YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY

Inaugural Fire Pit Night

Welcome Deacon Rich and Liz Lutomski Father Dan is pleased to introduce you to Deacon Rich and Liz Lutomski, who have moved into St. Mary of the Lakes Parish. Deacon Rich petitioned the Diocese of Trenton and Father Dan to minister as a deacon at St. Mary of the Lakes and his faculties were received last week. Deacon Rich and Liz are lifetime residents of New Jersey. Both were born in Jersey City and attended Sacred Heart School, Jersey City. Rich attended Marist High School in Bayonne and Liz attended St. Michael High School in Union City. Both received their BA degrees in education from Jersey City State College (now New Jersey City University). Rich served as a store manager and computer assisted ordering manager for Pathmark and then transitioned to A&P Supermarkets where he worked as an inventory manager. He then became assistant campus minister at Bishop George Ahr High School, Edison (now St. Thomas Aquinas). Deacon Rich received his certificate in Diaconal ministry from the College of St. Elizabeth, Morristown. He was ordained to the diaconate June 7, 2007 at the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi, Metuchen by Bishop Paul G. Bootkoski. Liz and Rich were members of St. James Parish, Woodbridge but Rich served as a Deacon in St. Cecelia Parish, Iselin. Rich and Liz were married on July 7, 1973. Liz worked as a teacher at Sacred Heart School, South Plainfield and then for Pauline Books and Media in Edison. Liz became Director of Religious Education in St. James Parish, Woodbridge where she served for 14 years. Deacon Rich and Liz lived in Woodbridge for 44 years and recently moved to Mount Laurel to be close to their one daughter Marianne, who lives in Medford with her husband Greg and their three children, twins Avery and Blakely and son Jack, who are also members of St. Mary of the Lakes Parish.

40 DAYS FOR LIFE i i eiu - en i.

PRAY with us this FALL ! From September 23 through November 1, we will pray and fast for the women in danger of undergoing an abortion, for abortion clinic workers, and for the healing of men and women suffering from past abortions. Our goal is to have at least two volunteers praying from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day at the local abortion facility, the Cherry Hill Women’s Center, located at 502 N. Kings Highway. For those who do not want to be there when clients are going in to have abortions, you can still help a great deal in our effort to cover the place in prayer! Sign up to pray there after 3 p.m. any afternoon or on Sundays. Or sign up for Mondays. The staff is there meeting, but no abortions are done that day. Through prayer, penance, and fasting, we can be the hands, heart and voice of Christ. You can park in the lot at Christ Our Light R.C. Church. It is an easy block walk from there to the Cherry Hill Women’s Center. Claire Howson is the contact person for any questions or concerns you may have. You can call or text Claire at 856-313-9861 or send her an email at [email protected]. To sign up for the vigil time you want, please go to www.40daysforlife.com/cherryhill. It is user friendly. i Go cn U t st!n, r!$ !n % Hi 'i()es f+ ,IFE ?

NOW IS THE TIME ! VOTE FOR LIFE ! Some people argue that faith has no place in politics. However, some of the most important movements in our history - the

abolitionist movement, the civil rights movement - were born as religious movements. Defending the inviolable sanctity of human

life from conception to natural death is at the TOP of our Catholic moral convictions. IT IS TIME that Catholics shine a bright line

of separation between themselves and all the politicians who defend the abortion rights regime.

St. Vincent de Paul

Second Collection next Weekend The second collection on September 26 and 27 is for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The St. Mary of the Lakes Conference is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Your generosity enables St. Vincent’s to help men, women, and children with food and financial assistance for housing, auto insurance, utilities, health care, and other expenses. If you donate through Parish Giving, you can include “St. Vincent de Paul” in your list of contributions. Just go to the My Contributions section and select St. Vincent de Paul from the drop down menu. On September 27, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Vincent de Paul, who in in 1617 was touched by the spiritual poverty of people in the French countryside. While undergoing his own personal conversion, he encouraged others to change their lives from within and to help people around them who had material needs. Inspired by this example, Blessed Frédéric Ozanam and some of his friends at the University of Paris began an organization in 1833 that would become the worldwide Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

One of the largest charitable organizations in the world, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a nonprofit, Catholic lay organization of men and women who come together to grow spiritually and offer person-to-person service to those in need.

If you or someone you know needs assistance, call St. Vincent’s

at 609-953-0021.

PRACTICE PATIENCE Tuesday, September 29 / 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

With the demands of everyday life, our many responsibilities and tendency to be overwhelmed by stress, we can find

ourselves short on patience. If you would like to become a more patient person, (or if others would like you to be J)

please come and enjoy this morning retreat. Donation: $25, includes lunch.

DISCERNMENT & DECISION-MAKING Wednesday, September 30 / 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

This evening will focus on the difference between discerning God’s will and simply making decisions from our own point of view. Using the discernment process of St. Ignatius, we will become acquainted with seven steps that help us pray through important decisions to include God and discover

God’s will for the furthering of God’s Kingdom, not our own. Do you have a big decision ahead of you? Donation: $15,

includes materials.

Knights of Columbus Charity Golf Tournament Needs Your Support to Help the Less Fortunate

The Knights of Columbus are hosting their 13th annual charity golf tournament on Monday, October 26, at Medford Village Country Club.. One of this year’s beneficiaries is Medford’s Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization that allows women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering. During the last fiscal year, the Medford Conference helped more than 12,700 men, women, and children with spiritual assistance and food, clothing, financial help for rent and mortgage, auto insurance, utilities, health care and other expenses valued at about $500,000. Outreach included more than 2,350 telephone calls, 623 food deliveries, and 171 home visits. Tax-deductible sponsorship opportunities (see previous page) are available for businesses and individuals. Golf registration is open for 136 golfers ($150, or $165 after Sept. 21) and includes greens fee, golf cart, continental breakfast, beverages on the course, and dinner. The tournament is a scramble format and begins with a shotgun start at 11:00 a.m. Sponsorships and golf registrations for the June date (rescheduled because of the quarantine) will be honored for the October 26 event.

To serve as a sponsor or to register for golf, contact Don Bouchard at [email protected] or 609-654-8853 or 609-760-8932.

A Coronavirus Prayer Jesus Christ, you traveled through towns and villages

“curing every disease and illness.” At your command, the sick were made well. Come to our aid now, in the midst of

the global spread of the coronavirus, that we may experience your healing love. Be with the doctors, nurses, researchers and all medical professionals who seek to heal and help those affected and who put themselves at risk in the process. May they know your protection and peace. May victims regain their strength and health through

quality medical care. Heal us from our fear. Stay by our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow. Be with those who have died from the virus. May they be at rest with

you in your eternal peace. Hear our prayer, O Divine Physician. Hear our prayer.

Amen.

Act of Spiritual Communion Prayer My Jesus,

I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite

myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.

Lord, when did I see you sick? The message from the lips of Jesus is clear, “Amen I say to you, whenever

you did this for the least of My brethren, you did it for Me.”

(Matthew 25:40) We often reflect on how we might reach out to others in the love of God. Virtua Health is inviting you to find out opportunities we offer to touch the lives of our Catholic patients who are sick and hospitalized. We currently have a phone call ministry in which you will be able to do just that. As part of this ministry you would reach out by phone and offer a listening ear and, if they are open to it, lend support, pray, or even lead the patient in a Spiritual Communion prayer. We provide training for you. If you think you would have the time (about 2 hours one day a week) to make calls and to be there for others, please contact: Chaplain Marge McGinley, Pastoral Care Department at

[email protected] or 609-914-6365.
