TRY SOMETHING NEW

Be on the lookout for a new Theatre Arts workshop on Wed., September 21. Have you ever looked through a magazine, glancing at the pictures of people, when one grabs your attention? You are drawn in, and find yourself taking on that char-acter. You imagine what your life would be like if you were that person. Creating

Characters – Photos Come to Life, is just one of the work-shops we will be holding for our new theatre arts program. Email Nikki at [email protected] for more information.

4-H PLEDGE

I PLEDGE MY HEAD TO CLEARER THINKING, MY HEART TO GREATER LOYALTY, MY HANDS TO LARGER SERVICE,

AND MY HEALTH TO BETTER LIVING, FOR MY CLUB, MY COMMUNITY, MY COUNTRY, AND MY WORLD.

Record Books & Recognition SHOW OFF YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND CHARACTER

Record Keeping and Awards are completed and applied for at the end of the 4-H year. Our deadline for award applications and record completion recognition is September 15, 2016.

Many of you are deserving of the awards that are offered to 4-Hers who exemplify excellent leadership, citizenship, character, enthusiasm, and service. Please consider applying or asking your club leader to nominate you. All awards and record completion recognition will be given at our fall awards ceremony on Sunday, November 13, 2016.

There are 2 main categories where 4-Hers can receive awards.

Bronze, Silver, or Gold project record completion

Project record completion awards are not competitive. If you meet the requirements found on the “Project Record Completion Application” you will receive a bronze, silver, or gold; depending on which level you applied for. You must also submit your records related to that project. These records can be submitted in many forms: in a book with all your 4-H pro-

jects, in a binder (or other method of filing) related to just that project area, or a video or other electronic document.

Competitive Awards

These awards can only be won once during each age division of 4-H (Jr. 4-6th grade, Int. 7-8 grade, Sr. 9-12 grade or age category depending on the award). Some are judged exclusively on the applications. Some are judged on additional materials (your 4-H records, your school transcript, etc). The award selection is competitive and will be judged based on your application, record book, and any other supporting material the specific award asks for.

Leader nominated awards are due October 1st and include nomination awards for 4-Hers, awards for the club to win, nominations of outstanding volunteers.

All record keeping forms can be found on our website, www.extension.iastate.edu/hancock/4h_records_awards

Many of the forms are writable word documents. You are encouraged to type in the form and then save and print it.

For questions about the 4-H record keeping process or applying for awards please contact the Extension Office at 641-923-2856.

All award applications and record books are due to the Extension office by Thursday, September 15th.

New Season of Robotics

PLAY WITH LEGOS, PROGRAM ROBOTS

For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. FIRST is an organization that is way more than just robots. Here is a quote from Founder Dean Kane that tells you how much the kid’s future means to FIRST.

With the start of a new school year it is also the start of a new Robotics season. This year looks like it will be a good one. Our Jr FLL kids will be talking about Creature Craze. They will be studying a creature and its habitat and what challenge it faces in their habitat.

Get ready. Get set. Roar! Or you could bark, quack, or squeak, because the 2016 ANIMAL ALLIESSM season is all about our furry, feathered, and finned friends.

The FIRST Tech Challenge 2016-2017 season game will be our most incredible game yet. Mark your calendars for our September 10 Kickoff to find out what the challenge will be.

We have a club for all ages, call Nikki at Hancock County Extension 923-2856 to see what works for your child.

Being on County Council is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the 4-H program. You can learn life skills. You will be looked up to by younger 4-H members. It is an excellent addition to your resume and college applications. High school members must submit an application and complete an interview on October 16th. High school members have the option to compete for the executive committee within county council. 7-8th grader must submit an application. Both groups will meet approximately 8-10 times a year.
