4. On the Edge The French artist Jean Dubuffet was inspired by the work of artists who, for various reasons, were seen to be on the edge of the mainstream art world. He labelled their work Art Brut. A more recent term for this is Outsider Art and work by artists such as Madge Gill, Chris Hipkiss and Albert Louden have featured in related exhibitions.
