 Yudi lives in the centre of 

Santiago, the southern capital of Cuba. She doesn’t have any education except her poor knowledge of English language. 

She is 22 and she has worked as a prostitute since the age of 16. It is very common practice in Cuba and almost the only way to earn money. Yudi met 

both with the foreigners and with cuban guys, Now she has 2 children of 

different fathers none of which had shown up after the birth of the child. She lives alone with the kids in her small room. She feels desperately 

depressed and lonely, and deeply inside she is afraid to live.She has tried to 

start a new business-to sell lemonade from her tiny window, but soon she was caught by the police and was obliged to pay a big penalty for illegal commercial activity. Now she lives without money and has just a few friends who bring food and help to look after the children. Yudi also has a sister who still works as a prostitute and brings home some money. But Yudi herself doesn’t want to return to the street. She hates her past and dreams of beginning new life. She dreams to find her only prince and go with him to Cana

da or somewhere else.

Yarili

 Yarili lives in Havana, on  the 

street Cuba. She is 20 years old. She says that her boyfriend serves in the armed forces of Cuba and is going to 

return the next year,but actually he has left her forever, no matter that she has 

a child. She has finished only the secondary school and has never worked in her life. Her child of 2 months old has a serious disease of rupture. The operation is possible, and the medicine is free in 

Cuba, but there is needed a special medical care, which costs 10 dollars. 

Yarili doesn’t have such a sum of money, so she is waiting,,,may be for the 

miracle. She says that she’d like to earn money,but she doesn’t know how.

She has tried to work as a prostitute, but didn’t succeed in it. “I’m too fat, 

and nobody wants me”, she says.She lives with her sister, 22 years old. 

Her sister is much prettier thanherself, and much more intelligent too. But she is too lazy to work, so she tries to earn money going out with 

foreigners. Sometimes she brings money to this strange family, sometimes not. 

Both the sisters dream of getting married and living Cuba for another, more 

prosperous country.Russia suits them well.
