Cooking Lake/Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area - has 4 staging areas that act as trailheads within the 97 sq km of total trail network for hiking, cycling, equestrian, dog sledding, snowshoeing, skating, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing (100 km groomed trails, 60 km non-groomed). East of Edmonton there are endless natural areas for birdwatching and wildlife viewing. Parks, trails, lakes, rivers and wetlands are prime locations to see some of the 250 species of birds such as herons, pelicans, bald eagles, plus bears, bison, moose, elk, wolves and more!

Elk Island National Park - Visit Elk Island this summer and take in a round of golf at the 9-hole course, camp at the Sandy Beach Campground, attend the Park’s summer events, canoe around Astotin Lake, or sit back and enjoy a fun-filled interpretive program. 100 km of trails ranging from 300 metres to 16.5 kilometres can be used for bird and wildlife watching, hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.
