40mm x 53 hv-hedp im cartridge with electronic self destruct mechanism Rheinmetall’s new multipurpose 40mm HV-HEDP IM ESD (High Velocity-High Explosive Dual Purpose, insensitive munition, electronic self destruct) cartridge is ideal for engaging and defeating lightly armoured and soft targets. The 40 mm x 53 HEDP IM ESD has a newly developed shape charge cone with a penetration depth of more than 80mm rolled homogeneous armour (RHA) grade K. This is the only 40mm ammunition on the world market with this penetration performance. Additional to the penetration depth the 40 mm x 53 HEDP projectile produces a fragmentation pattern with a per- formance of 40% to 50% greater than the actual In-Service ammunition (e.g. 40 mm x 53 M430). A unique nose fuse incor- porating an electronic self-destruct (ESD) mechanism is opti- mized for high sensitivity detonation against both hard and area targets. This system thereby creates a dud rate signifi- cantly below that of the typical pyrotechnic or spin decay self- destruct mechanism. The 40 mm x 53 HEPD IM ESD is equipped with the unique IM improved RWM propulsion system. The excellent accuracy of the Rheinmetall 40mm HV-HEDP cartridge is a result of its pat- ented, proprietary propulsion unit, in which the cartridge case (including the propelling components) is fastened to the pro- jectile (which contains the copper liner and the explosive charge). At extreme temperatures for instance during fuel fire the RWM 40mm IM improved propulsion system prevents the separation of the projectile and the propulsion unit. The am- munition stays in the box and no live ammunition will be spread around the area. The 40 mm x 53 HEDP IM ESD is equipped with qualified IM explosives. As an additional option, a tracer is available. This tracer has a burn time of six seconds and allows the user to observe the ammunition’s trajectory as it approaches the target. The 40mm HV-HEDP IM ESD grenade is suitable for use in all NATO-stan- dard weapon systems, including the HK GMG, as well as the MK19 and the MK47 grenade launchers.

40mmx53 hv-hedp im cartridge with electronic self destruct mechanism

Rheinmetall’s new multipurpose 40mm HV-HEDP IM ESD (High Velocity-High Explosive Dual Purpose, insensitive munition, electronic self destruct) cartridge is ideal for engaging and defeating lightly armoured and soft targets.

The 40mmx53 HEDP IM ESD has a newly developed shape charge cone with a penetration depth of more than 80mm rolled homogeneous armour (RHA) grade K. This is the only 40mm ammunition on the world market with this penetration performance. Additional to the penetration depth the 40mmx53 HEDP projectile produces a fragmentation pattern with a per-formance of 40% to 50% greater than the actual In-Service ammunition (e.g. 40mmx53 M430). This system thereby creates a dud rate signifi-cantly below that of the typical pyrotechnic or spin decay self-destruct mechanism.

The 40mmx53 HEPD IM ESD is equipped with the unique IM improved RWM propulsion system. The excellent accuracy of the Rheinmetall 40mm HV-HEDP cartridge is a result of its pat-ented, proprietary propulsion unit, in which the cartridge case (including the propelling components) is fastened to the pro-jectile (which contains the copper liner and the explosive charge).
