacker. Head coach Anthony Lynn named Nwosu the backup strongside linebacker to start the regular season, behind veteran Kyle Emanuel.

He made his professional regular season debut in the Los Angeles Chargers’ season-opening 38-28 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. On September 16, 2018, Nwosu recorded three combined tackles and made his first career sack during a 31–20 victory at the Buffalo Bills in Week 2. Nwosu made his first career sack on Bills’ quarterback Josh Allenfor a three-yard loss in the first quarter.

As the Chargers made the playoffs, they faced off against the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card round. Nwosu made a critical play at the end of the game, forcing Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson to fumble on what would have otherwise been a potential game winning drive for the Ravens. The Chargers recovered the fumble, sealing a 23–17 win to advance to the Divisional round.
