FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

The more I look at the blessings that come to our parish community, the more I am amazed that God always seems to have a little more in store for us! Looking at the readings for this weekend and seeing the Gospel of the Good Shepherd, how can any of us be anything but mindful of how well the Lord protects and guides us.

Do you want to know how much He’s taking care of us and His Church? Well, let’s start with the 28 young people who were confirmed a few weeks ago. That’s followed up with the 37 children receiving their First Holy Communion during these next two Saturdays, a whole bunch of baptisms coming up, and the group of children and adults who were received into the Church during the Vigil.

On top of that, we’re still seeing miracles happening all around us—the continued recovery of some of our parishioners who have had seriously life-threatening experiences in recent months, but also those who have lit-erally “beaten” cancer in the last year and are getting clean bills of health from their doctors.

And then, there’s plenty of “happenings” in the world of vocations!

Our men in diaconal formation for our diocese—Joe Dion and Randy O’Neill—will be completing their stud-ies in the near future with an eye toward an ordination date in September.

Last Tuesday, we celebrated the nameday for Sister Athanasius as she enters into her sixth year of religious life. Sister Roxane Day was admitted to the novitiate for the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary and is doing well in Saskatchewan. But guess who joined her? Diane Dube will be with Sister Roxane for a few weeks for some time of renewal before pronouncing her vows in a private ceremony toward the end of June. So, we’ll have Sister Roxane and Sister Diane (or Sister Dee) embracing the consecrated life.

Now if this weren’t a lot happening, there’s even more good news!

We are so happy to announce that Elena Ainley will begin her postulancy at Saint Scholastica Priory in Peter-sham, MA this summer. Many of us know Elena as a lector, a sponsor in the RCIA process, a second-grade cate-chist in our religious education program, and choir member.

Elena will be entering a cloistered contemplative community of Benedictine nuns to begin an intense discern-ment period for living out this vocation. Additionally, Mother Mary Elizabeth, the prioress of the monastery, has granted permission for two Sisters to join with us on June 25th at the 10:30 a.m. Mass for Elena’s rite of sending and an opportunity to speak with us about their community. I hope many of our parishioners will join us for this Mass and sending as well as for a little reception sponsored by the Vocation Support Association in the par-ish hall. If you’ve ever wondered about that Vocation Rosary that we hand out every week—the above para-graphs should tell you that storming heaven brings about many results!

On that same day, our choir will be traveling to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Winchendon, MA to sing a concert at Father Michael’s parish. He’s been after us for the better part of this year to visit (and work!), and so the plan is to do a walk through the liturgical year through music. How appropriate that the choir will be singing some Advent and Christmas music—some six months to the day before Christmas! I know that Father Michael would welcome any of our parishioners who would like to make the trek over to Winchendon to join us for the program and a light reception afterward. Who knows? Perhaps we can even encourage the choir to sing a concert for us right here at home! We’re so spoiled to have them sing for Mass week after week, but maybe a full concert would be fun here too!

So now do you see what I mean about the Good Shepherd? He keeps encouraging us and guiding us to be about the work of God’s Kingdom. He feeds us with an abundance of graces and opportunities for growing in love for Him, and He tenderly and lovingly lifts us up when we have fallen. How? With new souls for the King-dom, by singing His praise, by calling so many from our community to a life of service in the Church. Yes, He does do His work well!

Until next week...God bless! Father Joe

MAY CROWNING

Our annual May Crowning will take place on Sunday, May 14th, following the 10:30 a.m. Mass. All children who have received their First Holy Communion this year are invited and encouraged to participate in the procession in their First Communion clothes. With this annual celebration, we offer the first flowers of the spring to Our Blessed Lady and celebrate her as “Queen of the Angels, Queen of the May.” While we’re talking about the May Crowning, we would like to invite all of the children of the parish to participate in our annual Corpus Christi procession which will take place on Sunday, June 18th (Father’s Day) after the 10:30 a.m. Mass. Please encourage your children to participate in this procession and to pass on those wonderful memories to them to continue into the future!

COFFEE AND DONUTS

Families, parish groups and min-istries are invited to host coffee and donuts following the 8:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays. The Knights of Columbus, Catholic Daughters, and the choir have helped us in the past. How about you? There are only about four more weeks left before we conclude for the summer, so plan to sign up to-day—or, if you’re daring, sign up for the fall! For more information, please contact Jennifer LeClair through the parish office. This is a great way to recruit for and encourage your ministry!

SAINT KATHRYN RELIGIOUS GOODS

We are “full scale” into the First Communion, Confir-mation, graduation, and wedding season! And there are some beautiful gifts available in all price ranges in our parish store. There are beautiful medals, rosaries, prayer books and books on the lives of the saints for children and young people receiving their first Holy Communion or Con-firmation; beautiful statues, Bibles, outdoor shrines, and crucifixes for couples starting a new home togeth-er; and all kinds of wonderful gifts for the new gradu-ate! Stop in and see what might say “congratulations and keep the faith!” The store hours are Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. And remember—if we don’t have what you want in stock, we can order pretty much anything and have it in a relatively short time!

MOMS’ GROUP

Are you a Catholic mother of smaller children (infants through toddlers) look-ing for support, encouragement, and

friendship with other Catholic moms? Do you want to surround your children in an atmosphere that pro-motes Catholic life and have the opportunity to share “mom wisdom” back and forth? Then perhaps you’d be interested in our Moms’ Group! They meet each Friday in Room 1 of the parish hall for play time with the children, chat with other adults, and spend some time praying the Rosary together. It’s a great oppor-tunity to meet, to share, to enjoy one another’s compa-ny—and the kids have a great time too! For more information, contact the parish office at 603.882.7793.

E-BULLETINS AND PARISH NEWS

Our parish has events every single day. From catech-esis to programs to updated information to changes in the schedule, there seems to always be something happening. Keep up to date by signing up for these updates. Go to our parish website and click the button that says “Sign up for Bulletins and News.” You will receive our bulletin electronically as well as the latest happenings in the parish. You can also sign up for parish happenings in the wooden box found on the table at the doors of the church. Don’t miss a single announcement about Saint Kathryn happenings!

JOSH KELLER BENEFIT

The Hudson Police Relief Association is hosting a spaghetti dinner to benefit Joshua Keller, a pa-rishioner of Saint Kathryn’s, who was unexpectedly shot in the neck by a negli-gent discharge. The dinner takes place on Friday, June 2 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at the VFW, 15 Bockes Road, Hudson, NH. $10 donation per person. Proceeds go to offset the medical costs incurred due to the accident as well as vehicle and home modification.

MEN OF SAINT JOSEPH

The Men of Saint Joseph will meet next Saturday, May 13th, from 7:00-8:30 a.m. in Room 1. Guys need support and encour-agement in their faith too, and this is a great opportunity to share the challenges of being a Catholic man today with other men who experience the same or similar challenges. With good Saint Joseph as a patron, what a great way to learn a little bit more about the Catholic faith, share the practical experiences of living that faith out, pray-ing together, laughing together, and concluding the meeting by celebrating Mass together with the parish!

FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

VETERANS’ VOICE CORNER

Mark your calendar for this all im-portant date, Saturday, May 27th, at 5:30 p.m. in the parish hall. The Veter-ans’ Organization at Saint Kathryn's welcomes Mr. Perry Plummer, Direc-

tor of the Department of Safety, Homeland Security and Emergency Management, NH, to speak to our parishioners on his role and mission statement dedi-cated to the well being of all of New Hampshire's citi-zens. The Department of Homeland Security, NH, in-teracts with all or parts of 22 state agencies working in tandem with Director Perry Plummer's department. The acronym of V.I.P. (Vigilance, Integrity, and Pre-paredness) assures us that we are in good hands. "National Homeland Security" entered the American lexicon in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York and Washington. Those devastating at-tacks, planned and executed by a foreign terrorist or-ganization, created the feeling that the United States was under attack and the American homeland needed to be better protected and secured. Come and be enlightened, and ask your questions on Homeland Security. This marks the first time Director Plummer speaks in a parish setting; another first for our Veterans’ Organization at Saint Kathryn's.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES CAMPAIGN

Have you picked up your envelope for New Hamp-shire Catholic Charities yet? There are plenty of envelopes and bro-chures detailing the good works of

Catholic Charities in the windowsills in the vestibule. These envelopes will only be available until May 30th, so please pick yours up today! This is a major collec-tion for our diocese as we continue the mission of Je-sus, offering healing and hope for so many who come to us in need. Please consider a one-time gift or pledge to New Hampshire Catholic Charities. They continue to be the hands, feet, eyes, and ears of Jesus among us, but can only do so with your help. Take an envelope and prayerfully consider how you might be able to partici-pate in bringing Christ to those who need Him the most! Thank you for your continued generosity.

FEED OUR KIDS PROGRAM

Thank you for your Lenten almsgiving this year. The final amount that we sent to the Food Pantry at Saint John’s was a staggering $7,000.00! Your generosity will help so many of the children and young people in the Hudson area who might have gone without any-thing to eat on weekends, holidays, and during school breaks. Thank you—and may God bless you for your generosity! We may not see them; we may not know who they are; but we are reaching out to them in love and in charity.

MOTHER’S DAY SPIRITUAL BOUQUET

Would you like to remember your mother, living or deceased, in a spiritual bouquet for Mother’s Day? If so, there are packets available near the shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa. Please take one, complete the form, and return it with your donation no later than May 12th.

EASTER HOLY WATER

Easter Holy Water can be taken from the baptismal font for your home. Simply bring a clean jar or bottle and take some water from the font. Bless your home; place it in a bowl or holy water font at your doors, and use it often. Don’t be afraid—we bless plenty of water during this season!

THANK YOU, CATECHISTS!

We want to thank all of our catechists who spent this year sharing the faith with the children and young people of our parish. Your love and enthusiasm for the faith is what instills that same faith in the hearts of our young people. We are grateful for your commit-ment and your love of God and our children.

MOTHER’S DAY FLOWERS

FOR BIRTHRIGHT

This year, we will again have carnations for all moth-ers, grandmothers, and godmothers to celebrate mother-hood. Any dona-tions for the carna-tions will be given to Birthright to sup-port the gift of life and to thank all those who have said “yes” to this beautiful gift.
