ENROLLMENT FORMS Please remember to fill out the BLUE

enrollment forms. It is that time to fill out new

forms for the new program year starting in

September. If you don’t fill this out you are not a

registered 4-H member and won’t have early

camp sign-up privileges.

VOLUNTEERS If you have not filled out your volunteer

application, please check out the website below.

Background checks are required on all of the

volunteers that help with the Spencer County 4-H

Program. This is now available to be printed out from

the website. Go to www.spencerextension.com, click

on the 4-H Volunteer link on the right hand side of the

screen and print off your application today.

Please make sure that all forms are completed

and that we receive a copy of your driver’s license

when the form is turned in. If all the forms are not

completed when they are turned it, it will delay you

getting approved as a volunteer.

You can also pick up a hard copy at the

Extension Office. If you are interested in learning

more about volunteering with Spencer County 4-H,

please talk to Mollie or a club leader today!

will be held by the 4-H Council. Those dollars may be

COUNCIL MEETINGS The Spencer County 4-H Council will meet on

May 18th at 6:30 pm at the Spencer County Extension

Office. Anyone interested in being on the council,

making decisions about the county 4-H program, and

fundraising ideas please feel free to contact Bill

Dunning, Council President, or Mollie Tichenor for

additional information. Hope to see you there!

CAMP

4-H SUMMER CAMP It is that time of year again to look forward to

summer camp. We will camp at Lake Cumberland 4-

H Camp again the week of July 10th -14th. The cost for

camp is $195 this year and is open to those ages 9-13.

If you are interested, please fill out the camp

application that is included in this newsletter and that

way we can get you signed up for camp! Remember

spots are limited and are on a first come first serve

basis.

4-H members are getting the opportunity to sign

up first. Camp is going to open to non-4-H members

starting on April 17.

Calling all Teens and Adults – Volunteers are

required for our youth to go to camp….teens read

below, adults talk to Mollie today!

Teens: Teen applications are due April 21st by

4:30p.m. If you are interested in being a teen leader,

please pick up your application at the Extension Office

and they are included in this newsletter! Interviews

will be in May, letters will be mailed out to the teens

that apply for this. All Teen Leaders applying for

Camp are required to be an active 4-H member. There

is still a little bit of time to get involved in a Club, but

act fast! We would like to ask that you help with at

least one SOS Class or a Project Day. Please note,

that we would like all campers to get their 5th year

camper pins. We would like to encourage all 8th

graders to camp as campers to get to enjoy your

camping time to its full potential. Please contact

Mollie if you have any questions!

Also new for 2017, teen leaders will be required to

pay for camp. This will be determined by 4-H Council

at a later date. The University of Kentucky 4-H

Camping program changed the cost for the summer of

2016 and will continue in 2017. Teens do not pay

until there are accepted as Teen Leaders.

TEEN CONFERENCE

4-H State Teen Conference will be June 12-15,

2017 at the University of Kentucky. This is the state teen

leadership conference for 4-Her’s across Kentucky, who

have completed grades 8th – 12th. The cost is $250 and we

will be staying in the new dorms that are suites with a

private bathroom for every four people. The deadline to

register for our county is Tuesday, May 2nd. If you are

interested, please let Mollie know today so that you can

complete the paperwork.

4-H SCHOLARSHIPS

The Kentucky 4-H Foundation is excited to

announce its 2017 Scholarship Program. Through the

support of our sponsors the Foundation is again offering six

college scholarships including the James W. Kidwell

Memorial, Farm Credit Mid-America, and the Michael

Bandy/Ale-8-One Scholarships.

To be eligible to receive one of these scholarships

applicants must have been an active 4-H member for the last

two years, must graduate from high school in 2017, and also

be a resident of Kentucky. The deadline for scholarship

applications is Friday, May 12, 2017; the applications

MUST be postmarked by this date. All winners will be

recognized during the 4-H Teen Conference held June 12-

15, 2017. All three scholarships are included in this

newsletter.

We know there are many deserving Kentucky 4-

Her’s for each of these scholarships so we ask that you help

us get this information in their hands. The Foundation

would love to see a record number of applicants this

year! Through these scholarship opportunities we continue

to Help Kentucky 4-H Grow!

STATE 4-H BOARDS

Kentucky 4-H has amazing opportunities for

Senior 4-H members. There are four boards at the

State level for 4-H members to take on leadership

roles beyond the county level. Performing Arts

Troupe, Shooting Sports Board, Science, Engineering,

and Technology Board, new Health Board and the

Fashion Board are all currently taking applications.

Applications are due May 1st, so see Mollie

today if you are interested.

CLUB REPORTS

LIVESTOCK CLUB ATTENTION!!!!! If you are showing an animal

at State Fair, Youth Expos or District shows you will need

to have 6 hours of class time with the Certified Livestock

Club Leader, Connie Jeffiers, for 4-H or be an active FFA

member in order to compete in these shows. You will need

to have in all of these hours before the Spencer County Tag

In date which is May17, 2017. There will be no extra

meeting dates to get this time in. If you have any questions

regarding this please contact Connie Jeffiers 902-1421.

DAY The 2017 Spencer County 4-H

Communications Day was held Saturday, March 18th

at the Spencer County Extension Office. It was a very

successful morning filled with enjoyable

demonstrations, speeches, job interview, and a great

talent act in the Variety Show. The following 4-H

members participated and if they were awarded first

place they will be going on the will be going on the

Area Communications Day held on April 15th in

Oldham County.

TEEN SUMMIT

Colton Todd, Ethan Thompson, Luke Jeffiers,

Emily Truax, Valerie Pucko, and Lily Cook all

participated in the 4-H Teen Summit at the Kentucky

Leadership Center March 16th -18th. They all took full

advantage of the leadership classes that were offered.

Everyone had an amazing time! Liz Walker is on State

Teen Council and did a great job being a group leader

and leading leadership classes.

The 4-H Teen Summit provides young people

with essential leadership skills that can help them

mature into successful, community minded adults.

The Teen Summit is a Middle School age 4-H

leadership conference and 4-H Teen Conference is a

High School age leadership conference. Please

contact Mollie Tichenor at 477-2217 if you are

interested in learning more about these programs or

other opportunities through 4-H.

Store was held Wednesday, March 29th at the Spencer

County Middle School. Thank you to everyone that

Kentucky 4-H Foundation Scholarship Program

Farm Credit Mid-America Scholarship

Guidelines for the Farm Credit Mid-America Scholarships provided through the Kentucky 4-H Foundation

Four (4) $500 scholarships will be awarded with the following requirements:

1. Applicants must have a high school graduation date in 2017.

2. Applicant must be a full-time Kentucky resident.

3. Applicant must have been an active Kentucky 4-H member for at least the last 2 years (the

current year 2017 and last year 2016).

Application Process:

1. Applications available in all County Extension offices and on the Kentucky 4-H Foundation’s

website at www.kentucky4hfoundation.org

2. All applications must be postmarked by May 12, 2017, in order to be considered. Scholarship

winners will be announced and recognized during the Kentucky 4-H Teen Conference held on the

University of Kentucky campus June 12-15, 2017.

3. Each application shall be accompanied with the following information:

A. Completed Application with signatures of applicant, parent or guardian & agent.

B. Essay (Minimum of 200 words and a maximum of 400 words, double spaced) entitled

“The most valuable lessons I have learned from my 4-H experience.”

C. Two letters of recommendation, one from each of the following people:

i. County Extension Agent ii. Non-family member

D. Current High School Transcript or the equivalent

E. Recent color photograph of applicant (preferably head-and-shoulders portrait)

4. Selection process will be based on the following priorities in this order:

A. Top priority will be given to the level of 4-H involvement – evaluated by years of

membership, depth of program involvement, and level completed in the Kentucky 4-H

Achievement Program.

B. Financial need.

C. Academic achievement.

D. Applicant attending a post-secondary institution in Kentucky.

5. All applications will be reviewed by a selection committee and their decision is final.

6. To receive scholarship funds recipient will provide to the Kentucky 4-H Foundation proof of

enrollment to a post-secondary institution no later than May 31, 2018.

7. Scholarship will be awarded in a check made payable to the applicant, funds can be used for any

costs related to their post-secondary education.

Kentucky 4-H Foundation Scholarship Program

James W. Kidwell Memorial Scholarship

Guidelines for the James W. Kidwell Memorial Scholarship

One $1,500 scholarship will be awarded with the following requirements:

1. Applicants must have a high school graduation date in 2017.

2. Applicant must be a full-time Kentucky resident.

3. Applicant must have been an active Kentucky 4-H member for at least the last 2 years (the

current year 2017 and last year 2016).

4. Recipient must attend the University of Kentucky, be a full-time student (minimum 12 credit

hours), and plans to pursue a career in agriculture or related field.

Application Process:

1. Applications are available in all County Extension offices and on the Kentucky 4-H Foundation

website at www.kentucky4hfoundation.org

2. All applications must be postmarked by May 12, 2017, in order to be considered. Scholarship

winner will be recognized during the Kentucky 4-H Teen Conference held on the University of

Kentucky campus June 12-15, 2017.

3. Each application shall be accompanied with the following information:

a. Completed Application with signatures of applicant, parent or guardian & agent.

b. Essay (Minimum of 200 words and a maximum of 400 words, double spaced) entitled

“The most valuable lessons I have learned from my 4-H experience.”

c. Two letters of recommendation, one from each of the following people:

i. County Extension Agent

ii. Non-family member

d. Current High School Transcript or the equivalent.

e. Recent color photo of applicant (preferably head-and-shoulders portrait)

4. Selection process will be based on the following priorities in this order:

a. Priority will be given to applicants with plans to pursue a career in agriculture or in a

field related to agriculture and their financial need.

b. Followed by level of 4-H involvement – evaluated by years of membership, depth of

program participation, and level completed in the Kentucky 4-H Achievement Program.

5. All applications will be reviewed by a selection committee and their decision is final.

6. To receive scholarship funds recipient will provide to the Kentucky 4-H Foundation proof of

enrollment to the University of Kentucky no later than May 31, 2018.

7. Scholarship will be awarded in a check made payable to the applicant, funds can be used for any

costs related to post-secondary education.

Are you ready to experience one of the most fun weeks of your life? Do you

like to catch bugs, butterflies, crawdads or fish? Or learn new things such as

swimming, riflery, archery, canoeing, crafts, songs, playing games and dances? Do

you like to go for a hike and spend time identifying trees and critters you find

along the way? Do you like meeting new friends and having lots of fun?

IF SO, 4-H CAMP IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!

When: July 10-14, 2017

Location: Lake Cumberland 4-H Camp, Jabez, KY

Cost: $195

Camper ages are 9-14 (completion of 8th grade) and Teen Leaders Age15-18.

You must be 9 before July 10.

Camp slots are filled on a first come, first serve basis.

A $65.00 deposit must be received with the camp application in order to reserve your child’s

spot. The total for camp this year is $195. Make checks payable to Spencer County 4-H. The

second payment of $65 will be due May 1 and the final payment due June 1 of $65.
