Key issues for this workshop and beyond

Do we have a good ADS-B implementation programme in Europe which is compatible with those in the US, Australia and elsewhere and is up to the requirements for ASAS?

Is ASAS correctly positioned in SESAR and Next Gen?

New airborne separation standards?

SESAR and NextGen

Both describe ASAS applications for spacing, sequencing and merging, and for cooperative separation.Self-separation is considered in both, but only for 2020 and beyond, and without the emphasis I believe it deserves. If a man was placed on the moon a mere 8 years after the goal was set, could we not achieve self-separation in 18 years (2025) if we really set our minds to it?You must go and see NLR’s GRACE simulation, it is very impressive.
