Our Goal: Services & Infrastructure Support

We support base or foundation (hidden) systems essential for enabling productivity, by providing services, infrastructure, and facilities that support day to day activity.


The KFUPM Mission:

The Mission: KFUPM is an institution of higher learning committed to:

a. Preparing professionals empowered with the knowledge, skills, values and confidence to take a leadership role in the development of the Kingdom in the fields of science, engineering, environmental design and business.

b. Producing research that contributes to the knowledge and sustainable development of the Kingdom and region by providing innovative solutions to identified economic and technical problems and opportunities.

c. Providing a stimulating campus environment for the welfare of its students, faculty and staff, and offering outstanding professional services and out-reach programs to the society at large.

ITC b. To support research ITC is committed to providing and supporting a high performance computing environment via servers, clusters, workstations, enhance NAS (network access storage) and SAN (storage area network) bandwidth to 10s of TeraBytes.

KFUPM c. Providing a stimulating campus environment for the welfare of its students, faculty and staff, and offering outstanding professional services and out-reach programs to the society at large.

ITC c. To support enhance Internet bandwidth, provide WiFi and WiMax (wireless) connectivity that includes open areas, provide efficient utilization of resources, and enhance its gigabit backbone infrastructure.

Resources (Including People, raising competency, arranging training)

Hardware (Servers, Work-Stations, Memory Upgrades, Clusters, High Performance Stations, etc)

Software (Programs, Applications, Configuration, Deployment, and Support)

Our planned and ongoing projects include: WiFi for indoors, WiFi/WiMax for outdoors, ADSL for

homes (can also be made wireless) LapTop distribution and support Training and Competency building of our staff Network Connectivity to all Student Dorms and

Academic Buildings Consolidation of Servers Procurement of High performance machines for

Future with Wireless -- WiMAX

Planned extension with WiMAX Objective is to cover the entire campus, and add life to

our quadrangle (in addition to mobility, flexibility) Will be integrated with current WiFi infrastructure

Plan your teaching/learning and content delivery as if you are already in the campus of the future:

Request for training and learning (monitor the projects at ITC) Try remote desktop from home, laptop (it is addictive) Keep the LapTop in its place (on the lap, not on the table) Use the Wireless Network intensively (try it in the KFUPM Library)

Read/Send eMail with PDAs Try VOIP using Smart Phones Use it for Intranet Services and Internet Access
