October 21st-The Intern-Starting a new job can be a difficult chal-

October 28th-The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel-Some British retirees

Today when I visited Mom at the nursing home, I saw Kay. I re-
member her from high school days; both our families lived in the
country and attended Zion church. We go way back. Kay
asked me about the weather, and I said something about it be-
ing beautiful enough to dig the potatoes. Kay said that she
loved to dig potatoes. I kidded her that she still was a farm-girl
at heart. And Kay said, “Some women like manicures and pedi-
cures, but some of us like to dig potatoes.” She said digging po-
tatoes was like going on an Easter-egg hunt and finding a treasure. We both laughed and I
headed out the door pondering the idea that potatoes are an Easter treasure.
Truthfully, I kept putting off digging the potatoes. I would always find something else to do
since this job was not my favorite. But after talking to Kay, she turned what I regarded as
“work” into an opportunity to get outside and play. I arrived home with a smile and ready for
potato fun.
So, Herb got out the shovel, I got the boxes, and we headed out to the potato playground.
He dug, and I gathered up the new potatoes. They were sorted into three groups: Baby Reds,
Yukon Gold, and Russet. Within 45 minutes, we completed this fun-game and had ½ bushel of
each type of potatoes neatly tucked into our root cellar. We both knew this harvest would be
a tasty treasure in the cold of winter.
Thanks, Kay, for your enthusiasm that tweaked my enthusiasm to approach harvesting pota-
toes like a treasure hunt for Easter eggs. I remember my Dad telling me about the winter when
his family only had potatoes to eat for dinner and supper every day. I wonder if potatoes
tasted like a precious treasure then? I know to this day, my Dad loves a good potato.
So, folks…if you are coming to the Ellis home, it is likely that we will serve you Easter potatoes.
Thanks, Kay, for your words of encouragement. Thanks, Herb, for your partnership. And thank
you, God, for a bountiful potato harvest.
Potatoes, Potatoes, Potatoes!
The Slacker
A company, feeling it was time for a shake-up, hired a new CEO. This new boss was deter-
mined to rid the company of all slackers. On a tour of the facilities, the CEO noticed a guy
leaning on a wall. The room was full of workers, so the CEO thought this was his chance to
show everyone he meant business.
The CEO walked up to the guy and asked, “And how much money do you make a week?”
Undaunted, the young fellow looked at him and replied, “I make $200.00 a
week. Why?”
The CEO then handed the guy $200 in cash and screamed, “Here's a week’s
pay. Now GET OUT and don’t come back!”
Feeling pretty good about his first firing, the CEO looked around the room and
asked, “Does anyone want to tell me what that slacker did here?”
With a sheepish grin, one of the other workers muttered, “He was the pizza delivery guy.”

8 l Welcome to The Enrichment Center, Inc.
Open enrollment for Medicare plans in 2020 is October 15 through December 7, 2019. This is
an important time for people with Medicare to review their current Part D prescription drug
plan, take note of any changes, and determine if it is still the best option for them. Since insur-
ance companies can change their Part D plan’s premiums, deductibles and co-pays each
year, switching to a different plan could result in extra money in your pocket!
If you have had changes in your medications this past year it seems obvious that reviewing
your plan and comparing it to other plans is a good idea. But even if you have not had medi-
cation changes, the new pricing structure for the plan could mean that the costs for your
same drugs will increase next year. Likewise, a different company may now offer better cover-
age for those same medications. Some people have saved hundreds of dollars in a year by
switching to a different Part D plan. The only way to find out is to review your plan and com-
pare it to other Part D plans.
In addition to changing the list of medications that they cover (known as their “formulary”)
and how they cover them, Part D plans can also impose drug restrictions on covered medica-
tions. When you are reviewing your plan or comparing it to other plans, be sure to note any
drug restrictions for your specific medications. In some cases, you may need to get prior au-
thorization before your medication is covered. Another type of restriction, step therapy,
means that the insurance company will have you try an alternative drug before they pay for
the one your doctor has chosen for you. And if quantity limits are in place, you are limited to a
certain number of pills each month. These are more reasons it is important to carefully review
your Part D plan each year.
People on SeniorCare, Wisconsin’s prescription drug assistance program, are not affected by
this open enrollment period. They only need to renew their enrollment every 12 months. A re-
newal notice will be sent in the mail to the beneficiary. If you are on SeniorCare and have had
medication changes, you might want to check on the cost of a part D plan to see if Senior-
Care is still the best option for you.
Assistance with plan comparisons is available through the following resources:
1-800-MEDICARE or www.medicare.gov
Medigap helpline 1-800-242-1060
Disability Drug Helpline 1-800-926-4862 (if under age 60)
Wisconsin Medigap Prescription Drug Helpline 1-855-67 PART D (1-855-677-2783)
Amy M. Janecek, Ashland County Elder Benefit Specialist 715-682-4414 Ext. 2.
Another avenue to saving money on prescription drugs next year is the Extra Help program.
Extra Help is a benefit program that reduces your drug costs by decreasing premiums, deducti-
bles and co-pays for medications based on your income and asset levels. If you are married
and your income is less than $2,113 per month with assets below $25,720 or single with an in-
come less than $1,561 per month and assets below $12,890 you may qualify for Extra Help.
Your home and car are not counted as assets. Call Amy M. Janecek, Ashland County Elder
Benefit Specialist, 715-682-4414 Ext. 2 or Marianne Johnson, Bayfield County Elder Benefit Spe-
cialist, 1-715-373-6144 Ext. 83355 for more information.
This fall, take the time to review your Medicare coverage options and check to see if you
might qualify for Extra Help. You just might end up with extra money in 2020!

With the money given we were not only able to purchase a 65 inch flat screen tv and
